I would uninstall any of dells software but keep the bare necessities (which shouldnt be much from dell). I find systems run smoother and just fine with whatever windows provides and/or manually updating drivers from dells support site.

Has anyone done any measurements on the screen brightness on the AW15 4K screen? It claims to be 300 nits but seems to be less, although I don't have any hardware to meassure it. And yes, Adaptive Brightness is disabled.

Could be my imagination but I feel that the screen is less bright after installation, does Dell/AW had some magical software, display profiles etc that are enabled on default installations?

Ok so I got alienware to send a technician to do a repaste. Used kryonaut and although the temperatures are somewhat lower I still get up to 92C on prime95 FFT's, usually before the fans kick in, then it drops and I still get a 10C or so difference between the cores. Is this normal? Should I ask for a replacement?

Undervolting -160 gets me similar temps. early 90C range

It is there but when you try and configure one you do not have the option to upgrade.

Maybe they finally cleared the inventory... so the question is if they will replace 1070 gsync hq with a 1070 gsync hk option.

That would be awesome. Of course then I will face the dilemma of whether or not to return the 1070 gsync hq that I ordered a few days ago...

Had a call with Dell today about the backlight bleed. They asked for a screen photo.

After that they have offered either a repair in more than 1-2 weeks or a refund with a 15% discount voucher in a new unit.

Only me that can no longer find any drivers on the Dell support site for AW15 R3? Only Dells Delivery application and Operating system recovery image.

Trying to get all fn keys to work as the should after a reinstallation.

You're doing better than I did. After chatting to a Dell Australia support staff member (fairly senior I believe) and having him remote to my machine to test it, I was basically told that the CPU dropping down to 2.6GHz and being unable to maintain the Turbo Boost was not a malfunction and as such no replacement or repair would be offered. My choice was to either accept a refund (under the 15 day satisfaction guarantee) or live with it.

I did some more testing last night though and with OCCT + Furmark it actually throttles down to 2.2GHz with stock voltage, so I'm going to go back to them with that and see if they'll allow a replacement now. I'm definitely tempted to just accept a refund and wait for Kaby Lake at this point, hoping that they'll have fixed the thermal issues by then, plus have the slightly better performance & lower power consumption from Kaby Lake improvements, but at best that's at least 2 months away, and I'd really rather not have to wait. It seems like even amongst the 120Hz batch my unit is exceptionally hot, so I'm going to have to wait.

FWIW, I repasted again with Gelid Extreme last night, and whilst it helped with the GPU compared to the previous old paste (it dropped OCCT+Furmark GPU temps from 78 to 75) the CPU still throttles back to 2.2GHz.

Yeah I am having the same problem, I did a clean install and the Dell website is not showing any drivers. I couldn't find anywhere to download the Alienware command center so I ended up restoring windows back to the factory one.

Wow that sucks. Did you request to speak to a manager?

Curious too that you don't have the right to request an exchange regardless if you are within the return period.

From what I gather he is the manager.

I was just looking at their policy and it clearly states that you can exchange the item within 15 days: https://www.dell.com/learn/au/en/aucorp1/policies-returns

Not sure why he's denying it now...

Edit: just reading over their policy again; although it says happy to offer exchange or refund, it doesn't specifically state they'll offer both, so I guess by offering a refund they're fulfilling their obligation?

Still trying to decide whether I even want a replacement or whether I should just wait for Kaby Lake...

Yes, mine does. If anything I wish it didn't - not much point to it. It would be better if that light actually changed depending on whether the battery was charging or not. At the moment if the laptop is closed there's no way to tell when the battery is fully charged.

I see it. It's the last option for 3249.99 can
Ya our work laptops have the blue light and the i7559 came with one to. The only thing I find it's useful for is to remind me if there is power.

DO NOT RUN FURMARK ON ANY GPU
DO NOT RUN FURMARK ON ANY GPU

    Do I make myself clear?

With that said, the only solution to this heat method is LIQUID METAL MAGIC :p

I already repasted Vassilli's 15R3 and got some amazing results: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...problems-possible-fixes.797813/#post-10379169

Same Liquid metal  You have 3 branding of Liquid metal... Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra, Grizzly Conductonaut and Phobya Liquid metal. Forget the rest.

I don't recomend BGA machines from any brand :) For me it's wasted money!!

Nope, I use Conductonaut, is better than CLLU.

Heat conductivity rating (higher is better)
    Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut - 73 W/mk
    Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra - 38.4 W/mk

The temperatures are pretty much under control if you use Conductonaut LIQUID METAL MAGIC!

With MSi you need to check with reseller which panel you will be receiving. I believe that most 4K 17" laptops use the B173ZAN01.0 which is 60FPS w/ 25millisecond GTG response time (95% Adobe RGB)

With the Alienware 15 R3 4K screen this is my calibration result (yes I did warm up for an hour and test for 5+ hours on displaycal), i1 Display Pro.

    no clue what bga is
im just trying to get away from having to be on my desktop all day long in order to get any work done or gaming. im never home, and currently im relying on a chromebook that cant do much

well i was going get the msi GT62VR with the 1080p gsync panel but then i saw the sager had a 4k 15', found out they use a panel with pentile and not great color.
remembered dell has the igzo panel (read theyre super accurate with color) so i came to read some reviews hoping to score a 4k laptop instead but now these post got me scared id get a r3 with a ton of problems

as far as repasting would that void any warranties with Dell?

dell is nice on warranty (provided you be careful), warranty will not be void if you open up the laptop to repaste. if any damage happens down the road you can quickly swap to regular thermal paste and say you never did anything to the laptop

opening up an msi just to swap ram and or clean fans will void the warranty sticker on the back of laptop

I'm not sure what panel the 15" sager uses, maybe @Meaker@Sager knows more

"igzo" is just a type of IPS display, not that special

before buying please do make sure you get the exact panel type of the laptop and look up the datasheet for color coverage data

bga is the method of putting cpu and/or gpu directly on the motherboard with solder and without socket

there is also removable CPU with PGA/LGA socket and removable GPU with MXM socket

sager uses the same Samsung panel that the lenovo Y50 uses according to the sager threads
so is the alienware 15 r3 a decent buy if i repaste?
probably buy directly from dell i have 18 month no interest financing with them

@Mobius 1 You must tell the whole story. BGA is as you said cpu/gpu soldered on the motherboard = Buy the longest and best Warranty you can buy for your money. Soldered cpu / gpu is widely used in thin laptops. More as in - Thin Apple Book machinery. Low Performance and CPU throttling is well known problem as well...

No almost all ODM/OEM's use all sorts of BGA in their laptop models. Almost everything of processors is soldered. And I hate it  Only Clevo and a single MSI barbone use proper socket hardware. See also MSI 15" barbone http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...nado-f5-owners-and-discussions-lounge.797128/
A lot of people are happy with the machine :) Pricey as well. And Not pricey :D

My desktop has a 5930k so im not sure i need a 6700k and all that heat lol.

for sure interested just not quite ready, have to figure out if i should get the GT62VR or the 15 r3. (GT runs very cool and has all the specs i need just the alienware has that tempting 4k panel)
need to figure out from which vendor also because i need financing/broke college student (had people tell me gentech or hidevolution. xoticpc also has financing, and if i buy directly from dell i can use my dell credit line)
