I saw where that was the only fix mentioned as well. Do you really think they will admit they are fixing their screw up? I know Frank had said there would be a new BIOS this week when asked about addressing the burn out issues, but he didn't go into any details about it on Twitter.

Wish I was not at work so I could test thermals on this new BIOS. I just flashed it. However, being at work with the laptop, I only have my 180W brick with me.

I didn't think they allowed downgrading of the BIOS?

sure... had no problem with the downgrade from 1.3 to 1.2... wanted to compare both versions in performance terms... since they behave the same on my unit i flashed 1.3 again

It might be, companies don't always disclose the full changelog. Do you really think the Dell engineers waited for a week or so to release a new BIOS with just *one* fix? I doubt it but hey, at this point, with the way thing are, I'd flash a new BIOS in a heartbeat just like you did.

They have always allowed downgrading just like MSI does. ASUS is one stupid company that doesn't allow downgrading (via the normal means anyway)

Going to put this new 1.3.1 through its paces later and then if not happy will downgrade.

    Thanks for the info!!!

Not really worried about it either since I am headed home for R&R from Afghansitan in a few days so if it blows up, I am in the US to deal with it and well within a return window.

If it does blow I will probably just get a refund and wait on a 1440p version and these problems to be fixed or go with the MSi GE75. The GT75 and the ASUS g703 are just too damn big and both have them nasty huge bezels still.

nah its not. People who dont read here arent aware of this and use their units the same way... The only thing i do is to unplug it when i leave home. We have seen at least one unit dying during idle... so i think it doesnt matter if you idle @800mhz, playing with reduced speed or 5ghz... If the bad component fail, it fails in any load situation...

You can always use UBU tool from Win-raid to get detailed stats of what is changed and what's not!
I hope your unit doesn't blow up! And check if they crippled the power limits after updating.

So I've been noticing some strange behavior when I close my lid and also opening. First, when closing it should go to sleep, but 75% of the time it will go to sleep, but then turn on after I close it. I have to re-open then close it again and then it will fully go to sleep. Also, when I open it from sleep, I want it to wake back up but it does not and I don't see a setting for opening the lid. My Alienware 18 behaved just fine in both of these scenarios so I'm assuming this 51m can do the same thing. Anyone have similar issues?

Same thing is present on 19H1 aka v1903 insider release. I've have to close and open the lid twice or thrice to get it up and running. I simply ran a test to verify it and its still there on older AW too.

FYI: for those asking earlier, my machine will not boot with the dGPU removed...with or without the AGA attached. The internal display obviously will never work and the heatsink doesn't fit particularly well.

If you use the AGA and disable the dGPU in device manager it uses basically no power anyway.

Edit/Update: opening command prompt and running as admin and typing in this command totally fixed the issue: powercfg.exe /h off. This disables hibernation.

The problem with today's people is, they say everything openly and Dell reps see the undervolting as permanent damage, I reckon that means AWCC voids warranty as well (uses XTU or any proprietary garbage) and must be thrown away or even better option will be to dump Dell laptops since their fan control uses/allows EC to be controlled at user's will.
Mobius 1 was right, deny anything they might throw at us.
Well AWCC uses XTU as well, maybe warranty was a gimmick after all! :bigwink:
@Papusan Do you recommend installing AWCC's XTU tool or not?

This is what you get when you have employees that know nothing about computers. It is not even possible for them to deny warranty when using there own apps.

Let's see those compared in Port Royal, lol!

EDIT: I'm way late, didn't have time to check forums at all since last Friday. I did mean single gpu RTX laptops. I don't have any interest in clevo type laptops, and I don't think most gamers do either. Not tryng to dig up an old comment, just providing a very late response.

Updated my vBIOS and BIOS today and ran Fire Strike. Score seems to be similar to what I was getting before. CPU at 5ghz and -75 undervolt, GPU at +150/200. I have the 9700k/2080.

CPU max temp was 78 and GPU max temp was 69.

EDIT: This was all done through Alienware CC on performance fans.

Something freaky is going on with my laptop and I can't figure out what it is. Unless I OC my GPU with Afterburner it doesn't want to run but between 300-600MHz on 1.3.1 BIOS and 200W vBIOS.

Ran Firestrike completely stock on the 1.3.1 BIOS and 200W vBIOS and got barely over 10,000 points. Straight out of the box when I received the laptop I hit over 22,000 with graphics score of over 26,000. Looked at HWInfo and my GPU clock was only averaging 640MHz. It hit 1845MHz as the high but had to have only been for a split second. My GPU score on this run was a paltry 11,141. I had a higher FPS in the Physics Test running off the CPU (60.66) than either of the Graphics tests (49.95 / 47.02).

