So scored this from the outlet last night for $1750 after tax and 1 year complete care:

    7820HK
    32GB Ram
    512GB SSD +1TB HDD
    1920x1080 120Hz Screen
    1 Year with complete care

I assume that the GPU is a 1070 as they did not have one listed there. The power supply is a 240W so I assume its a 1070 as I look on Alienware's page and the only config with those specs is with a 1070 and $1200 more.

Just wondering thoughts on the 120Hz screen overall?

Ok, so from what i saw cpu performances are better, but graphics performances are worse.

    6700hq - 150 mV
    1070 ( + 210 core / + 190 memory ) (micron)
    16gb

Globally temps didn't changed, just 1 or 2 degrees less for CPU
But Cinebench scores are a bit better : before i had in average 675cb.
    With the 0.12 i did 8 test one after the other : 680 678 681 683 684 685 685 683
    So it's pretty good.

(In fact, the ratio for core 1,2 and 3 had been raised. Now we can have all the core at 3,5Ghz...)
EDIT : I was wrong, as @Papusan said, i though that only because of too low refresh rate from hwinfo Which then display wrong current value : x35 simultaneous to all 4 cores which is impossible with the 6700hq...

Side of it, power has been raised too. Before it was at about 33W in full load. While the test it reached 40W now.

But i did 3 fire strike test, and i loosed 200 point. Before i had 14250, now i have 14050. Combined test is a bit better, but graphic test score is worst...

I'm not sure if vbios has been updated, but may be. If someone have info about it ?

EDIT : Idle power has been decrease, now when the cpu isn't in charge, it consum about 4W. Which is great for running time on the battery

Bad point, it looks like fans curv is lower than with the 1.0.9 so it warm a lot more...

Will do, I was able to get confirmation that it is indeed a GTX 1070.

    You can't unlock a fully locked 6700hq.
And if you could run 3.5GHz all 4 cores with 6700hq in Cinbench R15, would all your Cinbench scores be a lot higher than what you now get. 3.5GHz ~ 780 in Cinbench R15 and not a wimpy +-680cb. Heck, see my Cinbench R15 score with stock [email protected] clock speed

    I didn't changed any multiplier...
For sure i didn't unlock it

EDIT : but your right, in full load, like in CB, the multipliers decrease to x31, why ?

A fully locked i7 can't Turbo boost higher on 4 cores as I said in previous post. Fully locked down!! One of the worst low entry mobile core i7 in history!! Heck, the older low entry models could overclock with 2 bin. And +-680cb in Cinbench R15 is lower score than from many other brands models with same locked down i7. See my score above. And never under 694cb with same BGA clocks!!

Sure 680cb is low for a cpu... But from what i saw, 685 is ok for the 6700hq bga(i have some bloatware running in background) ...

What i don't understund, is that in little load all 4 cores can be simultaneous at x35 look at my screenshot. But it can't in full load and decrease to x31 ?

Put Hwinfo with lowest possible polling rate. You find it in settings. Regardless... 3.1GHz is maximum for 4 cores. Look into Intel's web site and see the specifications for this BGA chips. See also on Notebookcheck.net

    At the lowest possible rate (100ms) it was showing 35 33 35 33 (core 0 1 2 3) max simultaneous.
So what you mean is that i though my cpu was reaching those frequencies only because the multipliers are refreshed faster than display value by hwinfo ?

There may be a delay in software. The processor can change power states in micro seconds.

Just got in this outlet KabyLake 15R3 and I noticed that the Alienware head on the back stays green and I am unable to change the color. Does this have something to do with G-Sync?

I have been out for a while... So the heatsink design for the 2017 Kabylake laptops remains unchanged? They are still prone to overheating? :(

Yeah, And the first AW "Echo" models from early 2015 isn't fixed either. Remember the 799MHz throttling mess with those early models? People still fighting with Dell support. Look into the AW sub threa and you will find it... See also the pict below.

    stupid question incoming:

Does the motherboard have a free USB connector somewhere? Like the ones where you plug in the PC case slots on a desktop mainboard?
I'd like to build the steam controller dongle into the chassis.

