That would be interesting to hear. Although it could be one built with bad parts as mentioned.
I asked about ensuring unit I’ve reorder now doesn’t have the only parts / already built units but assured they aren’t using that component(s) any build leaving dell warehouse since they’ve known (that timeframe I don’t know )

Well I just updated to the 200w bios and I don’t see a difference in benchmarks. My 2080 is still maxing out in benches at 2040 to 2100 MHz on the core. So I don’t see the point of this higher tdp

Nvidia's last trick ''clock-block 3.0" by hard locking all 2080 Mobile to 2100Mhz

Nvidia could instead offer...

That’s horrible because I’m rock solid at 2100mhz and could probably go above that easily.

So I purchased my area51m from hidevolution 9700k binned with the rtx 2080. I will be performing benchmarks and posting it once i get the laptop! Super excited.

Has anyone found out the culprit to the dead area51m’s? Seems not many people have been reporting issues as of lately. Hopefully this has been resolved by dell
-
Remember Nvidia don't want to offer more than absolutely needed. Give people more could hamper sales of next gen cards (remember 880M ? - A scam release). And RMA will cost them money. They play the trick game. Or better say... They throw out Scam!

My Firestrike scores suck!
Stock is 22,319 total & graphics got 26,925
AWCC OC1 profile got 23,039 total & 27,183 graphics.
My best TS/AF combo got me a total of 24,000 & a graphics total of 28,425
Messing with the Afterburner overclocks for anything more, crashes or reboots my system.
My max in Afterburner settings were +200 clock & +425 memory. With an undervolt.
My ThrottleStop settings are CPU cores all at 5GHz, -125mV offset undervolt on both core & cache, with the BDPROCHOT unchecked & SPEED SHIFT EPP checked & set to 0. All via what the video tutorials said to do.
I also had GeForce Experience app open as well. Fans as max & both power bricks connected. -
Anyone else CPU performance mode option is greyed out and can't be enabled in the bios? I'm on1.3.2 bios. What gives??
-
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
Back off on the core to 170 and get that memory to +1000, your core is too high. My best was +185/+1350. Most can only do +160 to +185 max. Also, no need to undervolt the GPU in this chassis

So people with units before dell found out about this issue (and ones ordered thru third parties as they most likely bulk ordered early units knowing the market) should stress test the $4!*7 out of their systems in case they have the components found to fail; which are no long shipping on unit sentence out from dell (most likely why so many had delays on orders from March)

Good thing my unit from HID just arrived to their ware house last week, so I should be covered. The units arrived to HID with the latest bios which tells me they are fresh

Sounds good, I definitely dont want too run into any issues like some members have had, I plan on keeping this laptop for awhile.

So from what I’m reading Dell puts 2666 MHz ram in but is still limiting it to 2400? Even with OC tool?
-
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
That’s correct. Supposedly a future bios update will unlock the ram.

Myself and many others fixed this issue by reseting the CMOS battery if I remember correctly, this was quite awhile ago though. -
And the adapters?
-
So i bought
3 years Basic + 3 years accidental dammage warranty for 450$ CAD
I think i got a good priceSlickDragon, Fire Tiger, HookemAZ and 1 other person like this. -

Not a bad deal considering I got charged $708 US for 4 years of basic + accidental. Split up into to machines though, 2 years each. -
Got the name of that rep by any chances?
-
Where's the cmos battery if I have to disassemble a bunch of the laptop I'm gonna be pissed lol. Or is it accessible by popping the bottom off.
Hum.. -
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
Its easily accessible. Just need to take the base off and dig your fingers under there. Might have to take the battery out, can't quite remember tbh. Check the service manual -
Don’t wanna out em. And not like he’s the engineer that found this. It’s just the information he was able to get from internal resources.
I’m still going trust but verify by stress testing (nothing crazy but within what it should be able to handle ) while under warranty just to be safe -
Seems like if you have the OC Enabled in AWCC it disabled the bios. So when I disabled the OC in the software the button was no longer greyed out. But the OC options are just poor no voltage control just profiles and power limit and CPU speeds.
-
I don’t know what that question means. Can you clarify?
You need both power adapters in while doing bios update if that’s the question -

my life.
I ran the test at +170 & +1000 & it did o.k
Ran the test again at +174 & +1,100 & my laptop crashed & got ready to reboot, but is just staling at that screen.
I been stuck at this screen for half an hour with my fans on max:
"Just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you.
100% complete
If you call a support person, give them this info
stop code: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"
It is NOT turning off or rebooting, holding the power button is not doing anything. Closing the lid is doing nothing.
How can I turn my laptop off? There are no other buttons to use to do a manual power off?Last edited by a moderator: Apr 17, 2019 -

Yikes... doesnt sound good man. Disconnect the battery by removing the base.Last edited by a moderator: Apr 17, 2019 -
I know this may sound dumb but how long are you holding the power button. Hold solid for at least 30 seconds before going thru taking off bottom/ disconnecting batteryLast edited by a moderator: Apr 17, 2019alaskajoel, SpentaTONofMoolah4k and XxAcidSnowxX like this.

