I found this article http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN299559 apparently the promo didnt start until Oct 16 what a crock. I am still going to call tech support because this promo has been going on since the 6 OCT elsewhere

I talk to Dell and they said they will send technician to replaced the USB port in my laptop . I am really interested to see if they really can fix it. base of my experience it is small possibility that will fix the issue .
-
I installed HW Monitor, the keyboard and hand rest areas get very warm during normal use. Weird thing is HW Monitor says my CPU is an i5. Also I can hear the fans roaring when I start Dirt 3 via Steam. I want to know if this is normal.
can someone throw some light on this @judal57 , @epic_ninja420Last edited: Nov 5, 2015 -
replace the USB ? hahaha they are going to change the entire motherboard and no, i dont think the "problem" is going to be fixed. i have 3 ports more :S i dont care about that.
i use this port to connect the Usb receiver for my logitech G602.
from my experience, the technicians of Dell dont have any idea of what are you talking about hahaha that is why they always change everything before trying to fix the problem, maybe this is a driver problem, only one each 99 have an idea.
you know that i have the same speed as you, so this is not a hardware problem. -
Wow, my order just jumped into production! I ordered an AW 15 with UHD screen on 10/05. EDD is 11/16.I am located in the US.

Woohoo!! Mine is in production too!
I ordered on 24/10, EDD 7/12. Might get it much sooner than that if lady luck smiles.
EDIT: How much time do these babies typically spend 'in production'?Last edited: Nov 5, 2015 -
Most of the time around 3 or 4 days.

Mine went into production too! My eta is 12-4

Good point Driver well the web site dose not have any driver for windows 10. the tech that did the remote access to my computer couldn't find driver for USB and when I asked him why dell didn't provide driver he said because Microsoft driver work perfect and Dell didn't see necessity of having separate driver the default driver work perfectly.
Updating: i like to let you know that after replacing the motherboard all of my USB functional
all Of them are 300 MB/s speed and power sharing port recognize my phone and have 300 MB/s transfer rate speed !!
I am so happy couldn't believe that will solve the problem but it did.

I installed Dirt 3 via Steam on my Alienware (Specs in Signature) which I received yesterday. While gaming I noticed that the fan sound became very audible which was not even heard on normal use such as Web browsing. Also HW Monitor showed the Core temps to be a max of 78 degrees. And the GPU temps to be a Max of 76 degrees.
I assumed that the temps would be around the 70 degree range while gaming. And also since the Skylake processors are said to run much cooler, this was a surprise to me. Can anyone else post their temps while gaming as well? Also as mentioned in my earlier post HWMonitor strangely shows my CPU is i5 whereas the device manager shows that it is an i7. I know that the device manager could be the more accurate of the two. But still curious as to this behaviour!Last edited: Nov 5, 2015 -
From what I've noticed yes. At idle mine sits around 53C and watching streaming videos with it in my lap it ran up to 72C. I havent had a chance to game on it yet but I'd imagine it will be similar.
-
What about the fan sound? The keyboard gets very warm too. But I guess that has been every Alienware user's experience so far while gaming .
-
its audible, honestly nothing that I didnt expect. Still not as loud as the fans on my PS4.
-
I guess thats fine then. Did you try HWMonitor on your system yet (As mentioned in my previous post)?
-
ive got HWinfo on mine.
-
Does it show the CPU as an i7 correctly? Coz mine shows an i5. But the Device manager shows it as an i7!
-
HWinfo shows it as 6700HQ i7 skylake. Might want to update that program, it looks like there was a new update for skylake.Srin12 likes this.

Anyone know if a 4k LCD panel can be installed in an R1 that originally came with a 1080p panel? The 1080p panel is fine for now but I can totally see myself wanting to upgrade it in the future, if it is possible..

Same here .. 15 R2 in production. UHD - US
And EDD is 11th November. No idea whether it would come next week or not.

Any updates? Does it say 'shipped' yet?

Unfortunately not. I was hoping they'd ship it out today.
Dell also replied after 8 days, basically confirming that the laptop is now in production. The rep also said he would expedite the production but Imo this was just talk.Mr.Claw likes this. -
They just called me 5 mins back. My EDD is dayafter.
They are like we are sorry, it won't meet the EDD and will be delayed due to unknown reasons (I already know the reason :-/ ). New EDD is also unknown but we have expedited your request (it has already been expedited 4 times . lol). We will inform you the new delivery date by email.
-
Bummer!
So the display is available but they haven't had time to assemble the system? What's the delay now? -
Does in production mean all products have been received ?
Maybe my EDD is really close and dint give them enough time to assemble. Will wait for their email and keep you guys updated.
-
Dell's description for its Pre-Production stage was that they were "readying components, installing software" etc. So since it moved out of that stage, it would seem they had received the UHD displays (since we know that's what was causing the delay).
Anyway, since they crossed your EDD, isn't there a way to speak to someone in Dell other than the customer service rep (maybe their manager) so that an accurate timeline can be obtained?
I don't have any idea how Dell works in the US. -
Dells customer service is really lacking, considering they're such a huge company. You'd think their support was better.
-
With all due respect, please start a thread for waiting for your newly ordered units.

