I played fc5 as you said with max settings and also 4K
Undervolting -140 at 4.1ghz
Average temps are about 80 and peaks over 85. gpu 80. but ok I think.
At 4.3 average 85 peaks over 93 same uv. Gpu 78
No problems with stuttering. And I don’t done a repaste yet! Everything is original.
Without any undervolting and no oc or limit the frequency my temps increase to thermal throttle. Average about 90 and peaks at 100. terrible.
But you wrote you cannot play the game at 4K and ultra settings without stuttering. I never have had it!! In no case i tried.
In the moment I play fc5 with -140mv and 3.1ghz just to keep temps down bevor I will make repaste. Ultra settings and 4K. No problems anyway.
Average temps 70 max at 73-75 and gpu at 70. really good. But it is not a possibility for me for the future.
What did you guys said about max temps for cpu gpu and pch?
Cpu: about 80-85 would be fine?
Gpu max 80?
Pch? I have no idea. Same than cpu? In fc5 it is about 70-80 average

@ l4k3rkb
So I got my computer back from the depot..
The repair depot is computer hell.
I don’t know what they did or how they managed to do it, but the entire thing is bricked and I couldn’t save it. BSOD on startup every single time, no exceptions. What’s more, whenever I turn it on the thing smells like it’s on fire. I have no idea.
Well, on to the next replacement I guess. :/
Here’s hoping 3 is my lucky number.Last edited: Sep 1, 2018 -

Your -140 UV causes temp drops of about 14 degrees, so the temps you report are normal and expected. I was talking about temps without UV. Then depending on the most stable UV, you can get lower temps. With LM repaste and only -100mV, I was getting average temps within 70s or lower with GPU cores reaching 4.8GHz and peaks below thermal limit (93C). If I had a stable -140mV (which I do not have at high CPU frequencies), average temps would be about 4 degrees lower.
By the way, when I receive my new system, I am not going to change the pads. I am only going to re-paste. And I am not going to use LM again, but a good thermal paste, probably gelid thermal paste or MX-4 thermal paste. I hope the new system will have a better CPU VID though and I will be able to have a lower stable UV. This is because with LM, I feel like I cannot move the laptop because LM may spread to unwanted areas (despite the thermal tape covers), giving me a big feeling of insecurity.Last edited: Sep 1, 2018 -

I have no idea what the smell of fire you are talking about is coming from. -
@Aristotelhs2060
I’ll give what you said a try, but basically whenever I turn it on, it boots up and gives me “Diagnosing your PC..” followed by “Attempting Repairs..” which is unsuccessful. And then comes the blue screen.

If you smell electrical fire though you are probably just better off calling back support and asking for another replacement or a refund. -
Temps without uv and oc are terrible. But I can play the game on ultra settings without any problems. Iam only scared about the high temps about 90average as i wrote bevor.
But what are the max temps? What do you guys think?

Gpu max 80?
Pch? I have no idea. Same than cpu? In fc5 it is about 70-80 average -

Does anyone know if it’s possible to set your own sound settings like on the r4, to get decent bass? The pre set settings in the new command centre are inferior on the r5 as there’s less bass.

Copy this EQ http://forum.notebookreview.com/posts/10757258/, in Command Center go to fusion then the speaker icon then equalizer. The feature wasn't removed, just moved. I can see it's actually the same exact audio backend because Nahimic files are in AWCC's program files, it just seems to be an updated version. -

Anyone had any experience with a replacement machine being quality assured?
Given I'm on my 5th laptop.. They told me it will get white glove treatment and quality analysis before being sent out.... Do they test the thermals and heatsink is balanced ... Or is it bs -
Hi. Does any one know if the stock 1080p IPS display panel overclockable pass 60hz?? Kinda suck to have a 60hz panel with a gtx1080.
I am really reluctant to buy the 1440p though mainly because it's TN eventhough it has higher refresh rate which I really enjoy, how is the image quality (gamuts, contrast, brightness) compare to the IPS 60hz.
Does the 4k panel overclockable pass 60hz?
Tks. -

They still prefer to pay for replacements and/Or repairs rather than testing them. Let them be. I wonder if this has to do with absence of such quality controls in manufacturers premises. -

I do not believe the 4k AUO (Gsync) or Sharp (Non-Gsync) can overclock much if at all.
The image quality on the QHD TN is a little worse than the FHD or 4k. The gamut is not as wide, and I noticed banding while using it. The black level isn't as good as the 4k or FHD, leading to lower contrast ratio which does not help. This is part of the reason why I installed the Chimei N173HHE-G32 in my 17R4. It has better gamut and contrast, along with even better response times than the QHD TN. The only thing that it is not as good as is the brightness level.raz8020 likes this. -

"We understand your current position and confirm that we will take all actions required for this PC to go through a "white glove" test while at our depot. We will submit the DPS including all the pictures you sent us and clearly stating that the whole PC should be reviewed before being sent back to you by our Alienware L3 tech at the depot. We wish to avoid any legal actions.
We understand your frustration. That is why we are working towards a solution for you. The white glove means that we will have our L3 do a thorough check and make sure the PC is pristine.
We hear you. We will add all those notes and pictures to the escalation that will be sent to our depot personnel for them to make sure the PC is as new when it leaves our facilities. Including, of course, the thermals. Our management team, along with the depot L3s will make sure the PC gets back to you in better shape than it currently is. Never worse. We will request pictures of the PC before it is shipped back. That way, we'll make sure we have full control over what is done at the depot. We know this has been said many times already, but we truly are sorry for the inconveniences you've had to go through with the techs we've sent in the past. We want to make it right for you, and we'll continue aiming to that until we achieve a final satisfactory resolution."

