No thanks man, you need to chill out. If you don’t believe me, don’t quote my text and move on. Relax, my temps I posted are only quick firestrike runs. They are very possible and very true.

At performance fans, with my undervolt at 5ghz in firestrike, I didn’t go above 83C even during the physics test. Nothing amazing to see here. My last A51m had a similar result as well

What about burned gpu..some news?
Who knows something about this... -
It would be nice to know if the "fix" is working on new machines ordered after Dell did recive all the burned GPUs. Im Swedish so English isnt my native language, but this is the best forum for this device
so pardon my spelling and gramar.

It would also appear as this is not just related to the gpu. cpus are also burning up....

As in the silicon Die? Got a link? That is crazy. Vary rare for a CPU to break without pin/pad damage. -
Sorry, no link. Just know that it's true. Nothing personal, but I do not burn my sources in forums....Papusan and ThatOldGuy like this.

Y-adapter? Or plugging another PSU in with the 780w?
So I'm gonna assume this is a AW A51-m specific issue? Or is this actually a CPU issue? Got any details on what could be the reason? -
Yes, Y adapter would seem like that could work. Given it still detected my dual 330W adapter as being a legit dell 330W adapter with no errors.
Don't know. Swapped cpus and the board worked. That's all I got right now....raz8020, Papusan, ThatOldGuy and 1 other person like this. -

Dis you make a Y adapter? Just curious where you got one. I searched high and low for a 1 female 2 male 7.4mm Barrel Y adapter and could not find one -
Home made. This could done be for the m18 models. Aka before Dell screwed up for the AW 18 models.
-
No, I do not have one. And as you, I started looking for one right after the dual 330W psu was not detected as 660W.
I figure this is dualable as explained up above. The first mock up could be just a dual cable on a single 330W psu to see if it would see it as such from both ports. Or take my dual psu and just add another cable to it to see what happens.ThatOldGuy likes this. -
I wouldn't do that without a Schottky...

Finished adding in all my upgrades. So for the 9700k , the best settings are 5.0ghz with a -130 undervolt and temps stay below 80C. For benching I can do 5.2ghz with no undervolt but temps hit high 90s. It runs so much cooler than 5.2ghz and for normal gaming will perform the same. This is where I’ll be 24/7 for the CPU. GPU I’m still clocking like hell to find the max

So as I'm going through this thread & reading up on the comments, I see that the Alienware Command Center is awful for overclocking & everyone recommends MSI Afterburner & Throttlestop.
But I seen a few posts saying that Afterburner & TS can't control the fans & only AWCC can? Is this true or has this been fixed? I want my fans for performance mode when I overclock.
Is it safe to uninstall AWCC? -
i would like to see some scores @5,2ghz and your like hell clocked GPU
raz8020 and VoodooChild like this. -
I believe you can set the fan speed in BIOS, but I’m not 100% sure on that. Otherwise, yes, only AWCC can control the fan speeds.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this.

I wouldn't uninstall AWCC, you can use it in pair with Afterburner and TS by just disabling OC in AWCCSlickDragon, raz8020, ThatOldGuy and 2 others like this.

Leave it installed to switch between fan profiles. Also need it for the RGB lights
Only one option in bios to set fan to 100%

He means you do not want the PSUs to feed into each other, so you add a diode to prevent "backflow" so to speak, and because we are talking a lot of amps (330W @ 20V = 16.5A) you do not want to drop a lot of voltage either, a silicon diode would drop near 1V at those amps, and may be as much as 16W, so you choose a Schottky diode which inherently drops much less voltage.
Basically you do not want to simply wire two (or more) PSUs/batteries together (in parallel) unless you are sure they are made specifically for this purpose, else one would end up playing into the other with possibly very bad consequences. -

Gotcha.
BTW if I change the speeds to one setting, can I completely exit/close the AWCC app & the fans still stay the same as it was with it open? -
If by close you mean pressing the "X" button to close it, then yes everything will stick.SpentaTONofMoolah4k likes this.

If by close, I mean righting clicking the icon in the tray & selecting exit, will the fans stick to the last option selected?

Might be a little screw stuck somewhere. Try to open the bottom panel then wiggle the laptop a little bit until that screw falls off.jpm128 likes this. -

Just realized that my laptop has 4x16GB of Kingston KCRXJ6-MIE 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM
I initially thought that my RAM was 2400 MHz. but now I am really hoping that Dell give us a new BIOS that supports this RAM speed otherwise why would they install 2666MHz. RAM in a machine if it's gonna run at lower speed? -
Dell pick what they have available. Same also for ssd's.
Btw. A new one
Area 51M just fried, 1 week old, i9/2080
As the title says, my one week old Area 51M just fried. I was playing BF5 and all of a sudden the screen started flickering, sparks shot out of the back for several seconds, and then a burned electric smelling smoke raised.
UPDATE: Spoke with Alienware, the issue is that the GPU’s voltage is too high. It is a known issue and a BIOS update has been released undervolting the GLU to 16v from 19v (not effecting performance says Alienware).
Second.
Alienware Area 51m : A 4k$+ machine with huge problems...
I've called Dell to have an on-site repair with a technician, they told me that this could be due to a failure on a power supply element on the motherboard :/...Last edited: Apr 13, 2019SlickDragon, Ashtrix, alberty and 4 others like this. -

Yeah this is why I didn't bother updating my VBIOS to the 200W version until Dell figures this out.

Has anyone figured out what the name difference js between the 180 and 200 watt vbios ? Trying to see what HID gave me using GPUZ

What will you do after the return time is over and/if Dell launches revision 2 of MB / Gpu or a new batch? Ask for a replacement when others tell they got refreshed hardware? Or just wait it out?
From link above. Updated vBios won't fix this...

Can you not run a game and have MSI Afterburner with Riva Statistics to see how much wattage is the GPU pulling? -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
Yes the max I’m pulling is 189, so I’m not sure which I have

Interesting. Thanks for the explanation.
Although this would not be for a permanent situation only to see if it would recognize it from 1 psu on 2 ports or 2 psu's already wired for a single use port, but reverted back in to a dual port scenario. The dual psu is wired through a rectifier with heat sink. So your saying I would need to add this schottky diode where in that line? And would I still need one for a single psu test?Papusan likes this. -

Then it means you have the stock 190W VBIOS. -

I didn't know they had a 180W. As far as I know, the default VBIOS was 190W then Dell gave us a little update to 200W, never saw a 180W variant.
But it's better/safer that you're on the 190W VBIOS for now.hmscott likes this. -
180W was the original plan. They raised it to 190W for release then increased to 200W.
