This wants to make me cry. I was just hoping that the first impression of the screen be good.
I don't care so much for minor variations in color gamut, but at least on first look it should look like a quality screen.
Can you please try calibrating the color? The yellow-ness is not a big issue, you can change the color temperature.
Of course, you should get the screen replaced due to the bright pixel, but otherwise please let us know if the calibration makes it better.
-
Man that sucks. You got a bad screen, mine looks pretty good. There is a little light bleed that I notice on boot up, but I forget about it after that.
Also no problems with HTML5 stuff. Sounds like your computer was mishandled in shipping. Send that thing back and demand a new one, its ridiculous that one has to get a new laptop fixed because of bad QC or Delivery.
Living in Austin and knowing some people that work at Dell, specifically one of the logistics managers, Dells biggest problem is how stuff is handled in shipping once it gets to the US.struggles likes this. -
Can you please take a picture of your screen and post it?
If possible in comparison with some other screen in your house. -
Stuck pixels are often not a big issue - do some quick searching in Google for ways to get them "unstuck" before returning it. A dead pixel (black) is a real issue, a stuck is not and very easily explains why QC didn't see it.

I'm getting my R2 with UHD screen today. Should be interesting......

New UHD Screen
Old HP screen that I've been using since my Lenovo t400 died this summer.
1080p TV that I use for a monitor
I haven't touched any settings and I have the brightness all the way up on both computers. I really like the UHD screen. It's not as bright as my old Lenvo T400 that had 400 nits, but I'll survive. I will miss it as I work on supply boats and it was nice to be able to see the screen while wearing sunglasses when I was in the wheel house.T2050, Mr.Claw, Tony V and 1 other person like this. -
I know there were some questions
Are you happy with your 15 r2 UHD as a whole, any issues? -
Im sorry to hear you got such a bad screen that looks terrible, the screen bleed looks similar to my 15 R2 with FHD but its in the lower right corner. Also that white spot is huge for a 4k screen like previously stated, I would have dell tech support come out and replace it, im glad I didnt spend the extra money to upgrade to UHD if that is the screen I would have gotten, you may just have got a bad apple. The intel HD driver crash is caused by old drivers I believe and you need to go to intel website to download latest windows 10 driver for HD 530. I would recommend a clean install of both nvidia and intel drivers, and uninstall with DDU utility in safe mode. Then install intel driver FIRST followed by nvidia.
-
Didn't know that. @Mr. Cuddles can try fixing the hot pixels and report back if possible.
From the picture that screen looks excellent. Looks extremely sharp, colors are bright, and gamut is way way better than either of your other screens..
Thanks for the pics dude.

after playing dota2 for an hour my fps drops to 40-50 in game from 90-100. i checked xtu and no throttling on cpu/gpu. i also made a custom fan profile on hwinfo better than the custom to avoid overheating/throttling issues. anyone else experiencing this? dont know if its a problem with the new client(reborn) or my system.
-
Hey, could you do me a favor and open the pictures that I uploaded that show the yellow tint on the screen and take a picture of that?
If I look at my own pics on my AW screen It doesn't show the color difference between yellow and white. They all look the same.
Thanks
By the way, I contacted Dell but haven't heard back from them yet (probably too early). -
No point emailing, you would have to call them to get tech support.
Btw did you try fixing the hot pixel cluster? -
Okay ,I'll give them a call. Which department do I have to call? Returns, Orders or Technic?
I tried fixing the pixel/pixels. 30 minutes later I stopped it was still there. -
Call the appropriate number from this page (Home/ Member Program):
https://www.dell.com/support/conten...stomer-Support/customer-support-phone-numbers
Say "technical support", then be ready with your service tag.
I managed to speak to a human being in Dell yesterday after being on hold for more than an hour, but that was for regular customer care.
Hopefully for tech support it will be faster.
EDIT: Pro tip - Use a spare phone to dial and leave it on speaker phone in the background while the hold music plays, and go about doing your other work. -
Your UHD screen look great. I cant see any bleed, yellow, and the colors are excellent.

When am browsing on the 15 R2, it sometimes freezes over and then I get a message saying the display driver crashed.I am a lil worried as this happens everytime I use the laptop. Does anyone know what could be the reason?
-
It's a known Windows 10 issue. It used to happen on my Dell XPS as well.
Went away after I upgraded the Intel graphics drivers.Srin12 likes this. -
Thank you. I also came across a few other issues, but dont think they could be anything big. If anyone does know or have faced this in the past, please shed some light on it. Thanks.
1. The left fan and then the right one reach max rpm one after the other without any reason when am browsing and they stop all by themselves. I dont know if that was a dignostic running in the bckg, but they were not running together, and stopped after a few seconds.
2. The Nvidia driver updates and Windows 10 updates get downloaded but donot get installed when restarted quoting some issue. And then download all over agin and dont install on restart. This keeps occuring.
Has anyone else come across the same issue? -
So far I'm very happy with my R2. Screen looks great and fans seem to ramp up when they should. Just played Fallout 4 for an hour and it ran great. I had quality set to high and never left 60 fps so I'm going to see how much higher I can push it. So far I couldn't be happier