This isn't in the UK is it?
I got....
We would like to update you that your system was requested for a white glove treatment before it was shipped to UK for delivery.
As off today the quality analysis has been completed and the system is yet to be handed over to the carrier.
Let's see if they can lose 3 laptops in a row!
The worst bit is.. On one of them. They told me a storm had hit the depot and it had flooded. The laptop was damaged. I was annoyed as I was standing outside at the time and it was bright and sunny...
Then 2 hours later. The laptop wasn't damaged and might come today... So stay indoors and wait.
At the end of the day... Actually... We can't find it. We'll have to order another!
On my existing one... I get this... And it's after a heatsink change. I don't understand why it's throttling on lower temps then the max tj -

Would anyone else mind checking to ensure their system gives the additional options in their command centre under fusion
Just to claryify you are using the r5 and not the r4 with the new command centre ?Last edited: Sep 5, 2018 -

Try reinstall Alienware command center, using repair option.

@captn.ko you had a nice running system. Did you walk in to the TDP lock ? And what bios are/where you using.
Are your temps still low, or has it start to creep slowly. -
so i got my R5 in the mail today. Did a quick benchmark on 4.4 all core's and i seem to have a good unit. this is on stock paste, LM should be done my tonight or tommorow.
the spread seems nice, and within the 5C range so it's not neccesary to repaste. I've generated with this run a 94 watts of heat alone, so i think i'll wait till the paste is dry.
i'm still skeptical up to this point, but happy that it's not ****show 2.0 after sitting without a laptop for more then a month.
@Papusan if you have anything i should test or a setting i should apply (to see how well this chip holds itself) i'll gladly test them out to see how it performs.
i've done this with a 125Mv undervolt. but cpu says nothing so i'll be testing the cpu/gpu heavily.Attached Files:

I got my replacement. The good news: CPU VID looks better and also came with a PM981. The bad news: Of course, I have to use a third party heatsink with the SSD or it gets really hot. I did not have time to test temps yet but the CPU reaches 4.98GHz easily (unlike my previous CPU, maybe because of better CPU VID? I am testing with OC2 profile without UV for the time being.
It came with bios 1.2.1. I saw they released a new bios version 1.5. Anyone tried? I have bad experience from bios implemented changes but bios 1.2.1 was crap anyways on my previous machine. They say new bios 1.5 fixes a lot of things in addition to fan performance -

Can you run cinebench? Post your CB scores.Rei Fukai likes this. -
pretty hot, but nice for Dell Toothpaste it did not hold the clocks for a full 15 minutes, maybe overall it dipped for 5 seconds in the whole test. Probably can shave off a few mv to save temperature.

and the last three. it was done on static voltage 1.2v with a -100mv undervolt. i had a few programs open in the background, so will try to boot in safe mode with a few benchmarking programs to see how it improves my score. i suspect that tobii (and other windows crap) takes alot of cpu cycles away from the benchmark programs

some more, cinebench score do seem a little low for 4.3 all core, but i haven't really tweaked it yet. Voltage seems very nice for 4.3. this was with speedshift enabled and speedstep disabled (lowered my voltage considerably.)

I just run my first benhmark on my new system. I do not think I misunderstood something, but I think something has changed.
https://imgur.com/a/bqZh1DL
Indepedently of the temps (thermal limit is set to only 85C), just have a look at my stable UV of -211.9mV for both CPU core and CPU cache!!!!! On the screenshot, you can see it reached 90W with default thermal paste! On higher frequencies, I have seen it reaching 98W before stopped from thermal limit. I can only guess what it can do with a repaste with LM (I could reach 110W on my previous system with LM but CPU did not UV more than -140mV) or a good thermal paste.
But, should I repaste it now? It looks like well balanced heatsink. I do not want to mess up (I do not plan to change the pads though).

Wow, I put in my order on Aug 26 and the estimated delivery was 14/09/2018. Just checked now and it's been updated to - 06/11/2018 (updated). Has anyone experienced any delays like this?
-
My order was created on 28th of August, 6th September I got it in the mail. Build time varies from place to place, some factories have spare inventory some don't have enough inventory resulting in delays. Mine was ordered in the UK, but I'm from the Netherlands.gsmokez likes this. -
Yeah I was expecting it to be a bit late but I didn't think it would take an extra two months. Going to talk to someone about it and see what they can do.

I just recently bought a refurbished AW R5 8950HK & GTX 1070 and it should arrive by this Tuesday. I was wondering why Dell doesn't offer the 8950HK with the 1070 anymore? It was expensive regardless of being refurbished, but not as much as a new system with the top of the line CPU and GPU.
-
You'll get the laptop sooner.
I had a replacement raised on the 29th and it's due to arrive Monday. The previous date was the 13th...its moves around so don't worrygsmokez likes this. -
You guys were right, it shipped out on the 7th.

Anyone have the link for the dell r5 product support page with all the new and old drivers? Thanks

Now that I have a whole room of UV (-0.211mV is stable!) with my new system, I am running CB with many more different settings. Here is my score with 4.3 GHz and -185.5mV. Maximum temps at 90C with default thermal paste! This is without any software modifications (even with AV running). More to come.
I am still not sure if I need to repaste now. I know that I will most probably have better temps with a good thermal paste but with such high stable UV, I doubt temps will be so high to need it.
https://imgur.com/a/j1Bu1B1
By the way, I managed to find a way to prevent frequencies dropping to 800MHz during idle even with high performance selected in windows. Just use TS and set minimum core cache to 31 and done! So, the frequency drop is obviously not due to power issues but most than probably due to firmware settings implemented in latest bios versions.Last edited: Sep 9, 2018 -
