New Kaby Lake 17R4 (this is a fresh 2nd unit, 2 of 2), fresh out of the box running wPrime full run (this was taking during the run)...

As you can see the core differentials are good..

Of course this is gimped mode, but technically this being, "stock," the improvements with the crazy differentials are evident, although some are still getting wacko units...

    For what it's worth...

Now let's unlock this and see how it does under full load and un-gimped...

    Update:

    Just ran Fire Strike...GPU hit 205W ...

Did you DDU before installing the new drivers?

It's very important to use DDU in order to ensure a squeaky clean installation of the new driver...

Not the first time, just did a clean install. But the 2nd and 3rd time i did. I just want to bench the 7820hk but cant figure out how to turn off gsync without the control panel.

Oh ok...hmmm yea that is quite strange. I did have this issue once before, just trying to think how I got it back.

Did you try installing the latest NVIDIA driver?

EDIT: Scratch that for some reason it decided to come back after my 5th attempt. Idk why but every time i have an issue with something then ask for help online i immediately solve it. lol

This is what im looking at so far with prime with everything at the default settings. Ran the tests like you asked, just didnt bother with the max fan setting part.

Doesnt look to bad considering my 6820hk arrived with 25c+ core differentials and temps in the 90's. Glad the replacement is doing alot better. Now its time to overclock her and see what she can do.

That's really good temps for bone stock.

Also, your excellent core differentials (minimum) support my results as well in that most of these units are much better than the skylakes out of the box.

    Attention:

WHAT IS YOUR GPU POWER LIMIT ON YOUR NEW 17R4 KABY?

My 17R4 Kaby #1, GPU power limit is ~160w... (Regular Fire Strike run)

While my 17R4 Kaby #2, GPU power limit is hitting over 200W+.... (Regular Fire Strike run)

Can you guys with the new Kaby 17 please report your GPU power limit?

    Thanks

Yeah they definitely seem better. The highs break up a bit during gaming/benching once the GPU is thrown into the mix but i need to test it more. Right now im seeing about a 6-8 degree core difference in the highs, but the average temps are staying right next to each other. So im happy with that.

K some of the new units are being shipped out with the original vbios and some with the new vbios.

I've confirmed a lot of this with other owners as well. BTW thanks for the PM guys for those who've answered back quickly.

Mine came with 1.0.5 as well.

Could you post a screen shot of the hwinfo64 after a Fire Strike run, making sure that it shows the GPU power limit? That would be great as I'm collecting data right now on the new Kaby systems to log this.

    Thanks

    Hey guys.

    I got 2 questions.

    1) anyone know how to get the free copy of wildlands?
    2) my killer wifi card keeps dropping/disconnecting while trying to dl games from steam on my new machine. It only does this when I'm dling the games I can surf and use the system no problem otherwise.

    Any suggestions?

    Preliminary Run.

Just broke 19K in Fire Strike with the new 17R4!

    * This is a big statement, because as some of you know I'm going after all the records set by the Asus G701VI (Kaby w/ GTX 1080).

@iunlock How are you getting scores so high. I received my 17r4 few hours ago and the highest ive been able to get in firestrike is 17k. My highest GPU Power is showing about 200w.
This is at x45 with gpu core at 200.

Another confirmation that most of the new units are much improved with temps and core differentials, stock.

You're very welcome as well...my pleasure.

Could you post a screen shot showing your Fire Strike run .... (particularly the GPU package power.)

    Thanks!

Congrats on your new machine. You have to tune your machine and it looks like your CPU is dipping. It takes a lot of time and patience, but it is rewarding once you find the sweet spot of where your silicons like to cruise at. Remember, not all silicon are created equal so it's not a one size fits all deal. Oh and it's also not about overclocking a lot. Be careful with that as well as it is very possible to burn out your GPU. I've seen it happen many times.

Try it on 1.0.5 and work your way up.

1.0.5 seems to be holding pretty well for me.

By the way, my 2nd 17R4 came stock with the new vbios, I did not flash it.

So my 17R4 Kaby #1 came on the older vbios and my 17R4 #2 Kaby came on the newer vbios.

So so far so good with my 7820hk, its performing much better than my 6820hk ever did.

Just stressed it out at 4.1ghz for about 20 minutes and saw max temps of 80,75,80,76 on the cpu. Not to bad considering those were the temps i was seeing with my repasted 6820hk at about 4.0. Along with the fact that my 6820hk before a repaste was seeing 99c at 3.8.

My GPU seems to be hanging around 57c with +200 on the core. Which is actually a few degrees colder than my previous r4 too.

Also the new QHD screen is a night and day difference from the old one. No lines and the colors seem cripser and idk if its just in my head but the viewing angles are great for a TN. I almost thought it was a IPS screen for a second when i first saw it. Im actually debating on keeping it in there instead of swapping it out for the 4K screen i bought for my old r4.

I do need to watch my SSD temps though. Im going to open up in a bit to see if they put a heatsink on it, if not im going to request one. Ive seen it go up to 72c which is pretty damn warm for a SSD. Wish i got the Samsung one, but says i got toshiba. Im curious to hear anyone elses SSD temps.

No problem, here you go (I think this is what you are asking for). I am on 1.0.5 vbios 86.04.5B.00.8F (latest as far as I know) for your notes. Any benefit or harm really in updating to see if that impacts anything? I am also still bone stock on everything.

I would also like to add, my first run was only 15001 then I updated the graphics driver - so I guess that isn't "Bone stock" as far as installations go.

I dont have an answer to number 1 but if you figure it out let me know.

My wifi was doing the same thing too. What i did to fix it was just go into add/remove programs and remove the killer suite and killer drivers. You will loose wifi for a second, then it will come back. Havent had it disconnect since and my speeds werent effected at all.

Yeah, the new display is a real step forward, less 'bluishness', much better yield of colours. I'm lucky to get samsung SSD (512gb) as well, max temp it had was 42.

Though some core temps has difference up to 10 degrees.. But anyway it should be repasted and modded. As obviously, Dell is not going to change their tripod heatsink in R4.. and for me it's not a big deal, overall build quality is great. So, this problem is simply disolves in its pros at the end.

Can you do me a favor? Can you install crystal disk and test the SSD speeds for me and take a screenshot?

I just tested mine and the speeds seem aweful low, not to mention according to HWinfo the temp went up to 82c. Im going to have to call dell, but i would love to have something to compare it too. Thank you if you can do that.

Here are the photos from the Titan. I Havent tried the coolbell as someone else suggested, but between the vindicator and titan. I find the titan more comfortable and it is one I will be keeping. Here is a couple images with it inside the bag. Everki would still win for me over the coolbell because its checkpoint friendly.

Very true, if you need checkpoint friendly - the Cool Bell is not. I also tried the vindicator and it just didn't hold enough things in an orderly fashion for me compared to the other options. OCD.
