Thank you for the updates! Are you overclocking the GPU? What software do you use and by how much? I am hitting 190W but haven't overclocked the gpu yet.

Are you looking at GPU Power in HWINFO?

If so, a single run of Time Spy saw a max of 137w on my 1070 ...

    ??

    (I'm using Bios v1.0.8 BTW)

High temps? You mean stock...yea well any laptop running that high with the GPU will run hot, but obviously my system is modded so 61C at 210W, let alone a sustained 180W+ during game and staying at 61C is pretty darn good for this thin laptop. :)

Yes, i saw it in gpu power max value in hwinfo just running batman benchmark (133w exactly). But It often raise between 125w and 135w.
It's stock, no gpu or cpu overclock, just repast with Kryonaut (I Wonder how Iunlock manage to get so "cold" temps, I stay 80 for cpu and 75 for gpu) and latest bios (1.12).

    Interesting....+225Core/+375Mem/119W/60c Max (1.06 Bios/Stock Paste/330W PSU)(Ambient Hawaii Temperature....we do not have A/C).

For a while it wouldn't exceed 114.98W but earlier today running unigine it hit 119W.

Best I've been able to manage ( FireStrike) - 19,546 Graphics Score

    Hi guys,

I'm about to build a three display setup for my AW17, as it has three video outputs (USB-C, display port and HDMI)

Does anybody has a setup like that? I'm thiking about 1440p but I'm not sure if the 1070 will be able to run games with 3 monitors at this resolution.

EDIT: It would be 2 1440p monitors plus the AW 4k display or three 1440p using GA in the future

    Any advice is welcome

Just get a GA and run three DP monitors off the gpu that you add in it.

Are there any details known about the new qhd, at all?

Is it still tn? Someone said it might be ips. Is it the same manufacturer? Is it a screen that can be seen in the wild right now?

I've been waiting so long now for the perfect laptop for me (doesn't exist) but the aw comes close.

:) Yea they are surprisingly well made. Legit OEM product....usually they are cheap knock off's with a badge, but Dell really did do their homework with their accessories.

    It sure is...I agree.

Soon enough....it's nice to have something to look forward to. "Gotta" give Dell credit for that...for addressing the issue. How many companies out there have responded this quickly to change right?

I think what he means is. Due to electrical issues (poor design) they cannot handle putting out more power to the 1070. I mean they already drain their own battery with the 240w psu on bios 1.0.9. And it might not even be related to the psu. Dell has a history of poor power handling regardless of what psu is used.

Too bad cause my 1070 runs cool and gpu z is lit up with pwr cap indicators and the recommended spec is 150w. hwinfo shows above 120w peaks for me but i just don't trust that info. It could be power cycling and hitting really brief peaks. But the graphs are showing cool temps low clockrates and the power cap being hit.

I'm not going to load up a custom vbios either. I did that with my 17 r2 and the thing shorted

    BIOS 1.0.12 Update:

For those running the new vbios and on 1.0.12 ...I've found a bug...

During games there were 4 second freeze/stutters that happened periodically.

At first I had thought there wasn't enough power from the PSU since the GPU is getting fed more juice now, but that was ruled out from the graphs and also the fact that other machines with the same hardware run just fine with the single 330W.

Since I've rolled back to 1.0.8, things are fine now.

So no, it's not the NVIDIA driver, vbios or PSU, instead it is bios 1.0.12 that is the culprit.

Yup! Same thing happened here. It was also throwing my temps all over the place and was messing with my CPU overclock. Rolled back to the older Bios made it back to normal. Now it's time too see what we can do with the unleashed 1080 :D

...is the vBIOS supported by any other BIOS besides 1.0.12 ?

Man, I have been in a cautiously-hesitant, if-it-ain't broke-...mode hanging on to BIOS S1.0.9 that was used, tuned, and profiled, tduring my heavenly, LHz-IUNLOCKED aftermarket rebuild and despite your concerning discovery(ies) with this specific BIOS. I have resisted, hopefully not carelessly-so, from switching around until A NEW STABLE BIOS UPDATE CAN BE RELEASED BY THESE TURKEYS AT AW. I certainly hope my days aren't numbered with 1.0.9...

Long story short- am I being a fool @iunlock from your perspective in going back to a BIOS that pre-dated your work on my unit ? ...or can I stick it out until AW GETS THEIR $#$% TOGETHER OVER THERE ?

    ...I'll stop yelling now.

Surprisingly, I got the Vindicator 2.0 Briefcase in today ... *way* earlier than the Dell order site said I would ... and it rocks.

I had a bit of "bag shock" as I tried to get my mind around how I could fit everything I typically carry in my Slappa bag in to the Vindicator since the Slappa bag is so much bulkier ... but after a bit of study, I got it suss'd ... truth is, the Slappa bag and the Vindicator have pretty much precisely the same space/config possibilities but the Vindicator bag just does it so much more elegantly ... not nearly as "bulbous"/bulky as the Slappa bag ...

Thanks again for the tips ...

So whats the deal with upgrading to this new 1080 bios. Im on 1.09 right now, but im confused on how it works. Do i need to upgrade to the newest bios to use it? or can i install it into 1.09? If i do need to upgrade to the newest one can i install the 1080 bios then revert back to 1.09 and keep everything in tact?

I think you anwered my question i just asked above. So we need to upgrade to the newest bios to install the 1080 bios. Then we can revert back and everything will be fine? Im on 1.09 right now. Do you recommend 1.08 for a certain reason over it? Anything i need to know about going back? Ive never gone back, just gone forward. lol

Just wow. Waited almost a month for my 17 R4 UHD 1070 to arrive and now doing RMA on Monday.
    1. Horrible light bleed on the panel
    2. Hynix cheap SSD, which doing 400 mb/s against samsung 960 doing 2200
    3. Small speckle on top left corner only visible on black background.

My unit was on engineering hold for 2 weeks to deal with so called Bezel and LCD problems.
Seems like Alienware is going backwards...

    I'm relieved I wasn't the only one...
Spent a crappy night/day yesterday, benching and testing, and having BSODs again and again. Temps went wild too... 1.0.12 would not tolerate any CPU OC. Had to force shut down every damn time .

Reverted to 1.0.8 in the afternoon (and praying I didn't brick my rig) and now everything seems fine.

Light bleed is inevitable and just a luck of the draw thing. No way around it. Sucks, but I hope you get it worked out.

As for the SKHynix, not sure what's going on there, but SKHynix is not cheap. It's one of the top memory quality out there next to Samsung. What model is your m.2? Can you take a pic of it?

All my SKHynix sticks have stellar speeds.

...you would receive this *****in', polished R4 pushing 4.4 at 31C like mine and start arm-waving that one of the reasons for buying it was to heat your house; it goes on and on and on and...

Latest bios and vbios works fine for me. Yes the latest bios does tend to increase cpu temp, so be prepared to do a proper repaste.

Latest vbios is just awesome. Period.

My max CPU overclocked temps underload were in the low 70s and with the latest bios was in the low 80s. I really recommend going with bios 1.08.

Does anyone have any idea when Kaby Lake will be available in the UK?

At the moment only the 1060 is available and the sales guys I've spoken to have no idea.

I am happy for you that your Alienware is perfect.
