Here you go: (Scroll down to the end of OP #1)
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...5r3-disassembly-repaste-guide-results.797373/

Also these are the fans that I've bought for one of my U3's. They seem to be the quietest (lowest db's) high static, while pushing the most cfm's in this class. There are a lot of fans to choose from, but although these are ugly (color IMO) they are darn quiet.

I rigged a voltage regulator that I had laying around lol...works great.

Also, do keep in mind though that, if you run your laptop on max fans, then it doesn't matter how quiet the fans are that you get for the U3.

I'm actually going to try these fans as well.

    Good luck!

A very good choice  Also the smaller brother EK-Vardar F4-120 (2200rpm) is a very good choice if you want lower noise or skip the voltage regulator. Have them both. Fantastic quality fans.

    Nice...looking forward to them.

    I was just looking at the specs of the;

EKWB EK-Furious Vardar FF5-120 (3000rpm) Black High Static Pressure 120mm Cooling Fan

    ...and had noticed the voltage ratings...so I wouldn't be able to run these from a USB powered like I am with the current fans that I have;

Noctua 140mm Premium Quiet Quality Fan with AAO Frame Technology (NF-A14 PWM)

    ???

I may be able to use the same voltage regulator that I have currently...

    * As for the noise / db's...it's not even a factor since the laptop fans are much louder anyway haha.... win-win for when choosing the most powerful of fans eh....nice not having db's in the equation. :p

    Weren't the vardar's jsut rebrands?

Often I just stick with the COrsair high SP fans for my needs or Noctua's often you can go more silent without sacrificing cooling performance. Especially for setups where the fan needs to push air directly onto an object. HIgher SP is better than actual RPM.

You could hit up and use similar Adjustable Step-up Voltage Regulator Converter WITH 9V/12V OUTPUT As in the picture below . Remember 9v will reduce the airflow a good bit.

FYI 4 pin fans aka like the Vardar you showed as I have are PWM controlled and will work, although some fans don't work with voltage controller. Must be tested.

Edit... I use overclocked voltage on the fans. Aka 15.3V PSU from an old PC :D And I'm sure the fans will run several years anyway.

    Hey guys,

My 3DMark just stopped working properly. The menu comes up, I can select a benchmark (such as Firestrike) and start it but then within a fraction of a second of running the benchmark it cancels and gives me a result of zero with an unspecified error. Very strange, all my games and other apps work perfectly. Just 3DMark benchmarks won't run. Any ideas?

    Good day nice people!

I'm new to the forum, just signed up to gather some information about what might be happening to my laptop.

I've got an Alienware 17 r2, bought it on March last year, and it started acting weird a couple weeks ago.

It all started with the battery no charging all the way (gets stuck at 78/80%), it is pretty much always connected to the power (240 one), but last night this happened.

I was playing a movie and decided totake the laptop to my bed, when I unplugged it it **** down. I tried to turn it back on but wouldn't let me. Plugged it in again and it did start BUT, screen was black and this series of beeps would go on and on, 5 beeps. I googled a bit and it said the battery would seem to be the ploblem, I did what it said online, holding pressed the FN key and starting it, it did start but said the battery had a permanent failure and needed to be replaced. Pressing f1 would let me start it just normally again, but after scanning the entire laptop it says theres no problem with the battery whatsoever.

I'm assuming this has happened to any of you guys before, so I would love a wee help here,

    THANKS!!

Check current Battery capacity using Dell ePSA which can found by pressing F12 upon startup then choosing diagnostics.

Before pursuing a legal suit against Dell, I want to be sure of some things
(Reason - Dell stopped responding to my calls, no response to email, promised to pick up laptop a week ago but never happened. So, consumer court is the only way ahead for me)

My laptop is under warranty until Feb 11th 2018. I am pretty sure I am adherent to all the terms mentioned here - http://www.dell.com/learn/in/en/inc...-services-support?c=in&l=en&s=corp&cs=incorp1

    Here are my assumptions:

    1. If the ambient temperature is within 35C, having i7 6700HQ processor, I MUST get 3.1GHz on all processors(multithreaded turbo boost) no matter the load I throw at it. Else, there is hardware Fault
Explanation - Running Prime95 is throttling the clockspeed to as low as 2.0GHz, with occasional drop to 799MHz. Same is the case with Aida64. The clock speed is shown on Windows Task manager if HwINFO is "third party and illegal?". Running ffmpeg or any CPU intensive OpenCV/Matlab/R programs still results in no more than 2.4-2.5GHz on all cores. Windows Performance Mode with 100% as Maximum processor state. So, everything fine there

    2. The surface of the laptop should heat up-to only to a reasonable temperature and not untouchable
Explanation - Surface heating still persists, even when laptop is idle. I don't know what reasonable temperature is, since it is subjective.

