Apologies if this has already been answered somewhere else, I've searched the forum and haven't found any answers.

Has anyone gotten the r4 17" to work with the light show winamp plugin? I've tried using the LED Testers program, but it never responds. I know the hardware ID is 0530, and the tester allows me to keep going with the testing, but none of the LEDs respond. And yes, I do have enable 3rd party access in the command center enabled. Thanks in advance...

You mean gtx1080? I'm not aware of a 1080ti option for notebooks.

still over priced, got my 7820 gtx1080 16gb, 248gb ssd 1tb hdd for $2000 on dell outlet and 15% cash back from ebates, so after tax it was $1900 total. And if you call for a return for whatever reason the CS will give you another $100 to $200 off depending on your SE skill.

Bought an i7 7820hk, GTX 1080, 16gb ram, QHD 120hz, 1tb hdd off Dell outlet last week after finding a 20% off code on the net (can't think which site l found it on) cost me £1662 inc VAT and delivery. Should have been delivered Monday 3rd July then Syncreon sent an email saying it wouldn't be delivered until Tuesday 4th July between 8am & 6pm so l stopped in all day waiting for it to arrive and nothing, no email, nothing so, l contacted the very helpful Dell rep who had been dealing with a query l had about the system and complained saying it was totally unacceptable to expect a customer to stay in all day, especially when other carriers give an hour timeslot, and then not to turn up. She apologised profusely and refunded me 10% off the total price so all in all it's cost me £1500.
The laptop arrived the next morning at about 9.30

looks like it is a time to buy. finally I also decided to go. on the dell website I choose
    7820hk
    8gb ram
    1080
    IPS
    1tb drive
    windows pro
    and additionally on amazon: 2 x samsung 960 pro 512gb, 2 x Kingston HyperX 32GB 2666MHz, Intel 8265.

Still not sure how to install properly 960 pro in the raid0 configuration. should it be clone of the original 1tb hard drive or clean windows install + reinstallation of the dell utilities. maybe somebody could provide proper link or share his own experience

Hello, on my 17 r4, when I try to open the laptop from closed lid position, the first few degrees of rotation at the hinge seems to have no resistance. After rotating some degrees, I experience resistance. Is this normal or did the dell repair messed it up?

    Thanks.

    Ask them for a discount.

But I would wait a little bit, new model gets released around august September October. So if you are getting it now.... you will end up feeling screwed.

So I purchased an Alienware 17 R4 the other day, and I must confess, it's been a long time since I really and truly enjoyed using a gaming laptop. The size is good for a desktop replacement, and it stays cool (unlike from some I hear). Unfortunately, the IPS glow is severe, and noticeable while watching Netflix, and while playing games. I'm taking it back tomorrow.

My question is. . . should I try my luck at swapping for another IPS display (I prefer IPS for the colors, and viewing angles), or should I go for the TN 120hz panel? I don't care about the refresh rate so much as the quality of the display, but I just don't want to get more IPS glow/backlight bleed. I'm worried about the horizontal line issue on the displays. Has this been fixed? I'm purchasing the Kaby Lake unit w/ 1070 from a local Best Buy.

    lines have been fixed.

you can keep playing the IPS lottery or just get the TN.

Thanks. I'll probably just get the TN then. I'm so sick of IPS displays. Every one I get, on any machine, seems to have terrible glow problems.

if you want the best deal you have to be patient, hunt around dell outlet, deal websites, wait for ebates go back to 15%. Or you can just pay the full MSRP you posted and get the laptop in a few days.

In addition to all of that..
There are also reps out there that can give you max discount. (limited by internal Dell policies and pricing).
You just need to find the reps. :)
I had some in the past but they are gone so just need to find some more.
    Just takes patience and persistence.

Hi! Anyone know the standard size (or model) of the laptop heat sink screws Alienware 17r4? Where can I buy them? I am seriously considering trying a repaste (this time with 11Wmk pads), but I am not confident that that tiny black screw on the heatsink would survive another tear down...

Thanks in advance for any help!

So I got the TN model today, and got it home, calibrated, then started using it. I must say, I'm very impressed. Anyone trying to decide between the two, get the TN! No backlight bleed, colors look great after calibration, and viewing angles are so good, I had to confirm it wasn't IPS.

The IPS AU Optronics 4k display it brings now is very good too. (Better than Sharp). After calibrating (i use calman) it I was left with DeltaE 0.3 in Grayscale Avg Error and DeltaE of 0.2 in ColorChecker Avg Error. Very impressive. Nor do they bring backlight bleed, it is the frame that squeezes the display.

Yeah, I was using the 1080P display from AUO, and it was pretty bad.

An unrelated question: does the GTX 1080 still suffer thermal issues in the 17 r4?

Oh'well Click profile 1, 2. 3, same as in bios. But what changes can be done in add profile? Can you show the settings? And Dell still don't let you by yourself put your own fan profile. What with forced max fans with macro ot key combo?

What will happen if yoo turn of all OC profiles in bios? Or even lower the clocks for profile 1 in bios and then try the OC app in ACC?
