So I'm thinking that this heat is now the battery issue. Seems to be on charging only.
What's the quickest way to get a replacement sent out?
Will live chat so it or do you have to ring up?
Cheers

Wow my Firestrike score is really really bad...Scored 6736. Running 3DMark Advanced Edition. Anyone know why my score isn't that good, and what that validation warning is about?? Ran it on battery power
Edit: Ah the Power Option wasn't on "High performance", I'll run the test againLast edited: Dec 30, 2016 -
The validation warning is just that its not recognising the gpu drivers.
I downloaded the latest from nvidias site and its been fine since (well my score dropped by around 500ish)
I'd double check your not in power saving mode. Gpu temp seems low for a benchmark.

Okay so stock settings with "High performance" selected in Power Options got me 9417 in Fire Strike. The max GPU temp was 86C

That seems about right for the 1060.
I managed 9700ish out of the box, don't know how. Can't get past 9400ish now.
Gpu temp is fine. After a repaste mine now never breaks 70. Definitely worth a thought.
But nothing wrong with your temp at all!

Does anyone have a teardown video or link for our 13's I need to repaste bad.

Credit goes to original reddit user for the below:
It's a simple process, just take your time with it. Took me half an hour first go as took my time to get a feel for the disassembly. Easy ten minute job next time.
5 screws to remove bottom cover
Unplug the battery
1 screw for wireless card (don't have to disconnect but I did since I was replacing with an Intel 8260)
1 screw for each solid state drive
Remove memory
Rear I/O cover: 2 screws and two clips, should slide off
14 screws to remove the base cover
Use spudger to help remove base cover
Unplug CPU/GPU fans
Remove the heatsink assembly screw in sequential order
Remove chunky paste using a spudger from heatsink
Remove the rest of the grease on GPU, CPU and heatsink with Q-Tips with Articlean
Apply paste
Follow these steps in reverse starting at 10

Battery wear hasn't settled down, fully drained and charged multiple time. Just keeps degrading.
New battery I think! Will have to contact Dell soon.
Need a screw for that 2nd ssd aswell.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk -
What program are you using to see the wear level?
-
https://www.hwinfo.com
Just run as is for an overview of your system.
Then I just run sensors only to check Temps etc.

Ouch so running Prime95 (Small FFT) and Fire Strike got my temps up there. Did an undervolt of -0.145V with Intel XTU. CPU performance mode makes the fans very audible even when idling, so I turned it off. Prime95 was running for 15 minutes and ran Fire Strike during it. Highest CPU core is at 88C, and GPU got up to 91C. My max core differential is 6C from what I see and it's between Core #0 and Core #1. Also I didn't think I would've been the one to mind fan noise....but honestly this thing is LOUD. I played Slime Rancher at 1920x1080 at highest settings and the fans were very loud the whole time I was playing. Haven't tested any other games yet, but will probably try out Overwatch soon. I don't use headphones so this is going to be a very interesting decision for me because I really like everything else about this computer.

The gpu temp is well within its limit.
But I would repaste to get temps down and mainly to get the fan noise down aswell.
It's a simple process really. Just common sense and take your time

Hi all, still waiting for mine to be delivered but in the mean time I'd like to ask those in the know. When repasting how much paste do you need to put on each chip, also what paste are you guys using and finally is there a guide to pasting and disassembly any where.
-
Just read the previous few pages or search within this thread for repaste.
All the info you need is in here. -
Definitely going to repaste with some Kryonaut. Question for the thread: I heard Kryonaut is aluminum based? Would it be okay to use Liquid Metal if I used Kryonaut, since LM doesnt do well with aluminum?
-
Do not use liquid metal!
It has been stated by Dell reps that this WILL void your warranty, as its a toxin resulting in Dell techs not being able to work on your machine.
Stick to ye old thermal paste

Edit. I'm currently using Noctua NT-H1 with great results.Last edited: Dec 30, 2016hmscott likes this. -
Well you don't need a massive storage for it. The less stuff you got I it the smaller the back up. But it doesn't back up size for size. I done a back up if a factory set up. 41gb it used on hard disk. The image was 21gb.

Ah OK. Thanks. Not cloned anything before so presumed it would copy the full drives size.
Cheers.
Just got off the phone to Dell tech.
They are very reluctant to send me a new battery, said he has to ask his manager regarding the battery issue and basically told me a lot of tosh about it.
Said I cant have one due to the motherboard needing removing, do they know nothing? Anyway said it's a drop in replacement and can be easily fitted.
Just awaiting a call back sometime.

Wasn't expecting much without die shrink
More importantly is the thermal performance, and power consumption with this iteration of silicon. Can't wait to see some comparisons -
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
Liquid metal is fine
The Dell Techs don't know the difference between a philips and flathead screwdriver...
Don't tell them and they will not really know... or care. And the tech will be safe from toxin, as they are required to wear gloves, and are hopefully smart enough to not be licking off the thermal paste
Also, cleaning off the liquid metal paste yourself before sending it in is completely fine
Also, if in doubt, get the $75 "Accidental Damage" warranty... nothing voids thatRairch likes this. -
Haha. Fair shout.
Just myself will use regular paste, then when out of warranty chuck some LM in.