Also ran the benchmark in Division 2 and only averaged 58FPS at 1080p Ultra settings. Stock out of the box before loading any of Dell's BIOS's when I got the laptop this past Friday I averaged between 110-120 FPS. This was on 1.2.0 BIOS and before installing the 200W vBIOS.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The below is all with the CPU at stock.

So I go to MSi Afterburner and ran the built in OC scanner. It set itself a custom voltage curve which I now have loaded and started up Kombustor. Kombustor ran for 10 minutes at a constant load of 1875MHz at between 166-178FPS and has not gotten over 74C pulling between 118 and 132 Watts so I know there is nothing physically wrong with the GPU

Just ran Firestrike with the OC from Afterburner and this is my results:

    Score: 22104
    Graphics: 26986
    Physics: 17717
    Combined: 11134
    GPU Test 1: 131.55 FPS
    GPU Test 2: 105.89 FPS
    Physics Test: 56.25 FPS
    Combined: 51.79

These scores are about identical to my scores straight out of the box above that I ran on BIOS 1.2.0 when I got the laptop on Friday.

ETA: This was all done with fans on Balanced

Hmmmm... so I had no issues running Fire Strike with the CPU/GPU overclocked, but when I play PUBG it crashes constantly (game exits and says there was an error). I had CPU 5ghz and -75 undervolt and 150/200 GPU when it crashed. Disabled the CPU OC and just left the GPU OC and it still crashed. Enabled the CPU but lowered the GPU to 140/185 and it still crashed. Lowered the GPU to 135/180 and still crashed. This was happening before I updated the vBIO and BIOS, was hoping it would be fixed after updating, but no luck. I played 1 full game with OC disabled and didn't have a single crash. Do you think its the GPU OC causing it or Alienware CC?

EDIT: This same situation was happening in The Division 2

Rebooted to make sure the Afterburner OC was not in use and set fans to Performance and ran FS again. Scored just slightly less than with the Afterburner OC on balanced fans, right at 22,000.

As a control scenario I reset the fans to Balanced again and ran FS one more time without the Afterburner OC. Scored just slightly under 22,000.

Maybe it was just a glitch in the Matrix. Thanks for the suggestion!!!

My next step was to pull the CMOS battery and see if that would fix it, but it fixed itself.

Ah, thats good to know! Weird that a long benchmark like Fire Strike doesn't crash, but a game does within 5 minutes. I'll lower it down to 100 and see what happens. Do you think 100/200 is good, or do people typically have the memory lower as well?

Welp, my 3rd delay is for 3/26 delivery and it's still just confirmed on the site, no tracking or emails. I think I'm done. I'm not gonna go chase a chat rep from India again to tell me they're still waiting on parts. This is insane.

It's been a fun ride, but I'm fairly confident I'm gonna take my four thousand dollars elsewhere. GG, Dell. Would love to be surprised tomorrow but I'm very doubtful.

Alright, went with 100/200 on the GPU and was able to play a full game without a crash, woot! I was locked at 150 FPS with the 150/200, but now it jumps between 145-150, still better than crashing every couple of minutes. Thank you!

Moving the mouse will wake it as soon as, or during closing the lid... I had it on the Clevos too. I used to switch mouse off (on/off switch on mouse) then close the lid.

Just got off the phone with the order modification department, they do not have any stock of the 144hz gsync screen and do not have an eta on when they will. I was told any orders placed as of this moment on any Area 51m will have a “estimated” ship date of April 24th. Only options I have available for my order is to cancel or check back with them on Friday on the status of the build. :(

My speakers sound fine. I was actually impressed considering they're laptop speakers. Which CPU did you order?

Weird, mine rattle after 50% volume, quite underwhelmed as they are also thin sounding.

    I got the 9900k

To be fair, it was only a 20 minute PUBG match, I haven't done a long gaming session at 100/200 to see how stable it is. But it was crashing every 5 minutes before, so 20 minutes looks promising! I'll give it a longer test run tonight with The Division 2

The Division 2 Benchmark at 1440p w/ Ultra everything. CPU was 78C and GPU was 73C.

    9700k/2080 (CPU 5ghz -75 undervolt and GPU 100/200)

That seems low. I'm gonna test mine. Didn't realize there was a benchmark tool inside Division 2, but I know I was getting good frame rates while playing on a 2070.
