Thanks for the reply. I tried getting on the chat line but it says 'Not available for Australian customers or all our lines are busy', I also tried calling but I just got hooked up with the robot. I'll just wait till the end of the week before busting balls.

That makes sence. What doesnt is the following: we now have the more portable 15 laptop with 7700 and 7820 with gsync only, while the 17 have nongsync option for more battery life. this makes no sense at all, if they need another motherboard for nongsync models, why not start this with the more portable 15??? and limit the 17 to gsync in the first place.

Also there is things people buy these for besides just gaming. The quality and specs at the price point make the AW laptops great for business that needs a laptop that can offer high end specs and portability. Without gsync the 7820HK combined with a 4k screen is great for cpu expensive work on the go and having a decent size gpu is great as well. They seem to forget that content creators also want their products.

As for the earlier statement abut gsync battery life wow if your getting 5 hours just watching videos that is not bad but we could easily be seeing hours and hours more than that if you could use the igpu. Especially on the new kaby lake series the igpu is powerful enough to basically watch any video without needing a dgpu.

The only thing I could even think of that would need a dgpu over a kaby lake igpu for video would be if you got madvr settings doing some really heavy work.

Yea now every cpu option comes with every gsync option. Also apparently you also get 4x the "Regulatory Compliance" (which is blank). lol

Also we now see that every cpu option except for the i7-7820HK has 2 different motherboard versions. So on the discussion of them not wanting to make so many boards they seem to have no problem offering two versions for every cpu variety except for the i7-7820HK which they could make a non gsync version of.

Just wondering if anyone is interested in a Custom nameplate for their AW machines?

I live in the AW 13 R3 thread and have just put together a small project to get some custom nameplates made up.

Take a look at Any love for a Custom AW Nameplate? (Poll)
and get a vote in! :)

That looks sweet! I returned my 15R3 for a higher spec model but when that comes in this US guy is interested depending on cost.

Well, I was all set to buy an AW 15R3 with a 4K screen, but then I see all these reports of a overheating issue. Should I wait until this has been confirmed to be fixed? But now I want a i7-7700HQ with 4K version, and Dell apparently doesn't offer that combination.

i think its a 4ms panel, but not sure. I connected up a 34inch 120hz monitor for games, so i no longer use the laptop monitor when gaming. i just use it for day to day tasks now.

Like glue or double side tape it on? Still would have its screw holes, and it is thicker. Don't think it would look to good unless you alter it

I did find the 4K screen versions available for the AW 15R3, i7-6700HQ and i7-6820HK, and even then you have to hunt around on the Dell site just to find those ones. Dell is not offering 4K screens for 7700 or 7820 for the AW 15R3 At least not yet.

MSI and Gigabyte both have 15-inch i7-7700 laptops available with 4K screens. Dell is following behind the competition in this respect, sad to say.

The only time the UHD 4k screen was offered on the 7 series cpu was on the lowest end cpu option and with the ATI gpu. When asked they said there was currently no plans to offer non gsync display options for the AW15 or 4k UHD for that matter.

Also please request to AW via twitter, that they should offer a 7820HK. This would put them a step above the competition! If they do not know we want it they are not going to sell it.

They do want to limit the number of different motherboards they have for each cpu. Currently due to multiple gpu options they have two of every cpu option except for the 7820HK for which they only make a single motherboard configuration for. This would be the perfect cpu to offer a second motherboard configuration to support 4k and allow the customer to have the ultimate power CPU and GPU wise while also having the best battery life a la optimus in a 15" package.

The thought of such a great system got me excited so I sent them this: https://twitter.com/ZERO_ibis/status/821682006551625728

If you are looking forward to similar configs with better battery life please chime in so that Alienware know if they build it we will buy it!

Would someone will be kind enough to test their aw with heroes of the storm on ultra@1080p (free2play) on a normal game with players (not the intro and not vs ai) im still debating between the 1060 and 1070, also the cpu... its a poorly optimized singlecoreish game, ty!

    How do.

Just an update with the 'AW Custom Nameplate' poll results.