I was also on to Dell last week re the battery. Wear was at 9% and afterwards went down to 14% wear last week and has bounced back a bit and has been 11% for 3 days or so. But is certainly getting no better aftern mubers of cycles but in any event theres no way I'm standing for buying a product advertised with a 76mWh but really it came with 72mWh and after a week and a half is about 66mWh.
According to Chat if I replaced the battery it it'd invalidate my warranty......really........???
I had liitle time last week to push the issue as I had work to go to but am going to try properly next week.
Reading between the lines and various forums I'm pretty sure there is a large batch of bad batteries floating around and this will cost Dell a considerable sum to put right if everyone with a bad battery was as bothered about it as I am and required a replacement.
Any advice how to get Dell to send me a replacement or send a tech to replace it at home would be appreciated!!! All new AWs come with premium support with onsite assistance....Rairch likes this. -
Seems the Dell texhs are reluctant to admit to the battery issue.
Strange though, because I have been told multiple time when chasing my order they are well aware of the issues..... Hmmm.....
Exactly, premium 1yr on site support.
Defective battery = replacement

Anyone playing titanfall 2?
Wife bought it me for xmas and weirdly it will only play at a max 720p!
Native 720p cannot change it, have reinstalled etc. Strange

No, not true at all. Only if you used a non Dell battery
My experience with chat is, if they don't know the answer, they will make something up.simonkee51 likes this. -

Try changing the aspect ratio. Fallout 4 would not let me change resolution unless I changed the aspect ratio -
I just received an BSOD or a YSOD: Video scheduler internal error. Anybody know what this is? Occured while playing overwatch.
-
disable vsync
check xbox app not running
adaptive resolution fps target should be higher than 60 or disabled -
That is unchangeable aswell.

I'll try vsync now. Thanks.

I communicated with AW Tech Support directly over emails.
Basically explained the situation with the initial wear level being down by 5% when I received the system and that it was continuously loosing its holding capability with every other discharge cycle.
Provided some screen shots of HWinfo and received the following message:
"I have checked with the Upper Management and they approved the battery replacement, so I will be sending an Onsite Tech to have the Battery replaced to your home."
I initially refused to let them service the system and asked whether I can do it myself instead, but was denied in my request having the battery sent directly to me, as its marked by Dell as "not suitable for user self-servicing / replacement". I explained that I am more than capable of doing so, but they wouldn't
So I waited for him to call in.
The guy: .. "Hello, I have your battery and can replace it today".
Me: " Hello, thank you. But we have a problem .. I have a pit-bull, and going through apartment renovation process and currently have no doors. So, locking him in won't work".
The guy: "Oh ... a pit-bull ? ......Ammm ....a pit-bull"
Me: "Yeah ..a pit-bull. So, lets do this - I'll meet you downstairs, give you my old battery, you give me the new one, sign off and we are square"
The guy: "Perfect !"
p.s.... I have a catsimonkee51 and Rairch like this. -
Haha, that's one way to do it.
If I get it approved myself I'll just have the system open and ready. He can put the battery in and I'll close her up.

Just tried all of this, nothing unfortunately.
I wonder if the windows scaling is having an effect on anything? Seems strange to go natively to 720p?

Definitely ! It sporadically happens when the Battery Saver and/or Power Save modes are activatedRairch likes this. -
Strange that.
I was only getting it when switching to power saver mode.
Now its all the time, high performance mode.
Fek knows.
Think the titanfall issue could be origin being crap.
In nvidia control panel, origin is set to integrated graphics. This cannot be changed to high performance. It's greyed out.
Possibly why its limiting to 720p?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk -
-
Definitely not running.
Plays well, just 720.........
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk -
OK so I think I may have sorted it.
I had to disable the integrated graphics.
(Origin was definitely using this)
Edit the videoconfig file as below to the resolution of the screen.
(but now can't change it from 2560x1440)
Seems to have done the trick.
Might change the config file to 1920x1080.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using TapatalkXenrail and ThatOldGuy like this. -
Nice one, Digital. I will try something similair and probably do a repaste at the same time (although I'm not experiencing thermal issues I might as well).
Was your new battery ok? -
Scrap that, doesn't work.
Disabling the integrated graphics somehow disconnects the display from the nvidia gpu.
How this optimus is crap.
Just let me use the 1060 for all applications. Not fussed about battery when actually plugged in.
Have to think of something else.
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk -
Civ 6 was doing strange things with the video settings on mine. I couldnt change the resolution at all and it would only play in "borderless window" mode. If I changed it to fullscreen in the program it would just change back to borderless window. My fix was also to edit the config file to force it to fullscreen and 1080p. Occasionally it starts in a tiny 1080p window in the top left corner but thats fixed by restarting. Annoying but oh well.
-
or run titanfall with the nvidia gpu, you can select this through the nvcp
-
Already set but I think origin overrides it
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk -
Got it working by actually changing the desktop resolution to 1080 and setting the config to 1080.
Worked like a charm.
Everything maxed out, looks amazing. Good gameplay too actually, never played the first one. Pretty good.

Ah, totally forgot steam now plays with the ps4 controller natively.
Might try it out on a few titles.

How does it look on 1080p(gaming)? Does it look stretched out like 900p?
