As of right now it's a one way street so that's a call that you're going to have to make.

I'd hold off for a bit until we have a way to flash back.

But it was the connectors on the cards that were breaking off, not the tips.
I don't want my connectors more rugged and durable. I want them softer and easier on the wifi card connectors. ;)

The connectors on the old wires were softer around the base clamp part, while being snug around the ring that caused it to lift up the WiFi cards pin/soldered plate.

Tried to get in the region of >24k graphics score like iunlock.
Bios 1.08, oc vbios, perfromance cpu and fan profile activated in bios. Undervolted cpu by 150mV with intel extreme tuning utility, no cpu OC, GPU is at +200 MHz, no repaste yet.

    ... no chance. I don´t know how you do this @iunlock ;-)

btw, I don´t care about physics score, for me it´s all about graphics.

    Observations:
    1. 1080 uses about 200W, no problems with pch temps so far.
    2. Performance fan profile spins both fans at 4500 rpm. The sound at max is quieter than on my Clevo P870DM3 when at medium workload and has very good psychoacoustic quality, no whining, no vibrations. These sunon maglev fans in the 17R4 seem to be of top quality.
    3. Cooling especially of the GPU seems to be very efficient, unbelievable effiicient when looking at the thinness of the fans, can´t wait to repaste.
    4. The look, feel and noise characteristic is another dimension compared to P870DM3, sorry to have to say this...quite happy so far with the unit
    5. ...but wait, ohh crap, it´s BGA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is there any point to overclock the core on the gtx 1070? It seems to go up to 1900mhz stock and it is already at its power limit, if I overclock it will go to 2000mhz but only for a sec due to the power limit which is around 130w

Say something nice for once. :p This is a big deal for a mobile CPU... it wasn't too long ago when we were happy with getting 46x on the 6700K and considering that an OC.

Therefore, give it some credit for what it is as these new mobile 7820HK chips, in ratio, is much better than the previous 6820HK, in respect to the desktop counterparts.

It doesn't hurt to recognize accomplishments; it doesn't mean you have to like whatever it is....

BTW, here it is. :) 4.6GHz achieved.

You know me and BGA :D And I had no interest for 46x Those who went 4.6Ghz was not very interested in Benchmarks.
Yes see there. You just had to have a kick in the ass :D @Pete Light might compete with you. He talked about it for over a week ago. But since, only silence

What I had meant was that we don't have to like something to recognize its achievements. :)

This is also not a competition, but to show that the 7820HK can achieve 4.6GHz is a pretty big deal for the mobile chip.

As always....all in good fun and....someone has to do it right? bga or not... :p Whether it's me or anyone else, it's always nice to see new records.

Oh and you know this very well in that, points are points on hwbot.

papu is kinda right though previous mobile XM chips are on par with desktop chips, they're much better binned than the HK chips by a large margin

Well to be fair, the context of that and comparison of him mentioning that is completely irrelevant to what's at hand here.

I was saying that not too long ago, we were trying to get 46x to stick on the 6700K and for those that were able to, it was considered an accomplishment, big or small, as some 6700K's at that time couldn't' even hold 46x steady.

So now for a mobile chip to reach 46x... whether we like the chip or not, it is still an accomplishment for it being a mobile chip.

The margin between the mobile and desktop skylake's are much wider than the better binned (again for what it is) kaby lakes. ie... there's more head room with the new Kaby's.

Did heaven stress test for 1h right now: gpu overclocked by 200MHz with oc vbios flashed, g-sync and v-sync disabled
    Max Temps are:
90C cpu (undervolted by -150mV, everything else is stock)
    80C GPU
    80C PCH

No problems, no stuttering, friesrtike bench at the beginning: 1690 and after 1h 1674, so very small amount of thermal throttling.

I know cpu needs re-paste. But is PCH temp as it is ok?

I can try to take some pictures of the vindicator here shortly before I take it back to best buy. It fits the laptop fine, but it wasn't as comfortable to carry for me and the Titan had some usability options the vindicator was lacking. For my overall use the titan is a better fit.

That Everki bag looks super sweet ...

Personally, I've been using the Vindicator Briefcase with my aW17 for a month or so and I totally love it. Suits my needs perfectly. Really nice bag, the Vindicator ... not as bulky/cumbersome as my previous Slappa Kiken and much more "business" looking ... I really like the semi hard external panels on the Vindicator too ... curious to see how it will hold up over time ...

Agreed the Everki looks very cool but a bit too much to spend based on my limited use case, especially when the Vindicator 2.0 is 1/2 the price at $79. + My 17 is such a tank ... add the AC adapter and to be honest I will LIMIT the time that this TANK needs to be taken outside of my home. I'm assuming the Vindicator 2.0- will hold up well enough. If I was taking the 17 out on a daily basis then first I'd question my sanity but 2nd if i for some reason had to carry it daily/weekly then perhaps I'd look into something a bit more robust.

Hello! I want to buy a new 17x (7700HQ, IPS, NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 1070, Intel HD Graphics 630) and set up Hackintosh as a secondary OS, I need it for work. People says that with 7 series processors all notebooks go with g-sync, and because of that Intel HD videocard is not working. Is there any way to make it working in Hackintosh? I really want this laptop, and I do not want to buy an additional Mac laptop. I already have a big mess on my workspace and I want to buy one laptop for all my needs. I already have a desktop with Windows and Hackintosh and it works good. Now I need the same but with laptop. Thanks!

Jus got my AW17R4 replacement with the 7820-HK CPU, 1080 GPU, 1TB SSD, 1TB HDD, 32GB ram...
Below are some of the specs, and initial experience so far... Anything look off? Any suggestions?

My Kaby system went a whole 4 seconds before Core #0 went above 85°... Of course, that's stock, right out of the box...

    upload_2017-4-3_10-18-19.png

    LiteON SSD Information & Benchmark

    upload_2017-4-3_10-18-37.png

Being a "new" system right out of the box, should the battery already have a "wear level" of 2.4%?

    upload_2017-4-3_10-19-8.png

I bumped up the OCCT max temp to 95° and let it run for a few mins... Should the temps at Max range from 97° to 78°?

    upload_2017-4-3_10-19-33.png

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated... I plan on doing the LM to get rid of whatever is passing for paste that Dell is using now...

Is @iunlock guide for the pad replacement still valid on the Kaby system? I've got vacation coming up in a couple weeks and would like to order parts so they'll be here when I have time to play..

    Thank you for your help,
    CP

Just got off of the phone with tech support, about my 80c+ SSD. There going to send a tech out and replace it with a samsung one instead since ive received two toshiba ones so far and have had nothing but issues with them.

Both of my units are locked at 160 watts for the 1080 GPU. It this something that Dell will address?

No it will either hit power or voltage limit. Both are locked. Also i would not try to get around them. I did that with a 17 r2 980m and it fried pretty fast (the whole computer) once i turned it up enough. I dont think all of these systems are stable electronically and there are some indications to that being the case. This is probably why the lower power limits are in place for the 1070.

Quick update - contacted tech support who updated the vbios. I did note realize this update was on the Dell site. GPU now running at 200 watts. Firestrike graphics score went up to 23418 from around 22250 with the power increase. GPU is overclocked 200 core and 200 mem. Running CPU at stock.

My New 17R4 out of the box was less than 1% battery wear. Not sure I'd worry about it being 2+% though.