After a day we have reached the goal of 25 (26 members votes currently) to get these custom nameplates manufactured! Can't wait for this!

I will be leaving the poll open for the 7 days for anyone who wants to jump onto the first order :)

    Hi,

I have been reading this forum for a while and you all have given to me a lot of valuable information about this laptops, so I want also to help you and have just created an account just to give you a piece of information I know.

I was waiting for the kaby lake refresh with the 4k display as some of you were doing, so I wrote to Umar from AW about the display and he just told me that new display options will be avaiable for the 15 version by mid-Feb (the date he wasn't sure, it is what he remembered)

Ok cool, that is what I was thinking given that the AW17 is expected to get some new options around that same time and they likely do productions in batches with all the new lines for each version arriving around the same time. I already waited since the release of the R3 for kaby lake to get the extra battery life I can wait another month. I just pray to god they offer the 7820HK without gsync b/c that is the only cpu that matters.

Just thinking, but you are sure you were talking about display options? The reason I ask is that the end of Feb is when Ryzen is scheduled for release and I wonder if we would see a laptop version. I doubt it because I have not heard anything expected for Ryzen release other than desktop parts but you never know.

    Yes, I'm sure
    But see it yourself:

    Question:
    Hi, two questions:
Is there any improvements on battery life and temps with kaby lake compared to skylake options?
Right now there are only gsync displays for the Alienware 15, which makes battery life worse. Is there going to be a 4k display option for those who want a good display but also a good battery life?
    Thanks

    Answer:
I don't have battery life data for KBL available to me that is official yet but its looking around 11h+. I believe the 15 is getting new screens in mid-Feb if I recall correctly. -Umar

I noticed Dell removed all their AW15R3 i7-6700HQ and i7-6820HK that used the GTX 1070 from their website today. Interesting.

What nation are you in? The 6 series has been off for quite some time. Or are you talking about in the outlet?

Ah maybe this is why they still not offering non gsync versions anywhere yet because in some places they still have new 6 series chips they want to get out of inventory before showing any sign of a replacement. (By all 3 screen options I assume you mean you can get the 6820 with a 4k display and other non gsync options in addition to the gsync TN option)

Only screens offered for 7 series right now are gsync and thus the connection is to the dgpu. While you could get non gsync screens and connect them to the dgpu you would not gain any power savings as for that you require connection to the igpu.

Mixed reports on this bios, you can flash and try.

For 6700HQ users I don't think it will matter much.

Kaby Lake is 0% IPC increase compared to Skylake, it's only a process refinement.

The 6-series CPU might have stopped shipment or lowered production so that is is only available to systems that need them. For example the precision mobile workstation, some people still use Windows 7 so Intel keep selling Skylake only to be used by those kind of laptop.

For us consumers, we always look at something new is better, thus the 7-series Kaby Lake is used as an advertising point for the Alienware laptops.

In any case, look at this stupidity that happened to a poor fellow.

So my replacement is coming between the 31st and 8th. Also getting a 7700HQ and 128GB M.2 upgrades for free. You don't have to lie or anything, just be honest about how you feel about whatever bs you have/had to deal with, Dell will take care of you. Even if it stresses you tf out like it did to me having to send like 3-4 emails saying that I'm not sending it in or having a tech waste my time again lol

I'm glad that you had a great customer service experience, but many of us did not. I received a 15 R3 with a 1060 instead of the 1070 I ordered, so I exchanged it, but they sent a 1060 laptop AGAIN. Then they lied to me, saying that they only allow one exchange, even though many people on NBR and reddit have had two to four exchanges, and they would only allow me to return for a refund. This is BS because returning for a refund means I would have to reorder the laptop and I can't get the same deal I did before (~$1400 for a 6700HQ + 1070 + 60Hz IPS). Effectively, they're forcing me to return it so they don't have to honor their promotion.

Damn is their customer service inconsistent. One guy gets free upgrades while another gets slapped in the face. (I'm glad it turned out well for you, though, illuMinniti).