Also, you guys know the jam glas lids? If you press on one side it bends and makes a clicky sound. I have that on the underside of my AW15... No idea how I could fix it but it's annoying and concerning...

    I'm from Sweden..

I tried to update my 1 week old Alienware 15 R3 with kabylake ... THE **** GOT BRICKED :-(

Tried to open it up and removed alot of **** and stripped several screws I believe the hulk put in there.
Removed the battery but still 7 beeps and blinking red power button.

2200$ down the drain if they won't honor the warranty cause I messed around with the screws... I feel sick.

Going to contact DELL tomorrow and probably go through the 3 month wait of horror I've heard some other users experienced.

Unplugging the battery isnt enough, you should short some circuits, idk what exactly, but im sure someone here will help you resetting bios manually.

I've done it. Didn't notice any difference in performance on 6700/1070.
The main difference it that temperatures gone up.
1070 never reached 80C before, but now maximum temperature was 84 during GTA V.
Processor temps increased by about 10C under load.

Thats a bummer. I get that gsync is good, and also that optimus generate some extra lag cause wiring, but not all of us want to game on their laptops monitor. It should be an option to have a gaming laptop with higher battery life, and when you game, you can (and should) hook up your 24+ gsync 144hz+ monitor... but hey, nothing more we can do here :(

Yea they just tossed a lot of money out the window. These are great laptops for work due to the good parts and cooling but the gsync is useless. I was going to be buying a bunch of them... time to start looking somewhere else.

Really sucks, not even sure if I want one for myself anymore. Does anyone know how the battery life of the AW 15 is comparing to the AW 13 right now?

Maybe there is some 6820HK non gsync floating around still but then I got to deal with the micron memory crap that they do not plan to ever fix...

Just sucks as I waited from the day that this product released for kaby lake to come out because I wanted the better battery life from the native 10bit decode only to find out there was no battery life increase only decrease.

It does look like Dell is loosing its touch. Have been using only Dell computer for the last 13 years but the way it has been going on this year, I think I might have to look else where in 4 years.

Yes, I was looking for what you just said, and I've been waiting a long time just for nothing
    +1
I think I'm going after the aw13 with oled because It seems that with the new processors battery life has been improved:
    Kabby: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Alienware-13-R3-Notebook-Review.197508.0.html ; http://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/alienware-13-r3-oled

If you see the new reviews it seems that there is an improvement. I'm trying to see what people says about this in the 13's thread.

I think that is marketing. If you can choose to work with a gpu with a much lower tdp...... About Aw15's battery, you can see it in the reviews: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Alienware-13-R3-Notebook-Review.197508.0.html vs http://www.notebookcheck.net/Alienware-15-R3-Notebook-Review.196584.0.html
The 15 model is far from Optimus battery results and now the 13 (with Optimus) wins

Based on Mr Azors trackrecord the last months I would rather take it as a recommendation to get Optimus if he say not to. Well, perhaps not, but he seems to me more a marketing/sales person than anything else these days...

The problem is that he is saying that they are not going to offer Optimus as an option because it is bad. I have therefore asked if they plan to drop Optimus from all of their laptops given that Optimus is bad.

I mean if Optimus == bad then none of their laptops should have it. But if Optimus != bad than why should only the AW15 not have it?

Still have not gotten a response from umar from my tweet last week about UHD on 7820HK other than he is looking into it and should have a response "soon": https://twitter.com/aw_umar/status/832322965089947648

Hopefully, once Umar responds we will have more info to go on.

I don't think Optimus is giving us that much more battery life. I mean the guys with the Kaby models are saying 4-6 hours. That's exactly what I'm getting with Optimus... so what is it a whole bunch of nothing with Pascal?

You can't compare battery life like that... Following background processus, and apps running... Screen brightness, etc...

You have to go into the task manager and see which apps are running automatically which is not necessary. I went through the entire list and disabled some of the services

With w10 you can go a step further by delving into Settings > System > Battery. See which apps consume the most battery.

But this is not what you have to compare for battery (app percentage utilisation) but how much CPU and GPU are eating.
