I got my 15r3 yesterday.
6820hk
GTX 1070
UHD
16gb 2667hz
Cpu temps were hitting 90 degrees on the simple CPUZ stress test lol. I repasted the cpu and the temps are much lower but adverage temp on the cores are all over the place. I tried to overclock the cpu in the bios to 4ghz but when I load up into windows it only shows 3.6 ghz.. tried resetting the bios to defaults no joy. It was easy to just overclock to 4ghz on the 15r2.
Any help on overclocking via the bios?
I've tried xtu but the clocks don't stick![]()

Just as a follow up, at -0.2V even though it was stable in CPU stress tests, when I ran OCCT + Furmark the temps went back up above 90C and the system crashed. Going to contact tech support on Monday to get a replacement. -
Same problems here. some flickering and shut downs. battlefield 1 overheating the cpu
Having to open up and repaste a brand new machine just to use it is unacceptable. I won't be doing it until alienware show some work on their end as wellLast edited: Oct 29, 2016hmscott likes this. -
Not that kind of errors, i meant MTBF by error, which reduce to half.
Yes, you should play nfs on raid.
-
yes, it was fixed by reverting to the previous build of the graphics driver. (no battlefield)

In the language of The Wire: Omar is lying.
Unless ofcourse Omar can prove it. -
Are both 2280 M.2 slots 4 channel?

I got a USB C hub (4 USB-A + 1 HDMI), but it doesn't work with the rear port (Either doesn't connect or disconnects after a few minutes). Works fine with my phone and the side USB C port, though.
If anyone has the same hub, mind testing it out?

is it me , or am i missing alot of options in the nvidia control panel , as all i see is the "3D settings tree"
missing all the "display" and "video tree settings/options.Attached Files:

i've tried setting it to the high performance nvidia and auto select as well as intergrated graphics , in the 3d settings , no change however.
-
Those options would be missing when I used to have the dell Nvidia drivers installed on my m14x. Not sure if it's the same situation.

i do have 375.70-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql installed direct from nvidias web site.
however in the download list there i selected "geforce 10 series"
i did not select the geforce 10 series "notebook"Last edited: Oct 29, 2016 -
You press FN + F7 will make the system run with only the dedicated nVidia card.
-
then download the 10 series notebook, and check if its still there.
do keep us posted. -
Is the 128GB SSD option from Dell a 2242 or 2280?
-
Does anybody have an idea on the model number for the 512gb ssd? I'm trying to find another one and raid them.
-
i was lookin around last week for this as well , best i came up with was MZVLV512HCJHN3V3RB3LIEV3 likes this.
-
Can you install either a SATA or PCI-E SSD in the m.2 slots?
I know pcie is faster but I can get a lot more storage for the money with sata.hmscott likes this. -
this shows all the slots and info on them
Aman Krishna and hmscott like this. -

Thanks! It's a high probability that it's a 951, since is was used in earlier iterations. But I've also heard that it's a Toshiba drive, an OEM version of the XG3. I'm still unsure of which one. -

Unless you have Gsync, or optimus disabled in the bios. that is all you will see in Nvidia control panel because the Intel GPU is driving the display -
Why dont you wait for 960 series to come up? New EVOs are cheaper and faster than 950/951pro... Just my 2 centsN3V3RB3LIEV3 likes this.
-
What? I wasn't aware that they were already released! Thanks for the heads up! Look at the 960 Evo's speed, that's just, what?! What are the key differences between the 960 evo and 960 pro, other than their speeds?
-
the m.2 supports nvme in the laptop, if i am not mistaken the evo line of samsung is no nvme its sata.
-
That didn't really say if you could use an m.2 sata in place of the pcie. He specifically stated that he used the same model Dell uses.
-
thanks , however looking in the bios settings i not seeing any options releated to this.,hmscott likes this.

2280

THNSN5512GPUK , its the Toshiba XG4 series (Non SED model).
This model is manufactured only in bulk, so you will have to buy second hand in that case. -
Yes absolutely, since they are not PCIe specific like the ASUS.
-
So a 1 TB 850 EVO m.2 will work? That's way cheaper than a 1 TB pcie nvme.
-
No pal, its NVMe and its dirt cheap.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/10698/samsung-announces-960-pro-and-960-evo-m2-pcie-ssds
-
So are you saying that any of the PCIE M.2 slots will definitely take a B+M key sata SSD?
-
They are referring to the previous 850 Evo which is Sata6.. New 960 Evo is NVMe.
-
See pic above.
-
look at the endurance of the 960s though compared to the 950s wow
-
It means nothing. Third party TLC tests shown big potential before failure. I have a zoo of 840/850EVOs - all work just fine.judal57 likes this.

Absolutely.
-
Who said all?
I specified the Alienware series only. -
Apologies - I meant in the Alienware only!
-
The m.2 2280 slot at the bottom supports all kinds of samsung m.2 ssds starting with the 850 evo.

Hi to all!
I'm new in this forum and new with AW computers. Trying to choose between 2 new 15'' configurations and can't make up my mind. Maybe someone can help me to make the right decision
Basically I'm torn apart between these two models:
1) AW 15'' i7 6700HQ, gtx 1060 or 1070, 1080p 60hz panel and 99wh battery
2) AW 15'' i7 6700HQ, gtx 1070, 1080p 120hz panel and 99wh battery
Main thing for me is the battery life, because occasionally need to use it in class and don't want to search for power outlet all the time, 4-5 hours would be superb (word, excel, visual studio, light web browsing etc)
Anyone here owns the new 120hz panel? How it changes battery usage comparing with 60hz panel? How long is delivery times in U.S? I'm from Estonia, but I will order it to my friends address in the states and he will send it to me.
Sorry for my not so good English!
Cheers,
Antero. -
I would suggest the 1st option since you will have Optimus and you can run the system with the intel GPU when needed giving you better battery life.

Battery life would be similar, though the first will be better.
If you are a low-mid end gamer go with the 1060, otherwise 1070. -
Hey there, first of all, welcome! I'm also quite new here.
If I was given a choice between the 2, I'd go for the second one. But, personally, I'd go for a 6820hk, fhd 60Hz, and 1070 combo, since you can plug in an external monitor with high refresh rate. The reason being is because, since kabylake is close to launch, might as well go for a more powerful cpu for further use in the future. Just a little opinion of mine
But seriously, go for the second one. -
Does anyone here have or have ordered the "15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) 120Hz TN+WVA Anti-Glare 400-nits NVIDIA G-SYNC Enabled"?
I would like to know if it suffers from the strange banding that the QHD 120Hz TN+WVA display on the AW17 R4 suffers from.