I was stressed tf out with dealing with my problem too, let them know. As long as you aren't lying or taking advantage of anything, there's nothing wrong with letting them know what's wrong. Just be mature about it. Yeah I've read people had many problems with having parts switched, that's why I made it clear I was definitely not sending it to them to repair. They use a lot of loctite (probably misspelled it) so it's likely you could argue that its untouched by you, that they can check it themselves, it is all tied to your motherboard serial tag. I'm not sure if my serial will transfer to the new laptop, I'm pretty sure it'll have a new one (still same warranties though) but if they're replacing a problematic screen, that should retain the same exact serial.

They aren't the most technologically smart people, but I'd say just keep trying and be honest. You can't get caught in any lies or provide misinformation that could cause more problems. I'd like to think more companies are easier to deal with, but I've heard bad stories about every manufacturer having hardware and warranty/customer service problems. None of them are perfect or will be settled with one email. I'm pretty sure email it's easier for them to be thick headed, but I was in no rush

^ Just keep calling and hang up until you get the right customer care. I had to deal with over 4-5 sales rep until I got the discount I wanted... But I got it. You also have to ask for their supervisor / manager and keep trying. I am sure eventually you will succeed. Best of luck

    Hello guys !

So I contacted Dell about my temperatures, they asked me to spam F12 on startup and do a test, take a pic of the results and send them.

I was a bit scared as the CPU temps recorded on the test was "only" 88°C, as during gaming it reaches 97°C but no core temps difference at all.
Dell actually said there is a problem and they are sending a tech to replace the MoBo and the complete cooling system, they guy is coming on Wednesday.

Anything I should ask or check while he is replacing those parts on my laptop ? Do you think it would be acceptable if I give him some thermal Grizzly Kryonaut so he can repaste it at the same time ?

    Thanks guys!

Unfortunately, it seems as if all the agents and supervisors were in on it, as if they've all been specifically instructed to lie in this manner regarding 1070 ->> 1060 order problems. I explained everything as politely and thoroughly as I could evervy time, but all for nothing.

I'd gone without the horsepower needed for engineering school work for two months (I've been getting by with an agonizingly slow dual-core). No company has ever screwed me over as thoroughly as Dell. I ended up returning the 15 R3 as they wished, writing FTC and BBB complaints, and ordering a Gigabyte Aero 14 instead. I'm absolutely done with Alienware. If you have time, I suggest you to read MogRules's post at the Alienware subreddit. He's a moderator there who has tried very hard to give Alienware a chance, but has given up, as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/comments/5nn2sc/why_i_can_no_longer_support_this_brand_at_all/

Make sure the thermal pads pretty much match those in this guide - http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...5r3-disassembly-repaste-guide-results.797373/
And yeah its completely fine to ask to use the Kryonaught, most of them use it no problem.

Those Gigabyte laptops/notebooks imo are either too big and having outdated ports (some have VGA lol) or just look cheap meanwhile they're expensive. I always had ready in my mind and was prepared to tell them to send me the replacement lid or whole screen and I would do it myself, but I decided to wait it out, as it was less time consuming to write some emails than to open the laptop. Maybe I was treated better cuz I had also bought 4 years accidental damage, who knows. I had no choice but to keep a Alienware, I bought giftcards off Raise and those are non-refundable. I saved a lot doing that but there was a point where I wish I didn't just cuz of how thick their techs were being

I have just bought Alienware 15 R3 with GeForce 1070, but my problem is after using it for less than 1 week, yellow vertical line comes out on the monitor about 2 inch from left side. is there any method that I could fix by myself or I have to go to support to complain about it? I have done upgraded the BIOS and all monitor drivers, Intel and Nvidia? please help and thanks in advance. YELLOW VERTICAL LINE.PNG

Kryonaut can be used, 88 and 97c indicates that your heatsink isn't that properly fitted onto the silicon dies.

That sounds like LCD related damage, either you have a defective screen or a damaged LCD cable.

Strange that the issue would not start right away but only after a week...

This might also be due to the micro memory bug, see http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...bal-issues-gpu-firmware-update-needed.800219/ . Is the bug also there in optimus mode?
