power limit of your 1070 is around 120-130w I believe, you are throttling because the gpu isn't allowed more power

pascal throttle is complex, but I believe a hard throttle is around 85-89c but the soft-gradual throttle is at 50c and hotter

Any news about the CPU temps of the new Kaby Lake Units?

I've got the 7820hk+1070. Never goes above 85C even when I have it at 43X on all cores. Haven't tried to push it further or repaste it because I didn't see a need.

Thanks, I figured as much regarding the soft throttle above 50C. As the card starts to heat up you can watch the power limit and frequency graphs go crazy. Is the power limit a hard limit at ~120W or does the card throttle by decreasing this limit by decreasing the voltage to the card once above 50C? Because I definitely see power throttling as low as 105W when the card is toasty.

I meant to say 7820hk (I had a 6820hk before returning it). Below is the 7820hk running at 43X on all cores while running heaven benchmark.

CPU package power around 44W will not push the cooling. Try wPRIME v1.5 RUN IT AS ADMIN and select 8 threads. Then run 1024M stress test with Hwinfo/Hwmonitor in the background for max temp :)

There you go. 7820hk, wprime 1024M stress test at 43x on all cores and a -.050V offset. 84C ;)

    Hello everyone,

I have a 17r4 with the 120hz qhd display. Are you any of you guys experiencing screen flashing off/on randomly while performing benchmarks and playing demanding games? So far its only happening while I benchmark furmark and msi kombustor fury donut. It also flashed once while benchmarking unigine heaven. I have the latest nvidia drivers with a clean install. I need to know if this is a hardware or firmware issue with the card since my return policy at best buy will be ending in 3 days.

I think that is a g-sync issue. Mine does it at times during game loading screen. However, it is pretty rare and the screen flashes almost for a milisecond or something.

Yeah thats what happens to mine its for a split second but its doing it every 5 to 8 seconds and will not stop until I close the benchmark. With it being an g-sync issue does that mean its a hardware fault?

I don't think so. I mean, I've had this laptop for more than a month, and played Overwatch on it for more than a 100 hours, and it never annoyed me or affected me during the game. Only on loading screens. It is possible that the benchmark you're running is conflicting with g-sync technology. How about you try running it after turning g-sync off?

1.0.9 is still availiable on their website though so Its strange that they keep it there if they know that there are issues with it

Would you be able to use a third party photo cloud like imgur? NBR's image uploader is as reliable as tape and oil. (Uh I just made that up lol...totally random.)

Lets hope. Forward progress....please Dell.... get your act together.

Hmm no issues here. Perhaps it could be software related. Have you tried clean installing your graphics driver?

OW...nice...what's your user name? Add me or I'll add you.....I'm on all the time. Well, when I'm not working on a system lol.

Take that with a grain of salt. The bios still being present doesn't mean anything. They are goofs....as we all know.

7700hq temps 76,-82c (averages about 78c) on witcher 3 stock paste, no heat stand or changes to voltage (factory setup). Temps are fine for me, not experienced any power or heat throttling.

    Hi Ryan,
the first time here, sorry for my english, typos, etc...
I have the same issue as you. Randomly the screen turns off (turns black) for a very short time. I've been playing just WoW and Arma2 / Arma3 with DayZ mod. I'm curious what's going on?!
Did some testing, but i was unable to get rid of it. Drivers are up to date.
    My config: AW 17R4 / 6700HQ / 32GB HyperX Fury Impact CL14 / 1070 / QHD / 2x SSD + 1TB HDD / BIOS 1.0.9 ( I tried also 1.0.2, 1.0.8 )

My 17r4 will not let me switch gsync off since it locked to the card
I think the current bios is possibly causing my flashing/flicker issue. I remember performing these benchmarks before new out of the box with an older bios and there wasnt any flicker. A few days after unboxing the laptop it asked me to update the bios through alienwares control panel which I did and now this problem has arised. I also get speaker crackling sounds now everytime I click on something to open a program or while viewing web pages. How hard is it to revert back to an older bios to see if theae problems are eliminated?

What is your cores temp variance? On mine im seeing about 10 to 12 °c difference between cores 0-3 (65-71c) and 1-2 (54-60c). Is that the fet thermal pads causing these differences?

120-130w is the tdp limit when the temp is under control according to nvidia mobile spec

not really sure if aw has decided to throttle it even further (as the case of gtx1080 only 150w instead of 180)

Hey Guys, my laptop with switchable graphics won't enter performance/discrete mode (i.e. fn+f7). Dell confirmed it and escalated my case to engineering and all they could come up with was to reinstall windows haha. Anyone see else something similar?

Thanks for any help. I'd like to try overclocking my refresh rate but can't until I solve this issue.

Sounds good...k so added and friends request sent...

It'd be fun to all team up... now the 3 more that we need to fill the team --> @DeeX is one, @Mobius 1 is two and the third can be @zergslayer69 (killer healer btw). Of course not everyone is on all at the same time so if there is anyone else, speak up so we can create a group and have a pool of team mates at all times as you all know, it is way more fun playing as a team with those that you know rather than strangers... And I'm d.va so no one touch her LOL...mine...jk. :p

Is your system new with kaby lake? I had the same issue, caused by Nvidia drivers that did not include Hardware Id for GTX1070 cards. Nvidia 378.49 resolved the issue for me.

    5c variance between cores.

Anything upto 10c is okay for variance thou. 15c or more not good, may mean uneven heatsink

Hello fellow 17 R4 owners! I just picked mine up two nights ago and this backlight bleed has been annoying me ever since. I realize it's part of the construction of these. . . but should I bother trying my luck at returning for another one or rma'ing? This is the 1080p panel. Thanks!

There is something weird with my 17r4... when I use the earphones and I start a youtube video or anything else, I can hear a swish that stops some second after I stop the video. I can hear it a lot if I disable the volume in the video. Is it normal? Thank you

Yeah, same. I am just worried it will just be replaced and be worse or no different. I have yet to see a 1080p panel 17 r4 without it.