They have also proclaimed the screen to be ****ty, as expected. Dell really messed it up with the display this time.
-
Mine should be here tomorrow!!!
Since this is my Christmas present am excited likes it Christmas morning.
Hope holding out for the UHD screen and not cancelling and going with a 17" is worth it. -
Congrats! Please mention your order date and original EDD also.....?
-
Order was Oct 16 EDD was Nov 30.
It's fully loaded except that I only got the 256GB M.2 as I plan to put a 512GB 950 Pro in it pretty soone.
Got 2 day shipping by using Dell financing. -
Not sure if someone posted this earlier (ceebs finding out too) but here's the calibration profile for the 15 R2 with the LG panel. YMMV but I got a deltaE of < 2. Calibrated using i1Display Pro for 6000K and 80cd/m^2. Use a display brightness of around 36%.
https://copy.com/brkbH86SrWsffsXq
From my experience, the LG panel is significantly brighter than the Samsung panel (221cd/m^2 vs 168cd/m^2). -
I have the Dell 15" R2 (6th gen processor), almost fully upgraded, and boy has it been a Pain. First, I called them about the display driver and they said my motherboard was faulty. I said ok, it's a new laptop, I understand, so they sent a tech out here to replace it. Then the same issues were still happening and I called them back to get my money back or an exchange. They persuaded me to get an exchange with "possible" better parts so I agreed. The exchanged unit ends up being refurbished (the lower portion of my screen has lighter spots like it has been pressed down to hard on and my esc key stays down when i press on it) AND there is STILL problems (screen flashing, ghost images, laptop shuts off randomly, wifi shuts off, laptop freezes, it's actually lagging as I am typing right now too). I am just completely unsatisfied with my purchase and I tried with more than 1 unit so this is obviously not just me. I believe the problems to be related to the Windows 10 operating system, but now that I have a refurbished unit I just want a refund because I feel like I got the low end of the stick.
Sucky thing is though is that I am in engineering school and I need a laptop for my labs. I have until Friday to return this laptop or take their $200 discount coupon code. I am either going to take their coupon, return the laptop and buy a same exact laptop with Windows 8, or return the laptop and buy a Macbook Pro base model (at a store) so I will not be without a laptop.
Dell really ****ed me over on this one. I know they have a bunch of different departments but I spent too much money to get ****ed over like this. It sucks.Mr.Claw likes this. -
anyone having issue with intel HD drive crash when browser loading flash or play HTML5 video?
-
So I received my AW15 with UHD screen today and I don't know what to say.
After switching it on I immediately noticed a dead/stuck/whatever pixel ( On a black screen its bright white and on a blue screen it looks slight greyish). I don't get how someone could have missed that in QC ( Dell's dead pixel policy states that one bright white pixel is out of norm).
I'm usually not sensitive to screen bleed but its very noticeable on my machine and the screen bezel is lose on the bottom which makes the Led shine through a little bit.
After booting I was welcomed by a yellowish mess. The brightness seems to be okay but not as good as my external monitor Dell Ultrasharp 2515H and MacBook Air 2012.

I was also under the assumption that the screen is a touch screen but after checking the product page again I couldn't find the info so I guess I was off.
What are my options now? is there a free configuration tool with which I can change the colors of the screen myself? Are there old color profiles from previous models that I could download?
How easy is it to return the Laptop?
I'm also having issues with my Intel HD driver crashing when browsing. How to I fix that.
I attached a couple pictures but overall I'm disappointed. If that's how the screen looks, I'll definitely return it.Attached Files:

Whoa, those photo look terrible, gee that isnt good. It is really yellow. Bit big to be a dead pixel, one UHD pixel shouldnt be able to be seen, not like that any way, that is a huge white spot. Light bleed is normal of IPS, but yea does look pronounced.
I gave up on the AW15 R2 and order the XPS UHD which is really nice panel, close to perfect to me. If that what the AW15 R2 is going to be like with the UHD, I cant see to point anymore.
Here is my model to compare, but is the XPS UHD

Damn. This doesn't sound nice at all.
You could try the calibration settings that people with FHD tried (even many had the yellow tint but did some calibration and it became okay i guess).
Though this is really surprising considering the UK guy was praising the 15R2 4k screen with good colors when he had got it. (though he disappeared after that).
I had also seen a small kinda review on this page about 15r2 4k screen(Chinese website - but used google translate) https://translate.google.com/translate?https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwapp.baidu.com%2Fp%2F4128350182&edit-text=

Here also it did not seem bad.
Damn. I have no idea why Dell is handling this A15 R2 release in such a manner. -
