I wasn't talking to you about the Acer as you've already pointed out it is soldered.

But there is an RX 580 MXM, even een RX 480

On A51M it will not work because nvidia GSYNC will break on AMD cards.

Yeah that's true. But since Nvidia nowadays supports freesync up to a certain degree, it's just a matter of time when we can choose between Gsync or freesync (in the same monitor.) NVIDIA tried to make it proprietary on PC's while on laptop Gsync already works according to the freesync method (without extra hardware just software).

That's why Nvidia can "license" freesync monitors to use Gsync. They already use a freesync form for laptops, all that has to be done is to make that mode switchable (like with optimus). Could be a registry setting (bit i'm thinking bios in combination with kernel)

That won't work because Dell and others paid huge premium to get custom panels certified by nvidia for GSYNC. Opting for FS2 will ruin the investment and you can say 500-600$ is saved w/o GSYNC and with Fressync compatible panels. Nvidia won't allow it at the end of the day.

How embarrassing was most of the vitams of the 51m area, I was playing the division2, when I see a smoke come out in front of the monitor and soon after the notebook turned off at once, what a disappointment so expensive notebook with poor quality, it only takes 10 days I'm with him, to make matters worse I'm with him in Europe and I bought in USA, I do not know how the support will be done :(

I also have my monitors/TVs super dim, even while playing. My TV for console gaming is set to 0 brightness, and I think I have this laptop a little less than 50%, and my external monitor at 0

When did you place your order, and when did you receive it?
There's been a lot of talk bandied about regarding "batches", so I'm wondering if there is any credence to the notion that these "burning issues" have been addressed such that the "new batches" are immune, or if such statements amount to nothing more than a con job on Dell's part. o_O

Someone here has some knowledge on which parts (DGFF) can be considered from "1st gen" as they say there are parts number that can identify whether that's from a newer variant or not. Hidevolution has the Area 51m as "In Stock" so it may have been from an earlier shipment. Its pretty scary times for Area 51m buyers. :(

Oh I know about those, I was specifically referring to Vega 56+ cards.

Issue isn't G-SYNC since there are non G-SYNC panels.

AMD cards use HBM so Dell would need a new modified heatsink maybe for the card.

I don't see them adding AMD unless Navi is successful.

Sounding like there might not be a "new batch" after all. And the new BIOS still doesn't prevent the issue.

I'm still curious why this isn't affecting every Area-51m if it was a design flaw. It's affecting a lot of us but not all of us. Some of us has owned the laptop for 2 months.

For anybody playing Division 2, what GPU speed are you holding? With slight UV mine hangs out at about 1920mhz and drops down to 1890mhz after about 30min... Balanced fan....

With overclocks I never go below 1900. Usually hovers between 1905 to 1995. All depends on your overclock and temp

That sounds about right. Temp isn't the only factor here. If the GPU is being heavily stressed, it could also hit a power limit, lowering the clock speeds. One scene might hit 1890Mhz @ 200w whereas another scene can do 1920Mhz.

Temp/Power both play together in this. However since it's balanced fans I'd check temps. After 87C it'll throttle down.

Do stock come with heatsinks or thermal pads?

And people pretty much just installing fresh copy windows from Microsoft and then get AWCC and etc from dell site for drivers?

I wonder which configurations tend to burn the most, is it always the RTX2080 and 9900K that go up in smoke?

on first place it depends on the load. Play Division with DSR or higher Res and you will drop below 1900 ;) i think your 9700k is limiting from time to time = lower load = higher boost.

I don't know for sure if they're all Toshiba, but mine definitely was. It was clearly an OEM model/serial/SKU.

Stock drive came with a heatsink and a small, blue thermal pad in between from what I can see.

I'll personally be doing a nice, fresh install of 10 Pro (versus my Dell 10 Home) cause I'd like to be as clean as possible. and I get Pro for cheap from work.

So has anyone replaced the thermal pads on their m15? My M17 runs cool on the GPU but the heat is pretty erratic on the CPU. So it definitely needs a repaste. My replace the thermal pads too since I'll be in there anyway. Just curious what thickness I might need.

My Area 51m died tonight..... Ordered through Dell on March 17th and received it on April 11th. i9 9900k, 2080....... I'm not a big gamer, my use was for video editing.... I tried the Division 2 for the first time tonight.... I played it for about 20 min. I had the fans set to performance. The screen went black, lights went out and that was it. Dead.... Never opened the case, and it was never modified or overclocked. Dell did the update to the bios remotely. This was my second issue with this laptop..... The first was the left trackpad button would stick when releasing making it impossible to move windows around on the desktop and highlighting text. I'm really disappointed, I liked the laptop a lot. Unfortunately, I will get a refund and wait until the kinks are worked out.

Dell updated the bios remotely when they were trying to diagnose the trackpad issue.... I'm assuming it was the 200W.

That's the issue. Dell increased the VBIOS wattage but did not adjust the voltage accordingly which is leading to these burned systems. Get a replacement if you can and this time do not update the VBIOS and ensure that they don't give you the updated 200W VBIOS on your next system or just wait until the issue is fully resolved.

5 GHz is when you're using 1 core. Often times you have many apps running in the background thus, more than one core is active most of the times that's why you'd rarely see the 5 GHz number. If you launch HWiNFO, you will see that the max CPU clock speeds do reach 5 GHz from time to time.

whelp, back to XTU and Afterburner I suppose... Would have been nice to have it all working in one single interface, not that AW CC's layout is the most intuitive anyways.
