I was born in 1952. Still one of the top players in COD2 online with my old clan buddies, LOL.. I can hold my own in BF4. Not much in to the twitch shooters like CS:Go, probably don't have the reflexes anymore for that.

Pretty old here as well and I agree. I used to carry a case with my gaming console and a monitor through the airport. That was heavy and bulky but didn't care cause all I needed was an outlet and I was ready to play some serious games while waiting. This 51m is a dream come true. I love having a laptop as upgradeable as this to take apart and improve myself.

@Ultra Male Is that still the 51m you bought at the store with the busted key? Those are some nice temps with stock paste. (assuming it is still stock)

Nope, I returned that one, they had nothing in stock but the display unit so I took that, it actually has a better screen with 0 backlight bleed and has slightly better CPU temps than the one I had initially.

Full Benchmark results + Temps are out guys:

Top left and bottom right have a minor bleed. I'm not a display guy, my panel does have heavy light bleed and rarely observe them.

This is strange, so I followed these two guides from CS Studios identically & had near similar results to his.
    Underclock/OC CPU 51m:

    Undervolt/OC 51m:

I used Throttle Stop & MSI Afterburner.

I set all CPU cores to 4.9 & undervolted -110.4 for core/cache & with max fans I get a score of 4,855 on Cinebench 15.
It still seems to throttle even at 4.9 though. Decent I guess?

For MSI Afterburner, I undervolted exactly like in that video, selecting 950 & then upping it to 75 & hitting L.
I selected +230/+500 & got a GPU score of 164.93 avg. fps in Cinebench 15.
The Cinebench test crashes on anything over +240/+600.

Lowering it to +120/+300 like in the video guide gave a similar 161 avg. fps.

Here is the strange part, I kept changing the values in-between those two & I kept getting small increments of lower fps everytime!
So I went back to my best test of +230/+500, but instead of giving me 165 fps, I got 150 fps avg.!!
My lowest oc of +120/+300 that first game me 161 fps, was now giving me 153 fps!

    All at mac fan performance!

Here is what is really strange, I decided to completely close MSI Afterburner & just do the test at stock with no OC & I got a avg. fps of 167!!! So no overclock from AWCC or Afterburner gave me the best framerate test in Cinebench 15! What the hell.
I then opened AWCC & selected OC1 profile, which seemed to be running at higher numbers than normal & I got my best test result yet, an avg 170fps!

What the heck is going on?

At the bottom right just below the overlay I see more white light. Rest of the panel felt like OLED. Is it from LG or AUO?

This is the first thing I searched for when I wanted to duplicate those firestrike score, but I found out 3DMark costs $29.99 on steam to use it & firestrike.

Am I missing something or are you guys are using it for free?

You can run basic firestrike for free. Check thier website

On steam you can get it for like $3 when they do thier mega sales. Full version comes with a bunch of different benchmarks, all the options and stress tests.

In the steam app? I saw no option for a free demo? They want money for any search result of 3dmark.
I also saw no download link at 3dmark's own site either.

So Dell just called me back and they offered me a 3rd deal. (Basic + Accidental damage)
Those are the options i'm considering.

    What would you guys pick?

Basic Hardware service warranty - Hardware Service with Onsite/In-Home Service After Remote Diagnosis (Protection from defect)
    3 Years total - $240.00 (80$/year)
    4 Years total - $440.00 (110$/year)
    5 Years total - $550.00 (110$/year)

Basic Hardware service warranty + Accidental damage - Hardware Service with Onsite/In-Home Service After Remote Diagnosis (Protection from defect)
    3 Years total - $540.00 (180$/year)

Mine also does not have any backlight bleed. Also the whites are very white for an ips panel, most other are warm with yellowish whites. Very impressive screen, just wish it was more bright.

The 3 years seems to be the best deal for hardware and accidental. Seems to be cheaper than what I paid for 2 years.

Is it $240 + $540 for hardware + accidental or $540 for both?

Maybe someone is intrested in the HWlog from my Anno1800 session this evening:

90min, 3440x1440, Ultra Details, 2xAA, 5ghz, 1800mhz GPU, balanced fan profile, Cstates and speedstep on but nearly the whole time @5ghz due to load. There is a big NPC City next to my small Island... Heavy CPU Limit there. 68% gpu load in my Settings above XD

Average 64 FPS is realistic. 7fps min is from Alt+Tab to check hwinfo log.

Got this information from account rep who check his internal support resources. Makes me feel little better..... a little

There were some reports with burning smell and smoke, issue appeared at first launch, we have now fixed

This has been root caused to a component issue with two separate parts. The first component fails as a result of a maximum voltage higher than the component is rated for. This component will no longer be used going forward. The second component has been found damaged with +19V pin shorted to GND due to a suspected material quality issue. This part has been restricted and is subject to stress test before being used.

To mitigate the impact on the systems that have already built with these components and have already shipped to customers, a new BIOS (Version 1.3.2) has been released on the Dell Support Site.

This BIOS changes the input voltage from 19V to 16V. It is recommended that customers update to this BIOS to reduce the chances of this issue occurring. Please advise customers to attach BOTH AC Adapters while updating the BIOS.”

Yes looks like as long as main bios at one mentioned should be fine.

However if yours was made with the parts mentioned I’d stress it now to break under warranty as dell would replace with one not using these components

This Bios version is 3 weeks old. And none have seen Area go up in smoke with this version?

The so called Fix... "It is recommended that customers update to this BIOS to reduce the chances of this issue occurring" Why not mention this in " Fixes & Enhancements"? Or post it on Twitter/FB?

Btw. Is this a new one? https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/comments/bdvt0c/51m_update/
