I am in the same boat I just got the alienware 13 r2 oled 2560 x 1440 i7 gtx 956m open box excellent certified at best buy for $755. The newer 13 oled is much better specs. Is it even worth to get the Aga I found one for $300 with a gtx 1070 on cg. I have 7 days to return laptop. Wonder if it's better to just put money towards a 13 r3 then don't need the AGA for a while hmm decisions

Here is my opinion of the R3:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...2-owners-lounge.770303/page-248#post-10378826

The R3 is the size and weight of a 'normal' 15" laptop. If you value portability and have the Graphics Amp at home, the R1/R2 AW13 is for you.
The 2 core U series CPU doesn't matter as much a people make it out to be.

I've owned both. The Aw 13 r3 is 1.5" longer (front to back). 0.24" thinner. And 0.1" wider, 1.3 lbs heavier though, but still easily manageable @ less than 6 lbs. It is about the size of a 14" laptop, not 15 (unless you include XPS 15 or Areo 15 which both have bezeless displays).

Just saying that 1.5" longer should not be a deciding factor here. It is essentially the same size for practical/ size class purposes. The AW 13 R2 is not more portable by all that much

There is a huge monumental difference in performance between the 2 core ULV processor and Quad core 45W processor on multi-threaded applications/games.

I am right there with you on that. I actually had a 13R3 for a little bit with the worlds worst screen (1366x768p) and it was so bad I had to return it. I did like that it was thinner but yup, it just felt so much bigger in day to day use. The dimensions of the 13 just feel right. The 965m is essentially a 1050 (non-ti) which is still pretty capable when away from the AGA. The processor will throttle the GTX 1080 but I play games that aren't too graphically intensive and I will still keep the 17r4 as basically a desktop anyway. Bear in mind that people continue to use the Razer Blade stealth and the Razer Core which would perform worse given the poor TB3 connection and less ventilation and cooling. I think I will hang on to this for a little while. For what I'm into it, I could probably flip it in 6 months and only take a minor hit.

Hell, if AW brought back the AW11 I'd preorder it on the announcement day.

Ok, you got me about the size, but why is it so heavy? I specifically got my AW13 to replace a 5.5lb Samsung 15" touch screen laptop that had a terrible keyboard. It was also heavy to take up and down many (many, many) stairs at a school building where I was taking a programming class. The 4.5 lb AW13 and neoprene case made a big difference. I also picked it over other 'ultrabooks' because it had a cable to a desktop GPU so I wouln't have to have two compter systems. The R3 was made with some desktop level HW to make it into the VR craze. The GTX1060 would make the graphics amp a pricey overkill option because it can game well on it's own. So why get a 13" screen on such a beefy system like the R3? The R2 especially is still relivant and a great deal now that everyone wants VR ready in laptops. (I'm not sure why.)

    Hello, I currently own an Alienware 13 R2, 2014.
    Specs are: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200 CPU @ 2.30GHz 2.40GHz , 4GB Installed RAM (DDR3) , 64 Bit-OS, x-64 processor

My question is, I want to add another RAM to the second empty slot, can I add 8gb next to it(make it 12 total), or does it have to be 4gb. Also does it matter if the new RAM is DDR3 or DDR3L ? Thanks for your help.

I thought that was more of a hardware problem than software.
The other stick can be of any capacity, but it's recommended that the RAM sticks have matching amount and speeds. So if you want to get an 8 GB stick, that's fine. It has to be DDR3L, though.

Hey guys, I'm using Alienware 13 r1 with 860m. I noticed that there are some bluescreens with IRQL not less or equal during PUBG gameplay. Can anyone have me with this ? Thanks.

Use throttlestop, the FIVR will give you access to the CPU voltage adjustment.

Using - (minus) value is undervolting.

Try core and cache -45mv first.

Tick unlock adjustable voltage and "save voltage on exit"

Ultra Low-Voltage CPUs generally don't Undervolt well since they have a lot less overhead.

That's not an unusual BSoD when you have an overly aggressive UV and the same one my 13 R3 threw when I pushed things too far in ThrottleStop. Luckily you're not going to damage anything by giving it too little voltage and it's an easy fix (just back off the Undervolt and give the CPU a little more juice).

That BSoD in particular is caused by the part of the Windows Kernel that controls system power, so it makes sense that it would get tossed when there's not enough voltage.

When I did not under volt it and play PUBG, I still get bluescreen.

That can also be caused by a bad driver so the next step would be to try updating all of those.

I think most of my driver carried by windows update, except for touch pad and intel gpu and nvidia gpu which i get from dell support site, do I need to get the latest driver directly ?
