I'd still not push my luck with FurMark because I mentioned it before here also that I fried 2 of my self bought cards (RX-580 and a GTX-1080 TI Founders edition with a cooler master liquid cooler that I installed myself, the card ran like a champ for 6 months before furmark touched it). It's called power virus for a reason and we should respect the fact that we're getting 200 watts in a slim chassis like this. I will investigate the parts Dell has installed though and if needed, I'll look for alternative part numbers with higher heat and power ratings and solder them myself. That'd be a good weekend project. ;)

my R5 is slimmer than the 51m AND produces higher wattages as the 51m (my 1080 have boosted 220w+ easily playing star citizen)

From my understanding, It is "Static" in name only. It creates a baseline, but if you keep cores at max turbo speeds with the power state features, it will always consume more. From my testing it is always .080 - .150v more under load.

I think we are missing some settings to truly lock it down.

Why not use "Adaptive"? I always get lower voltage on "Static" before it becomes unstable.

I am personally having great stability, temps and performance using the AWCC and dragging down the voltage an clocks on the cpu and gpu. I just seem to have better luck using voltage offset than static. Maybe if we get a more unlocked bios at some point it will be a different story. Ive tamed the beast so cpu and gpu does not go above 73c in heavy gaming like BF4. I am always up for trying new stuff. :)

Have to say, very happy so far.

For anyone that remembers my "triple Threat" hard line desktop build with 3 kingpins in sli. I am building another set to try some "artistic" photos of this 51m like i did with that build i did.

ANyone else having issues with AWCC all of the sudden? WIndows updated a few nights ago during a shutdown and yesterday AWCC was REALLY behaving sluggishly when changing fan profiles (way worse than before). Today, AWCC won't even load. It sits with what is basically a white screen for about 45 seconds and then just closes by itself. I tried re-installing it, but to no avail. I'm going to play with it a bit more once I get back home, but I was wondering if anyone has had this happen to them recently.

So I went this morning to the shop where I got it and they were like we will send it to the service center. I was like no way I'm not paying 5K for a laptop to send it to a service center the next day and wait! I kept insisting to swap the unit, they had non in stock other than a display unit. I checked it and it was in mint condition so I grabbed that one. Keyboard is fine and the temps are lower. this is with a -100mV undervolt as opposed to yesterday's -125mV undervolt yet I got 200 more Cinebench points:

I had the same issue yesterday, I ended up completely uninstalling the command center and the oc module with deletion of the root folder and registry before reinstalling. Seems to work better now, still loads very slowly but doesn't keep crashing and not loading at all now.

So how's that 250$ cable doing with the AW?
Does it allow the system to pull above 330W as they promised?

Added a similar cable to my 780W to bench smaller Clevo's. It let's you change the tip to any Notebook plug you like and was kinda 'free' as it came from a broken 45$ universal PSU.

Btw, just a random tidbit in case anyone is interested... the latest version of AWCC / AlienFX doesn't play well with some games that try to control the keyboard lighting directly (here's looking at you Civ 6).

If anyone has wonky games that make the keyboard blink / otherwise change it's colors and they can't change them back, just disable the LightFX.dll (rename to _disabled) in C:\Windows\System32. That did the trick for me... now the game wont' override my keyboard lighting (and give me seizures since it didn't work correctly). Lame that they removed the "disable 3rd party FX" option in AWCC at some point (it used to have that option).

Hope this helps somebody, it was enough to drive me nuts. I hadn't played Civ 6 in a while and was looking for a slower paced game. : )

EDIT: Worth noting that I'm not sure if disabling that will limit AWCC itself from changing the keyboard colors and themes. I have mine with the default sky blue & enjoy that color balance).

Guys I'm a noob in overclocking so I am sticking to AWCC because it seems the easiest way. I tested OC2 in firestrike and scored 22700 and 27800 graphics. I tried manually adjusting to +200 +200 and undervolt on -70 cpu (which is stable alone) but firestrike crashes with these settings. Am I doing anything wrong ? (Also in OC 2 it sets the cpu to 5.1 but monitoring in afterburner shows only 4.8)

Testet both on my r5 and A51m. With -120mv i have 1.05-1.08v Load voltage during CB. With 1.00v static i have 1.05-1.08v during CB. Same package Power, same temps. This is on my A51m

Lower becomes instable. I stick with offset UV.

