Maybe my next PCs will be optimised by Hidevolution. Even SSD rates are close to Amazon and little cheaper. After 3-4 years, I'm definitely buying from them with metal paste treatment. Maybe I would apply LM in near future

) and I get your point, It would hurt us if Dell were using more / better options but probably as many AW owners I pulled the trigger just because they had the best deal available by the time I bought my system, anyone looking for more customization will go for another brand / reseller just like you.

Many options available everywhere. Just remember Support is one of the keys things. Find a boutique that will handle warranty and stand behind a machine you choose. Having first hand dealing with Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Lenovo and Dell I can tell you NOBODY has support as good as Dell. If you have your head on your shoulders and act like an adult when you call you generally get good service. The onsite warranty options are bar none the best in the industry. Good luck mailing your system in to any other manufacturer. HIDevolution support for me was extremely good. You pay for it though. Their system prices with premium products demands a premium price. I have not had to mail in a system to them but have heard good things about that as well. Phone support is good. If you've ever wanted to band your head on the wall and claim insanity try calling Asus or Gigabyte....

with the constant 10% cashback from ebates in addition to whatever u can get from the rep (10-20%) it is very hard to beat dell's price. If you don't like their SSD just sell it on ebay and buy urself a 960 PRO problem solved

Buying a barebones machine from hidevolution will always be more expensive than buying from Dell with basic ram/ssd option.
My point is not having more option from the seller, you should ALWAYS buy ssd/ram extra aftermarket. HID charges close to MSRP on the drives that you can similarly get from deals online and easily install yourself.

Need a little help and advice guys. New to this forum and new to the PC gaming world, I have always been a PS gamer but always wanted to switch over so I finally pulled the trigger. That being said I just ordered an Alienware 17R4 and would like some quick advice on what the first few things I should or need to purchase for it to start gaming. Controller, keypad, mouse, headset... or anything at all since I am new to PC gaming. Thanks in advance.

There's not a whole lot to worry about really ... just make sure your current on all your drivers ...
If your going to be playing on the laptop by itself (no external monitor, etc.) ... and if your comfortable with the laptop keyboard ... then just get a decent mouse (you don't have to spend a ton) ... and then get used to using the keyboard/mouse as your primary game controller.
On the other hand ... if you *have* to use a controller ... then the standard PC Xbox controller will work fine. But being honest? If you get used to and master the use of a keyboard/mouse then you will consistently PWN any other gamer that uses a controller. It's just physics ... keyboard/mouse > controller ...
As far as headsets are concerned? I never use a mic as I don't like talking during game and much prefer typing but just google gaming headsets and do your research if you want a headset/mic arrangement.
Congrats on the purchase mate ...
Welcome.

I use it every day on the wrist wrest of my AW17 ... works like a magic trick and causes zero damage. Just the right amount of grease/print cutting power and generally just takes one good spray and a wipe down with a paper towel or soft cloth.
In fact, I clean the entire laptop with it every week ...
I am only the messenger ...

Also I was looking into getting the Xbox controller just as a secondary because I'm use to using a controller. But your saying to learn to play off the keyboard?
Last I will most likely play on the laptop with no external screen but was also thinking about getting the HDMI cable and being able to connect the laptop to my tv screen just to play. Is that able to be done? -

Most of these issues aren't well known outside this community and if they are it is from one of our community members. Those YouTube guys live in their own bubble and don't care much for the tech community around them. I haven't seen any laptop review on YouTube from one of the "big guys" that reports on core temp differential. That's one of the first gaming laptop reviews I've seen that Linus actually benchmarks games. He did a few gaming laptop reviews and never mentioned game performance. He's more concerned about how thin and light they are. Complains it's sooo so heavy. Maybe he should spend sometime outside playing and building a little muscle.

But I still liked to see the 17R4, specially because they also did a video on the 13 and 15 so it's a nice comparison from the same source, even if it's only skin deep. -
Regarding controller: If your accustomed to using a controller then by all means get a good controller and go to town man. ;-) But also consider learning to use a keyboard and mouse as I think anybody who does any serious gaming will agree that, generally, a good keyboard/mouse player will dominate a controller player ... you just get a much more refined control mechanism when using a keyboard and mouse.
Regarding HDMI to TV: Absolutely. You can run out to your TV via HDMI ....
Enjoy the laptop man.

So regarding the driver, is that something I just keep going to that link you posted and update my current one if need be?Or is that something I would have to buy and swap out? -
So it's really just up to you. I, for instance, have been on driver version 378.66 for a good while and feel no need to update to the very latest (382.??) ... simply because my rig is running fine and all my games are running great.
Hope that helps.

Could anyone direct me to information regarding panel replacement. I currently have the FHD panel and wanted to look and see if I could upgrade to a higher res and refresh rate panel.

Hi,
The heatsink has 7 screws numbered from 1 to 7. I assume that it has to be adjusted in that order. My question is, should I adjust them to the maximum one by one or do it in two passes? First, place all the screws without tightening them to the maximum (following the order of the numbers) and then, in a second pass, adjust them to the maximum pressure. Do you understand what I say? Does anyone know the "torque" I should give to heatsink screws?

Sorry i did not understand what you said -
Simply put, screws n° 2, 3, 6 and 4 should be tightened first. The past will be pressed in n°7, 5, 1's direction and fill the gap.
Then, n°7, 5, 1 should be tightened at last, in this order and in one pass, to avoid their side to be lifted when tightening the other screws. -

-First, screws n ° 2, 3, 6 and 4 full tightened in one pass.
-Then screws n ° 7, 5 and 1 should be fully tightened to last and in this order.
Easy... jeje (Sorry, English is not my first language)
note: In my previous 17r4 I tightened the screws in order 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 and worked well without air gaps. It was lucky?Last edited: Jun 26, 2017 -

The only thing I do not know, is what torque to use on the bolts. I think I'll use the same on all the screws.