I'm done waiting for them. They are completely trying to evade me. They will have a lawsuit in their face!

    Please confirm my assumption

    Thanks

Alright. In XTU, Core TDP is 25W and Package TDP is 28W. Thermal Throttling is "YES" constantly. Maximum Clockspeed is around 2.5-2.7GHz. Not sure what to make of it.

Intel guarantees you Processor Base frequency with max load of 45W TDP. Anything below this is scam for locked processors. But Thermal Throttling is another matter. Dell have to fix it for you. Your BGA processor should be able to run max 45W TDP powa 24/7/365.

Whatever load = Intel's advertised Processor Base Frequency with 45W load!! Aka Intel can't promise more than 2.6HGz with 45W load!! The Trash is designed for this Specification.

I've failed to understand! I don't understand "45W load" on a processor. Let me understand it in a much simple way!

    Let's get this straight:

My processor is i7 6700HQ. Base frequency is 2.6GHz. Single core turbo boost frequency is 3.5GHz. 4 core turbo boost frequency is 3.1GHz.

I run Prime95, Small FFT test that generates Maximum heat due to FPU usage with AVX instructions

What frequency am I entitled to get on all of four cores at 100% CPU usage?

@sagarbhathwar: i7 6700 HQ @ 2.6GHz runs at TDP 45W and for 3.5GHz it takes 56W for short power window of 8 secs.

Intel guarantee (stipulated) in their spec 2.6GHz with 45W load for 6700hq. You can test out with Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool Different type load can provide different power draw with same processor clock speed. Remember you can run higher clock speed vs. power draw if you can manage a decent undervoltage. But not higher than max locked down Turbo boost for all 4 cores.

    Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool

"The purpose of the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool is to verify the functionality of an Intel® Microprocessor. The diagnostic checks for brand identification, verifies the processor operating frequency, tests specific processor features, and performs a stress test on the processor."

At the end of the day, to show that the processor is not working according to specification, what should I show?

    Absolutely no idea.
It doesn't even stress the program like ffmpeg and passes all tests with max temperature of 80C. ffmpeg shoots up temps to 97C within a second. Not a good way to show processor malfunctionality

Your BGA processor shall NOT Throttle down under fully Turbo Boost clock speed if max 45W ain't reached!!

See example in the pict posted. The 6700hq can't hold max 3.1GHz Turbo boost on all 4 cores in P95 load. The reason is the processor have used up max alloved 45W TDP by design. Low temp doesn't matter. This isn't throttling in the correct term. Work by Intel's design (The Processor Base frequency is 2.6GHz and can't boost higher due the TDP limit), Hence No throttling. Aka People buy low binned JUNK as you see. + They pay higher price for the BGA trash than what you have pay for better binned LGA i7.

Wooh! Okay! Is there any way to get 45W load? Cus mine is stuck at max 28W I think

See the attached Pics "first" and "second"

I understand "first" is thermal throttling, though 25W usage

"Second" you can see 798MHz. And 15W Power. What is that?

This must be an one off thing. I never saw a 6700hq not holdings its boost clock as long of the thermals are in check ever.

It's a big difference between your Thermal throttling vs. Throttling due reached max TDP.

If you are looking for it, you will find lots of similar cases. No thermal throttling. But throttle down due reached max TDP.

But what is this 798MHz?? It happens very frequently in CSGO and PlanetSide 2 and when running ffmpeg or any high CPU intensive application

This shouldnt happen unless the manufacturer disabled the short max power function where it can go up much higher than 45watt.

This is for example a run on my 6700HQ and as you can see the frequency is perfectly stable. The thermals you see rising is because the fans do not kick in until the end. In a well configured laptops the 6700hq should run very efficiently.

As you can see The Turbo Boost short power max work as intended... But how long can the chips run on higher TDP before it go down to Turbo Boost power Max? Who is 45W.

See... Wprime with [email protected] in Wprime 1024M don't push the processor up to max 45W TDP. Of course you can hold the clock speed.

I tested also the link. It work. Strange. But we are on the web :D As I said to you in previous post... TS 1024M stress test don't push the processor. I maxed a bit over 31W with 6700hq BGA clock speed in 1024M. Even a bad binned BGA shouldn't max out 45W TDP.

    @Papusan

Still no throttling, but the core clock does fluctuate up sometimes to 3.3ghz. So I expect wprime not onstantly using all 4 cores....

Score could be higher if i closed Chrome etc I think.

TERRIBLE SCORE even with something running in the background. Or You have probably put wrong amount of threads. Click advanced settings. Then choose 8 threads and fire up 1024M stress test again.

Haha oops, I had it on 4 threads. since it said logical cores and hyperthreading is not really adding 4 logical cores extra. BUt after runnin 8 threads the score was indeed better. Anyway, no throttling as it should. I believe strongly that if it throttles, the manufacturer screwed up somewhere.