Hi all.
Am new here. Need a little help. Can some one direct me to a thread or post that discusses the missing HDD in Alienware 15.
I have the samsung sdd 256 gb + 1 tb wd 5,400 hdd. I partitioned it so tht sdd is drive c, and the hdd is drive d.
But now windows dont show drive d at all. Tried restore, succeeded once, but then reoccurred. Subsequent restores failed.
Ran pre boot dell diag, the hdd is there, so test results were fine. But stil missing in windows.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks -

I have a question for all of you new R2 owners that have a FHD screen.
The FHD screens in the R1 and R2 are 6-bit LCD panels, which means that in order to display all the colors in the sRGB colorspace, sometimes dithering is needed.
Now, with the R1 and Intel Haswell, static dithering is used. If you look at the dark grey background of the steam login window, you can see a fixed, regular pattern of differently "colored" grey pixels that are used to create the shade of grey needed for that window. A banding effect is also visible in the gradients of this page: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gradient.php. This dithering effect is usually only visible with static images, especially when there is a color gradient in the image.
So my question is, with Intel Skylake, is this static dithering still used? Or, does Skylake use the flicker-style (temporal) dithering that is a lot less apparent? -
6700HQ
8GB RAM
GTX980
UHD screen
All stock drivers and BIOS
Everything at stock clocks
I now play Fallout 4 on Ultra @ 1080. Its normally at 60fps but at times dips down to 40's -
Thanks Mr. Claw for the link.
But i culdnt find anything tht discusses the problem of mine.
Just last nite, drive d (1TB) popped up, so i quickly saved everything in there to an external. Then I dared to restart the damn thing, went on, and drive d is gone again.
Is returning to factory image the only option here? Or there is an update for windows 7 to address this?
Thanks before -
Hey, has anyone figured out how to disable the annoying dynamic contrast/brightness thing?**
So far I have:
1) Disabled adaptive brightness in control panel/power settings
2) Set Intel Display Properties to "performance" for both AC and battery
3) Tried uninstalling and reinstalling both Dell drivers as well as trying generic intel/nvidia ones
And still with dark screens in web browsing, movie watching or gaming, the brightness gets lowered automatically. If I reinstall drivers it will work fine until Windows 10 automatically downloads some update which brings the problem back.
(this only happens in Windows 10, not in Linux, so it has something to do with the drivers)
**FIXED, sort of. It looks like this is a problem with bios version A00, and not with the latest A06. So it's a choice between cooler temps and horrible dynamic contrast/brightness

any update on your yellow screen? i also have same issue on my AW 13 r2...
called dell support and they are coming down to change LCD panel... but they insist that LCD panels they use is slightly yellow... so they want to try changing the panel first if it will resolve issue ... i want them to change it for a new set .. because it is less than a week old set .... they say they will change whole unit if proven the panel is the issue.... they will replace panel first for testing purpose.... -
I have to send in my laptop. I'm living in Alaska so they probably don't have someone around here that could fix my screen ^^

Anyone here having problems with Cod black ops 3 running on their laptop?
my game just crashes randomly, without any errors.. just closes down
965m with latest drivers -
I'm not having any issues with Black Ops 3 TBH. It's running GREAT!! I have just bought the Alienware 15 R2 / 6700HQ / gtx970m , last friday November 13th 2015.
So far I am VERY HAPPY with my laptop and how it's running. I'm still on bios A00 .. I was reading about the different bios versions and the problems and decided to stay on A00. With the way it came and me not changing anything at all, gaming has been great and temps on mine are very good.
Black Ops 3 / running almost maxed settings @ 1080p. SMAA x1
Cpu temps are 75c-83c coolest to hottest cores. Gpu only hits 69c. This is with me not changing anything at all, and playing many hours of multiplayer online. Started to look if there was a way to lower my temps some even tho they are good. Read lots, bios updates, fan profiles, this and that, blah blah blah LOL.
Staying on A00 is my choice for now. using latest version (not beta) of HWinfo64. Disable EC sensor in options and SMI is checked. This allows for fan control now.
Testing went as below
HWinfo64 set to Cpu 2500 / Gpu 2300
Idle temps : Cpu 25c / Gpu 30c
Black Ops 3 : Cpu 71c / Gpu 58c
Coolermaster Laptop cooler with 160mm fan is on and laptop sitting on it. With the fans set at 2500/2300 and the laptop cooler running, you can't hear the fans in the laptop at all. This is perfect for me as I'm getting GREAT temps in hours of gaming and also staying very quiet. Can't hear fans over the game volume just out of the laptop. PERFECT.
Hope this helps anyone with questions and what to try maybe. My AW15R2 might have a really good thermal paste job done from the factory. No need from my temp testing to redo the thermal paste myself, yet. Temps at 71c/58c are unbelievable for a Gaming Laptop IMHO. No need to mess with that over hear.
I'll be watching out for new bios versions and hope for a fix soon. Also having a custom fan APP in ACC would be amazing and a GREAT idea Dell. For how much we spend on these laptops, that should be the very next thing any of you techs at Dell should be working on. I'm very happy with my AW15R2 that I might only buy these gaming laptops from now on and use them for all my gaming with being able to drop a Titan X into the Amplifier and use that at home, and use my gtx970m on the go. Please fix the fan issues and give us some type of fan control via ACC app in windows or via Bios update and some type of controll. Even just being able to set a certain % as in 60% or 65% fan speed would be great. Let us decide where we accept the fan noise / performance ratio and we would all be very happy.