Lower your overclock. Could be to much of a UV for your cpu as well.. baby increments up from stock till it becomes unstable. The canned OC settings form AW is garbage. if your going to OC you need to use MSI Afterburner for GPU and Throttlestop or intel XTU for CPU. But work on one at a time (cpu/gpu) till you find where each one is happy.

My AWCC became slow and sluggish after a recent windows 10 update. I noticed my machine did windows updates and after rebooting it started happening, SO I am going to remove the updates that were installed before the reboot. I will make note of which ones it was and if it fixes it ill post here.

Hey I’m the other person who had a key fall off with a light press.
So an update for me is I called dell and got really great support, had it sent to a repair center vs back to dell which is like a month difference in turnaround time. They got my unit, repairs it one day after getting it, said they were gonna ship it out but I guess they kept it an extra day for testing so I thought I’d get it yesterday, but nope. They called me this morning at 8am and said it had just shipped and would arrive at 8pm tonight, so I figured i probably won’t get it back until after the weekend then. And then fedex knocks on my door 2hr later. So other than the tracking system they have not being so accurate it was a very fast turnaround. I’m not completely sure if they just replaced the key or the whole keyboard, but on my paper they sent to me it says they replaced the ram gpu and hardware component, so? My thoughts are that’s a lot to replace for one b key falling off. Oh btw I spent 2 days trying to get the key back on myself and even thought about glue but was like not on a multi thousand dollar brand new machine.

AWCC is really forked right now.. dammit. It either comes up white, times out and close, or eventually comes up... then when it does it takes ages to change any profiles (either OC or fan). Not sure if it has anything to do with the FX dll I disabled to make Civ 6 work correctly, but damn this is pissing me off. Must have had a blue screen while I was away.. came back, logged in, and my OC is off again (undervolting).

I'm feeling the area underneath the keyboard (left side) kinda warm. Is this normal?

Nevermind, now I know what's going on, I am copying large amounts of videos from my external HD to the internal 2TB HDD so the left part is where the HDD is located and I guess it's getting warm due to the activity. All good :)

Perhaps they replaced your GPU as a precaution, to hopefully prevent the type of failure that affected few other 51m users.

Well seems like it's happening very often. Bad batch perhaps?

Gonna be sad if the failure rate for these units are very high. Dellienware finally did something right for once but botched up another thing very critical. I hope it can be addressed in future revisions and it's not something lame as reducing the power limit.

What’s an easy way to tell which vbios (wattage) you have? Is there a specific file name for each I can see in GPUZ?

YIKES, just saw this benchmark gaming video

Stock GTA V running at 1080p, with an average framerate of 40+fps & dips as low as 23fps!!!

Does the $4,000 51m i9/2080 maxed out version really run that bad for a 5 year old port of a Xbox 360 game?
Can anyone with GTAV test this to see if it's really that bad?

Even if not overclocked, that seems way too low for the most powerful modern desktop equivalent laptop available.

Its plaguing us all apparently. This is my replacement machine unfortunately and I didnt want to wait for another replacement or send it to the depot, so I asked to have a tech sent out to replace it.

Of course I'll be tearing the machine down by myself before they arrive (so all he has to do is put it back in) and ill be watching him put it back together like a hawk, these guys cant be trusted. Have had such bad experiences with these guys but unfortunately alienware wouldn't just send me the GPU "because it's such a hard process" yet they told me they had no problem with me switching the old GPU into the new machine, makes no sense...

In the meantime I took the GPU from my old machine that I haven't sent back yet and put it in the new machine, so it's working fine for now. I wanted to be 100% sure it was the GPU before they came and replaced it and not a motherboard or other issue.

That's just where you find the settings to overclock the CPU in the BIOS.

Though the only setting within it is the multiplier, no voltage control or anything.
