This worries me. Can any other R2 owners comment on this? Perhaps this is a new rev of the panel but with worse specs?

The review Splashy posted is the same one from earlier. I should have my 15r2 by the end of next week(as long as it doesnt get delayed.) I don't have any of the tools to get professional readings but I do have a 250 nit monitor to compare it to.

I'm debating whether or not to cancel my order before it ships. Color accuracy is somewhat important to me and 60%ish srgb is not very good. I've been looking at a refurbed Dell M4800 for $950 as an alternative (Much less powerful GPU [firepro m5100], but I have a gaming desktop anyway)

    Edit:

Well, I just cancelled my order. Even though the display in the R1 and R2 share the same model number, there's something fishy going on - the R1, as advertised by dell and reviewed by notebookreview, has a brightness of around 290-300 nits. The R2's display *as advertised by Dell,* has a brightness of only 220 nits. Something about the display has changed - possibly a different rev with lower quality (cheaper) components?

I wouldn't count on the advertised specs too much, but yea, it is fishy. Anyway, it's not like it is a deal - just the regular price

Thanks for sharing the new review link.
The new I5 6300HQ improves the laptop and makes it more competitive to the other laptops.
4C/4T is very good, you dont necessarily need 8T (the desktop I5 also have 4C/4T, and they were always the best option for good performance and acceptable price).
Lets see if other reviews also metion a dissappointing display.
But summed up, the new AW15 seems like a very good update.

I used Macrium Reflect to clone my 128GB m.2 SSD to my new 500GB m.2 SSD drive in my AW 15 R1 and clone my wife's 1TB HDD to 500GB SSD drive for her Sony. It's free and works fine.

    Man, I'm really nervous haha
My 15 with UHD screen is still in pre production and I'm really hoping that the screen is better than the FHD. If it's mediocre, I don't know which other laptop to get... I'm looking forward to hearing your impressions.

    thanks for splashy

It looks like there is an issue with my router/modem or comcast did something special to me. the normal web surf is ok. just gaming or high speed download may course connection drop somehow.
Is there an easy way to calib the screen, I do not want to spend ~$200 to buy some special tools? by the way, for intel 6xxx cpu ,you need to upgrade bios to play some old game, due to intel/windows 10 security module issue.

I just checked my order alienware 15 R2 FHD screen and it says estimated 10/21/15 (updated)! But still says in productions....maybe just not updated yet. I also ordered on 10/15/15

Well, in my case, simply looking at a big red/green rectangle in paint shows how it lacks. Red looks a little washed

Not sure how much will it help to calibrate it, but anyway, we could wait for someone with tools

maybe it's 21/10 shipped? or delivered?

It took Dell until this morning to actually send me the email that they shipped it. You might be able to look on fedex with your order number, I believe somebody did that and found it before it showed shipped on Dell's site.

Yesterday, because of the FHD screen thing, I bought an R1 on ebay with a 4710MQ(HQ?) and 970m, plus a 500gb SSD. It cost me $150 less than a brand new R2 with a 965m. It looked like the seller has taken good care of it, and it still has six months of warranty left. I can't wait to get it.

You would think dell would pay attention to this stuff, they are losing money because of the screen saving maybe $20 by not offering the one with better color gamut....that is the whole reason people buy IPS over TN screens. There pulling the sheeps wool over our eyes by not disclosing this information during purchase, once I recieve my new 15 R2 and if I find the color severely lacking I will be requesting a replacement screen from the R1.

Ok. I will also be testing the powerdraw of the 180watt power supply with power meter I just got to see if a bit of OC on the video card puts it past its limits.

I just bought the P3 P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor off of Amazon it seems pretty accurate so far on the devices I plugged it into. It gives you real time wattage usage and can read up to 1800 watt devices I believe.

So I finally got my laptop last night. First impressions are good so far, I do not really see any issues with my screen its plenty bright for me and easily as bright as the 250 nit monitor I compared it to.
Monitor Name: SAMSUNG [Unknown Model: SDC4C48]
    Monitor Name (Manuf): 156HL [DELL P/N: 4NDDJ]
Otherwise I am still trying to get used to it as this is the first time I've actually had time to really use it other than booting it up last night. I do really love the way the keyboard feels and the AlienFX is pretty cool. I'll try and download some games off steam sometime this weekend if I get a chance.

Do the colors look good? If you do a red frame in paint, does it look red indeed, let's say, compared to your smartphone (if you have one) or desktop screen (given it's a good IPS)

Yay, just ordered my Alienware 15!
    Here are the specs:

    IGZO UHD
    i7 6700HQ
    128 GB M.2 SSD + 1 TB 7200 rpm
    GTX 970M
    16 GB DDR4

With 1 Yr premium warranty the total was just under $1.8k, hope this was a good deal.
Only downside though, is the long wait. EDD is 7/12. :( Looks like I'm in it for the long haul.

So I just got my new AW 15 R2 also and it shows the same display name as epic ninja reported. The screen looks good but when I compare the colors to my HTC one M7 smartphone they do look washed out on the AW 15 R2 display. I also have to turn brightness to max and can see it being a problem in a sunny well lit area. Not comparing it to anything else it looks good by itself and can get used to it.,

That doesn't come as a surprise. I ordered the same configuration as you did, except for the fact that I went for better SSD but lesser RAM compared to your system (256GB PCIe + 8GB Dual channel which I plan to upgrade later). I placed my order exactly 11 days back and my EDD is 25th of November, mainly due to the 4K display panel. Had I chosen the FHD model that day, my EDD would've been 30th of October.

    This is the FHD right?

Has yours moved out of 'Order Processing'? I had a chat with the sales rep and she was quite positive the laptop would ship out much before the EDD. She said there were no component availability issues right now, and that she'd call me if any such issue came up.

Yes. I meant to ask if it was out of Pre-production.
Mine moved into pre-production from order processing a few hours ago.

EDIT: Is there anyone at all who has received an Alienware with the new UHD IGZO screen? I've been searching the net to get a glimpse of it but in vain.

Tip: Sales Representatives don't know much about your order. Their job is to place orders and answer basic queries, mostly. All they do is check your order status, which you could do yourself as well, quite easily. They ought to make promises to keep the customers. So if you really want to be optimistic about your order, talk to the Customer Care. They'll tell you exactly what's going on, with the parts, delays, and all.

This is not the same screen as what we would be getting.
This is the glossy non-IGZO version whereas we are waiting for the anti-glare IGZO one. And there's not a single review on the entire internet about that screen.

@epic_ninja420 and anyone else with the FHD AW 15 R2. Is it possible for anyone to post a picture of there AW 15 R2 screen next to a smart phone or another IPS display both on the same colorful background as each other?

I found this image on the AW 15 R2 product page reviews and this is EXACTLY what my screen looks like with the washed out colors compared to the monitor. My brightness also sucks running at maximum all the time to have good image in just a artificially lit room.
    myscreensucks.jpg

This is an image of my actual panel compared to a dell U2412M IPS monitor (300 nit, sRGB 96%, 75% adobe RGB) As you can see my laptop screen looks no where near 220 nit. The colors in the photo look much different in person. Particularly the green is much more vibrant on the u2412m.

Yea that is pretty noticeable. Can you email me that background?(Jagsfan84(gmail) I have a galaxy s6 I can compare it to, but I dont really have a way to take a pic. I'll see if I can borrow another phone to take a pic with.

Its hard to judge from photos made by a photo camera. the dynamic range is compressed based on the exposure settings and the post processing might alter it even more.
