    I got my 15r3 yesterday.

    6820hk
    GTX 1070
    UHD
    16gb 2667hz

Cpu temps were hitting 90 degrees on the simple CPUZ stress test lol. I repasted the cpu and the temps are much lower but adverage temp on the cores are all over the place. I tried to overclock the cpu in the bios to 4ghz but when I load up into windows it only shows 3.6 ghz.. tried resetting the bios to defaults no joy. It was easy to just overclock to 4ghz on the 15r2.

Any help on overclocking via the bios?

I've tried xtu but the clocks don't stick :(

Just as a follow up, at -0.2V even though it was stable in CPU stress tests, when I ran OCCT + Furmark the temps went back up above 90C and the system crashed. Going to contact tech support on Monday to get a replacement.

Same problems here. some flickering and shut downs. battlefield 1 overheating the cpu

Having to open up and repaste a brand new machine just to use it is unacceptable. I won't be doing it until alienware show some work on their end as well

Those options would be missing when I used to have the dell Nvidia drivers installed on my m14x. Not sure if it's the same situation.

Can you install either a SATA or PCI-E SSD in the m.2 slots?

I know pcie is faster but I can get a lot more storage for the money with sata.

    Some said
Thanks! It's a high probability that it's a 951, since is was used in earlier iterations. But I've also heard that it's a Toshiba drive, an OEM version of the XG3. I'm still unsure of which one.

Unless you have Gsync, or optimus disabled in the bios. that is all you will see in Nvidia control panel because the Intel GPU is driving the display

Why dont you wait for 960 series to come up? New EVOs are cheaper and faster than 950/951pro... Just my 2 cents

What? I wasn't aware that they were already released! Thanks for the heads up! Look at the 960 Evo's speed, that's just, what?! What are the key differences between the 960 evo and 960 pro, other than their speeds?

That didn't really say if you could use an m.2 sata in place of the pcie. He specifically stated that he used the same model Dell uses.

THNSN5512GPUK , its the Toshiba XG4 series (Non SED model).
This model is manufactured only in bulk, so you will have to buy second hand in that case.

It means nothing. Third party TLC tests shown big potential before failure. I have a zoo of 840/850EVOs - all work just fine.

    Hi to all!

I'm new in this forum and new with AW computers. Trying to choose between 2 new 15'' configurations and can't make up my mind. Maybe someone can help me to make the right decision :)

Basically I'm torn apart between these two models:
    1) AW 15'' i7 6700HQ, gtx 1060 or 1070, 1080p 60hz panel and 99wh battery
    2) AW 15'' i7 6700HQ, gtx 1070, 1080p 120hz panel and 99wh battery

Main thing for me is the battery life, because occasionally need to use it in class and don't want to search for power outlet all the time, 4-5 hours would be superb (word, excel, visual studio, light web browsing etc) :)

Anyone here owns the new 120hz panel? How it changes battery usage comparing with 60hz panel? How long is delivery times in U.S? I'm from Estonia, but I will order it to my friends address in the states and he will send it to me.
Sorry for my not so good English!

    Cheers,
    Antero.

I would suggest the 1st option since you will have Optimus and you can run the system with the intel GPU when needed giving you better battery life.

Battery life would be similar, though the first will be better.
If you are a low-mid end gamer go with the 1060, otherwise 1070.

Hey there, first of all, welcome! I'm also quite new here.

If I was given a choice between the 2, I'd go for the second one. But, personally, I'd go for a 6820hk, fhd 60Hz, and 1070 combo, since you can plug in an external monitor with high refresh rate. The reason being is because, since kabylake is close to launch, might as well go for a more powerful cpu for further use in the future. Just a little opinion of mine :)

But seriously, go for the second one.

    Does anyone here have or have ordered the "15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 120Hz TN+WVA Anti-Glare 400-nits NVIDIA G-SYNC Enabled"?
I would like to know if it suffers from the strange banding that the QHD 120Hz TN+WVA display on the AW17 R4 suffers from.