    HaHa :D
I do not know if you've undervolted the processor. Lower core voltage will increase the headroom for prolonged higher clock speed. And yeah, Everything is possible on firmware level. But Turbo boost Power max aka 45W will hit back after the Short power is empty and finished.

Edit. @rinneh Remember Wprime 1024M don't push 45W(My chips hit a bit over 31W in Wprime 1024M with 6700hq clock speed). Aka you have still headrom for higher prolonged clock speed. Run something more demanding like Aida64 stress FPU only, P95 or OCCT and your chips will hit the wall.

@sagarbhathwar: Don't run p95 on BGA chips it'll ruin your cpu so refrain from using it. I might have figured your issue, it is caused by
    1. Uneven contact between CPU and Heatsink
    2. Very high core differential because you've used little or too little paste.
    3. Clean the surface using isopropyl alcohol
    4. Sand the surface of heatsink
You might have to open it yourself and do it on your own to get it fixed. I'm glad you opted for 17" otherwise 15" would have blown into flames.

Dell took in my laptop today and one must hear the one hour argument between me and the supervisor of "Advanced Resolution Group". I will open a separate thread exposing the great technical minds of Dell India. Here are a few, wait for the entire in a separate thread. Absolutely nonsensical talk i've ever heard, that too by such a top guy

    1)
My argument - I am running Aida64 FPU test. Clock speed is 2.4GHz. I expect, at max load, the frequency to be 3.1GHz. This is case of thermal throttling.
His argument - OH! IT IS WORKING FINE! Your background processes is consuming 0.7GHz. So, 2.4GHz + 0.7GHz is 3.1GHz, isn't it?
***ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? How insane is anyone to "add" clock speed. Nevertheless say that some " clockspeed is consumed" by background processes!

    2)
My argument - I run ffmpeg. CPU usage is about 90%. I am getting 2.5GHz. Don't tell me again that there are background processes "silently eating up clock speed"!
His argument - Oh! Again, 90% of 3.1 GHz is 2.79 GHz. You are getting 2.5GHz. You are good
***WHAT IN THE UNIVERSE ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??? I show him Prime95 consuming 100% CPU and clock speed at 2.1GHz. Sir, 100% of 3.1GHz is 3.1GHz. Then why is, your beautiful Aliencrap, giving me 2.1GHz, oh good sire?. He cannot answer my question

    3)
My argument - 100C is too hot. I believe 85C should be the absolute maximum a CPU should reach before the PC shuts down and this, should then be considered as a thermal issue
His argument - * Starts talking about 1000CC Ferrari car running at high temperature without problems *
My argument - You are comparing Combustion engine with Integrated circuit. I don't see any fuel burning inside my laptop and powering it to produce that much heat. It is due to such high temperatures the clock speed is throttling down to below 2.5GHz
His argument - Isn't that a good thing? Your CPU is being prevented from burning out
My argument - But sir, where is the 3.1GHz as advertized? Isn't that what I am supposed to be getting
His argument - You will have to overclock to get that speed. You are running stock speed. 3.1GHz is only the max speed. You will not always get 3.1GHz.
***At this point, I loose my cool at him and stop arguing anymore and nod my head at absolutely horrifying stupidity

    4)
My argument - While playing CS:GO, there is massive FPS drop. * shows video where CPU clockspeed takes a nosedive to 798MHz. But, that happens to be during the time I am almost standing idle*
His argument - You are idle. Nothing is changing on the screen. You CPU went into idle state! That is why clock speeds came down!
My argumet - What? No. Even if I am perfectly idle, the frames are rendered irrespectively. There is a problem with the CPU
He - NO! IT IS WORKING ACCORDING TO DESIGN
    My argument -
*shows a part of video where I am trying to shoot someone but aggravatingly missing due to FPS drop to 40FPS, clock speed is 799MHz* What do you say for this sir?
His argument - Fans would have stopped working. When you suddenly start aiming, CPU usage spikes up and clock speed goes down to protect burn out!!! And your clock speed is back to normal after few seconds(Still throttled down at 2.8GHz, Meh, who cares anymore)
*** I am stunned at his dumbness. He is either a massive idiot or just trying to fool me thinking that I am just another customer. Haha, nice try big boy

Well, he finally agreed to take in the system and 'have it tested at chip level'. Sounds Bogus to me. Still doesn't stop saying "Your system is absolutely fine. You cannot buy a 1000CC vehicle and always expect it to perform at 1000CC ability". Cannot believe he is comparing an Internal Combustion Engine to a microprocessor! he still holds stron to his argument that "it is working according to design". He doesn't take into consideration that thermal throttling is a flaw!!

Dell, is this the kind of people you have for tech support or whatever you want to call it?
    Pathetic, absolutely pathetic!
