I feel like ALL 6820HK are defective, nice quality control AW :) ! They should really fix this mess quick enough for it to be an 'early' quirk.

i think is going to be enough .. you will see an improvement ... try this paste .. http://www.ebay.com/itm/COOLERMASTE...487286?hash=item36033bd6f6:g:lmIAAOSwqbZXFPSu
seems like kryonaut performance drop fast in time ... is better to go for IC diamond 8,5W/mk or the new CM diamond compund 11W/mk

the thing is that you have a really good processor + high performance gpu, both with a great heatsink but a ****y thermal paste ... you have to repaste it or call Dell and they will make it for you

    So I got mine yesterday:

    Core i7 6700HQ
    GTX 1070
    4K UHD
    8GB RAM
    256SSD + 1TB HDD
    ORDERED: 14 OCT
    ORIG. EST. ARR: 7 NOV
    SHIPPED: 24 OCT
    ARRIVED: 26 OCT (Montreal downtown)

    First impressions:
SCREEN: I've got some minor light bleeding along to bottom row, but it's so uniform, I would probably have let it go. However, a the top is a different story, two large splotches across the top right starting from centre one about 3-4 CM the other more like 8CM. I'll try to post pics later. I will contact Dell about this after I've spent some more time with the machine. I also find the screen on the dim side. When they advertised 300 NITS I figured it would be bright. It was at max brightness in might bright office setting. I didn't need to go brighter but I couldn't if I had too. At home in a dimly lit room at night I had it at roughly 25%. Also, it is very high-res but doesn't "blow me away" in terms of quality. Still debating if I should have gone qith 1080P IPS and now I'm wondering if 1080P TN-WVA G_sync is a better option. I'm hoping to see some reviews soon and will call Dell to see what can be done.

SPEAKERS: Didn't test them out too much but they definitely didn't blow me away. Clear, but tinny for sure. At first I thought they might be broken, but I will continue to do more tests.

GOW4: Had to initiate a Windows Update to get the GOW4 download to work directly from the store. 80gb download and I set it to download overnight. Was still downloading on my 15/10 cable internet this morning (almost at 55GB).

The only game I ran was an old copy of Half-Life 2 I had. Max settings, 4K res etc. Ran very smooth (didn't have time to benchmark) however, the audio was staticy and slightly choppy wearing headphones (Sennheiser 558HD). I think this is more HL than the PC, but I will need to spend more time with it...

This was a 2 hour session last night while setting Windows up.

    Anyone else care to share?

Soo... Dell/Alienware finally just placed my replacement laptop order. I should have it next week *cross fingers*

I noticed they bumped my memory up to 16GB and added a M.2 ssd in which will be useless for me because I already have waiting 2x 512GB Intel 600p drives and a 2TB Samsung SSD!

Hopefully its not a turd lemon :)

My AW 15 just arrived. NO light bleed or dead pixels. 1080p screen IPS.
I'm still downloading games but my temps are average between 45 to 59 degrees on idle and downloading. Fan is quiet.

Can you guys send me link on benchmarking tools so i can test temps?

On the 15R3 is the 2242 m.2 slot key M (like the 2280 slots) or key B+M, and is it Pcie or Sata?

Ok - I can see from YouTube videos that it is key M pcie. I cannot find anywhere an M.2 SSD in this size, so what is the point of having a 2242 slot?

So I started playing Witcher 3. Fan ramps up then after 5 minutes, the laptop shuts down.

I hope this is a fluke. I haven't checked the temps yet. Do I check for maximum temps or average temps?

Worst case scenario, is Customer Service from Alienware 24/7?

Nah, brother. I always do stock clocks.

Although I have not updated the drivers for the 1070. Let me update the drivers, run HWINFO and Witcher 3 again. If it shuts down, it's time to return or replace.

Which is quicker? Refund or Replace?

No idea on refund,(maybe one month or so)
replace takes 1 week to 10 days max
Go for the 17, it runs much cooler at stock 820k
Why spend a premium and compromise with paste jobs!

    Are you from US?
tell them about the thermal shutdown, they will suggest repasting by technician, go for the premium line(2000$) talk and get the replace, and while you are at it get the 17 (same price in US).
If you are from UK , u might have to spend a bit more.
They will also refund if you force them.

So I followed the re-pasting guide and spent over an hour trying to get this guy taken apart but could not seem to pry the panel off from the motherboard. I also noticed with my wifi card that the black connector might actually be broken and was only connected because of the plastic connector.

Should I be worried? I was able to snap the white one back on and with the help of the plastic holder get the black one connected. I tested WiFi throughout my house and the connection seemed fine. Now is anyone located near the Washington DC area that might be able to lend me a hand? I have not had a chance to really game too much on here and everything seems to be running fine, but I would like to have that sense of security with a better paste job on my cpu and gpu.

Don't need it yet, but might later.

The transcend you listed is key B+M and the adata also, as well as being a 2280, so not much use - or can you put a key B+M into a key M slot and get it to work?????

They confirmed it but they are waiting for it to go in production, I think the hold up is due to the 6820 is no longer offered. I rather have that 6700 though little cooler. The gpu never got hot just the CPU.

Apple Retina panel to this new AW15 tn 120hz panel is going to take some getting used to. The 400nits uncomfortably strong on the eyes, the strong white washes out the colours. But a few modifications with the nVidia control panel can increase vibrance and contrast to more acceptable experience. Before these changes the settings i was thinking about talking to dell and sending back and getting the IPS screen installed instead but I'm already getting used to this panel. No screen bleed here.

Anyway, respect for dell delivering this beast early before the weekend. The Keyboard is the most sturdy keyboard I've used on a notebook. The whole rig is very solid and feels impressive quality and I wouldn't expect anything less for this class of notebook. notebook speakers are pretty bad but it's not a deal breaker at all. Games are downloading right now

I decide to just refund mine. They are still offering the 6820HK. Just not with a g-sync display. I reorder today and should have mine in less then a week with express shipping. Plus they are on sale so saved $300 off the first one. Speaking of first one had horrible bleed on screen and temps on cpu hit 97c on stock clock. Also using alienware amplifier and have to repair amplifier drivers after every start up or external gpu (Titan Pascel X Hybrid Cooler) performance degrades more after each restart.

Well, I finally received my AW15R3, and loaded up OCCT and HWiNFO and it is throttling really bad. CPU spikes up to 94C, and then it drops the speed down to 2.7-2.8GHz (with temps around 75-80C there). Definitely going to need to repaste. I think I might even repaste with some Arctic Silver 5 that I've got left over from years ago and go with that until the Gelid Extreme arrives.

Running the GPU test now, and after a couple of minutes it got up to 75C, but the fans then kicked up a bit and it's dropped to 69/70C. Seems consistent with everyone else. One thing that just seems weird to me with all the AW laptops is how the GPU's paste seems to be fine (at least, not terrible) but the CPU is horrendous. Why such a difference?

Also, I haven't seen it reported yet, but the 120Hz panel is an AU Optonics AUO51ED, B156HTN.

Edit: Wow, even managed to get Core #2 up to 98C before it throttled. Seems like mine is one of the worst. And I forgot to mention, but this is with the 6700HQ.