Removed battery (it was very hot) & placed the plug back in.
Turning it on, I get a something new.
A white screen greeted me with the words
"This battery is temporarily disable (spelled like that). Please turn off the computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature."
I had a few options at the bottom, I selected continue & now I'm back to my homepage normally?!?!
So the battery can overheat among other things?Last edited: Apr 16, 2019 -

Maybe you got power cut from AC and firmware switched it over on battery?
The battery shouldn't be hot if you run your laptop on AC power. Only if the battery was on charging while you tested.

Those are high benchmark score and will not be replicable by every single unit and certainly not by everyone.
You must have certain OC'ing/Benchmarking knowledge in order to achieve high score and certainly a little bit of luck on the Silicon lottery.
Do a fresh install, install the driver and enjoy the computer don't stress about benching.
It's a RTX 2080 with a desktop grade CPU the performance can't be bad.Last edited: Apr 16, 2019SlickDragon, VoodooChild, SacraficeMyGoat and 1 other person like this. -

That's one of the videos I saw.
I know I might has lost at the silicon lottery, but can you post your TS & AF settings, so I can clone them with maybe a slight lower value for them, just to see if I can get close to the ballpark in the 30k area? -
You bought an F1 car but clearly you're not an F1 driver.
If you want to really unleash the beast than maybe have someone with proper knowledge work remotly on your PC and pay him/her to setup/test your PC or ask question around the forum and read a lot, there are a lot of ressources and guide on this forum.
Otherwise you can just do a Clean install with proper and updated driver and enjoy your powerful machine. Even if your not OC'ing the CPU and GPU this laptop is a beast and will offer top of the line performance.
On my day to day i don't use either TS nor Afterburner with my machine.
I use AWCC since it's perfectly capable of offering more than great performance and thermal.
My day to day settings are (9700k-2080)

Have you even played a game yet? What exactly are you trying to do with this system?
If you want to get into competitive bench-marking, starting off on a laptop is a very hard start. There is no easy way to get to the top.
If you just want to game, there is no reason to push the overclock much if any at all. This system will max out AAA titles at stock. Undervolting is recommended for better temps though.SlickDragon, raz8020, Darkhan and 4 others like this. -
I assume you mean 30k for JUST graphics on Firestrike, right? Overall/combines is 24-26k for most.

For my results below I did the following , which was very simple compared to the benching I do to my desktops. I use XTU for the CPU, afterburner for the GPU, and AWCC for my fan control.
9700k 5.1ghz -125mv
2080 @ +185/+1325
Max fans
Close all open apps and even afterburner
Ran the benchmarks about 50 times today to get the highest possible. Crashed a million times as well. Takes time and patience. For just gaming I’m at 9700k @ 4.8ghz -160mv and 2080 +125/+600

Not yet. I wanted a easy way to hook a PC to my TV to game in 4k & lugging around a massive gaming PC from my bedroom to my living room & back & forth is not feasible.
Hoping to get 4k & 60fps with settings set at the appropriate levels for Metro Exodus & Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
Here are all my settings I been using on my RTX 2080 & a i9, with fans at max during benchmarking.
Core Voltage, should it be at zero???
Options circled in white, I did from a video tutorial suggesting I do so.
Also my core & cache are matched evenly.
Good bad? Did something terribly wrong on any of them? -
You did not experience any conflicts when running both AWCC and Intel XTU side by side? I did and ended up totally getting rid of AWCC and my issues went away. It seemed as if AWCC was not allowing me to undervolt below 100mV which I eventually achieved successfully using XTU when I pushed my CPU to a super stable undervolt of 120mV and 115mV with all cores boost set to 5GHz. I will re-do this tweaking session after delid and liquid metal to hopefully achieve much more than this going forward. But for now that's good enough as my CPU is finally not throttling anymore. For fan control, I'll probably use HWInfo or speedfan or write my own little windows shell script.
-
Don't shoot down the display with a shotgun. Take it slow...
-
dont forget that all of these 30k+ graphic score settings are far far far away of gamestable. A Benchmark with those settings is pure trial and error. Find a setting that is gamestable (+120/+200) for example and be happy with your a51m.
As one of the users said. Copy Paste is not possible in these regions of benching. You want to climb the olymp? Then learn the basics and start from the scratch. There is no easy way.
-> My experience: Max OC is not best option everytime.
I have 4 Profiles
1800mhz UV
1850Mhz UV
1900Mhz UV
+165/+600
would you like to guess which is the fastest ingame in demanding games like metro and Anno 1800?Last edited: Apr 17, 2019 -
Hey folks! Did any one of you remove that aluminium like coating from your DGFF card before applying new thermal pads? From the looks of it in the pictures, it seems that it could be keeping the thermal pads from making good contact with the power components on the PCB itself. Here's what I'm pointing at below (The silver thin metal like film which I suspect is blocking underlying components from making a good contact with the thermal pads on top)

Put it into Steam's wishlist. I grabbed it during Steam India's Diwali festive offers for 90% off, I paid just 1$ for advanced license.
They did spam my mail saying 75% off and I ignored it and then suddenly they gave 90% off and I grabbed it. Only thing you're missing in Free version is detailed info for monitoring and Vulkan/Dx12 tests and maybe their VR test. -
Do you mean CB20? What are your temps? And which BIOS are you running?
-
He means that AWCC OC profile gives him best benchmark scores.
I think the OP has reached thermal limits which reduced the overall and avg FPS. Not all system perform similarly!