All of those other BIOS versions are for the non Skylake versions. I have the same setup as you and have the brand new A03 BIOS and its been fine, plus it allows us to upgrade the ram and NVME SSD drives. I'd check it out if I was you.

What's the clockspeed of the 970M on the 15?
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk -
Annnnnd it's back again, even with BIOS A06. This is really disappointing. I really don't like auto adjusting contrast (it makes photo work impossible and make some games really annoying to play), so I might sell this machine because of this issue.

Have you disabled "Power Saving Technology" from here?
-
Yes, I've disabled all of the power saving options and the problem persists. This is with both battery and AC power. In the "Plugged In" tab of this same application, all I have is the "Graphics Power Plans" section.

Try one thing:
Disable Sensor Monitoring Service (SensrSvc) from the Services Manager or services.msc. See if that works. If it does, let's try and find a slightly less powerful workaround as this will probably disable all the laptop's sensors. -
SnsrSvc is already disabled, unfortunately :/ The laptop came to me that way, I haven't changed the start condition for it.
-
I had this as well. you can disable automatic updating drivers for some devices in the device manager panel if you select the hardware that you dont want to be automatically updated. I had the same issue. So I installed the drivers from the dell site. Turned it off etc. It still happened but then I noticed I had to reconnect the powersupply and it worked fine after. Never returned.

thanks man, i am getting it shipped to dubai from us

Ok.. What shipping service are you using?

my laptop guy says fedex, actually it would be first shipped to a us adress and then a friend will ship it to dubai, and a friend of my laptop guy will handcarry it

When you say "upgrade our ram" , what do you mean exactly? My 15 R2 came with the 256gb PCI-e SSD + 1tb 7200rpm Hard drive setup, and also came with 16gb of DDR4 2133mhz Ram. I thought I read that 16gb was the max it could take, but are you saying that we can go to 32gb with the A03 Bios?
Also, since you are on the A03 bios, can you share what the max Cpu temps are you get and also the max Gpu temps you get when under load in games or benchmarks? I would appreciate it greatly bud. With the A00 bios I'm getting max core temp of the hottest core 85c and lowest is 75c, and other 2 are in between, so avg is 80c. And my Gtx970m only hits 67-69c max no matter what I'm doing, games or benchmarks. That's pretty darn good IMO. All other gaming laptops I've used hit mid 80's and up for the gpu and cpu. My Asus GL551 that I returned to get this one, the cpu was hitting 93c and gpu 85c. Way hotter than I liked and I couldn't get any control over the fans for some reason, even using HWinfo64.
Thanks for the input and reply bud!!

So I FINALLY have my laptop in my hands after I got it shipped halfway across the world.
First impressions:
- For all the talks of the Alienware being a humongous monstrosity, what a pleasant surprise it was to see that this laptop is in fact slightly more compact than my previous one...
- Dell XPS 15 - The UHD IGZO is simply brilliant. Love it. Except that 720p and 1080p quality vids now look pretty bad.
- Sound quality is much, much better than I expected! My old XPS 15 is a 2.1 JBL system and this one still manages to sound better.
- Windows 10 scaling sucks. Text is very fuzzy in a lot of places such as device manager. Managed to slightly improve it by configuring ClearType. If anyone knows a workaround, please let me know.
- I really miss the circular scrolling
Trying to find a way to bring it back. - Keyboard is extremely good, typing is a breeze. But yet to get used to the placement of the keys. I guess it should take me a couple of weeks to get used to it.
- Touchpad, again, is better than I expected considering the crap that is available in today's market. But the one of the XPS still rules the roost.

My system is sitting at Dell and is on hold. The reason - missing part(s) ugh.
