    Pretty decent video

Have to admit I cringed watching box get opened upside down - but looking forward to future videos you mentioned ! You gonna remastered and put thermal pads on? Lots of views waiting there

Just got Far Cry New Dawn on sale and played it for an hour. Man, this game is beautiful on ultra settings with HD textures enabled! Playing with an OC CPU/GPU and 1440p and temps were amazing, CPU 72 and GPU 69. Love this laptop!

Only thing I hate about the game is how cpu limited it is, won’t use many threads and kills GPU usage and frames. But this engine has always been like this

The benchmark still had me running around 120 FPS average, I imagine that would be locked at 144 if I was playing at 1080p.

Benchmark is not indicative of actual performance. Start the game and get to towns and crowded forested areas, watch the GPU usage tank to to like 60 percent and frames cut in half lol. Especially at 1080p. It bottlenecks single threads and kills the GPU usage . Otherwise great game

Hey guys, I finally received my replacement RTX 2080 from Dell! Before I put it in and try to see if it works *fingers crossed*, I was hoping maybe someone could answer a couple of questions I have:

    1. On the plastic packaging, there is a sticker stating:
    [IMG]"Attention! Run G-Sync Setup.
    1. Connect AC Power
    2. Press Macro9 + Power Button
*No video if G-Sync Setup not completed"

I have no idea what the Macro9 key is, nor where it is located. I'm also guessing it means press and hold when the system is off?

    2. I remember a while ago there were people wondering which version of GPU Dell was now sending out. If someone shows me where the version ID, etc, is on the card, I will gladly tell which it is.

    Thanks!

Like I said in few threads, Dell BIOS are garbage and have amnesia. Every time you change or reseat anything be sure to use Reset BIOS to defaults and then save and exit for changes to apply, otherwise it takes a minute or even 10 mins to POST. I think it affects AW, Inspiron lineups.

So, just how does this bios fix the two already broken components?

That now brings up more questions than answers:
    Do we lose input 19V?
Do we gain the input 19V back with a new motherboard revision?
Was the system always slated for input 16V?
Does this also further hinder the system from stock?
Is this CPU input voltage? And if so, what does that have to do with the GPU? Or is this a system wide unchecked unregulated Input 19V just going anywhere on the board?
    etc, etc, etc....

Why the bloody hell will AW do that? Will the PSU flag saying incorrect voltage or something? 16v is the same thing as battery backup voltage. I think Battery boost will take over PSU's job 90% of the time with more downclocks for GPU and prefer more CPU perf to keep users happy. Well, RTX can handle any games at 4k on 800MHz core clock and 1000MHz mem clock. No one is going to notice the advertised clock rates, correct? Good Job, problem solved, case solved!! :nah:

This sounds more like a manufacturer's recall at "THEIR" expense!

That's like putting duct tape on your faulty steering wheel airbag mechanism and hoping for the best when going over speed bumps. That's a hard pass!

More likely they'll replace when people complain and that way it saves a lot of cash and RMA until a year when your A52M_rev0 come out with Dual SLI RTX Titan and Threadripper 128threads CPU running at 6GHz underwater along with BIOS update for 200-500W CPU and 200W GPU

Yes, but this sucks for resellers as well. They are now at the mercy of the manufacture while they still have machines out that are prone to failure. This is not a good situation for anyone!

I think Reseller should axe XPS and A51M from their stores. An appliance which will not serve its purpose is a garbage. Maybe unsold A51M can be used as a prop for Avengers or James Bond or as laptops as agents use since they don't about throttling and will wait until a year for faster hacking speed. In post production they will use CGI to speedup the hacking process....

I’m pretty sure resellers can send back machines to be updated or replaced. When I ordered from HID, it was the second batch and it came with the latest bios from the factory. This means all unit from 2 weeks ago and forward should be good units. Hopefully.

Hi all, i wonder if someone could help me with a couple of problems with my area 51m.
So, i have just done a clean install of windows 10 and everything seems fine apart from 2 things.

    1. alienware command center doesnt show cpu temp or clock speed in the fusion tab.

    2. alienware command center asks for permission everytime i start the application.

    any ideas?

    thanks

I dont care abour RTX, the performance drop is so huge that i cant live with that, maybe in a future that they realase an external RT gpu only for that purpose and only then they can give reall ray tracing without that insane compromise

Halo.....so if upon receiving my machine a couple days ago, I had to do the BIOs update myself, then it's First Batch and probably a problem? Is the Video Card the only issue?

No one knows. I’ve seen it being the GPU and motherboard. Just update to latest bios and enjoy the machine. There is no “batch”, I think the latest bios fixed the voltage issue. Nothing you can do to prevent future failure if it’s going to happen.

As stated in message, they’ve changed components - that’s what this ‘2nd’ batch is about.
So it can’t fix ones with bad parts. Best bet is stress test while under warranty...

Bios 1.3.2 was released March 28. Unfortunately we do not know if any systems died on this bios.

I've only read of about 2 or 3 systems that went bad since that date. I think the tally was 11 total systems between Reddit and here since launch. No possible way of knowing the total #s. Dell will lie either way if it is a lot or little, they simply don't believe in being open and sharing information. Not much mention of what BIOS was on any of them.

Its looks like another redditor had the same issue I experienced on my 2070, but he had the 2080.

Screen went off at random times, usually within 10-15 mins after starting the machine. Only difference is his machine wont power on at all anymore after having this issue for a couple of days.

So it seems there may be other issues with the GPUs (unless they're all related to a single issue.)

Replacing my GPU fixed the issue completely, been a week now and everything is working perfectly.

Since his wont even power on now, it seems that his issue is a combination of GPU and motherboard issues. He didnt report a burnt smell or sparks or anything like that.

Ehh, I didnt on mine as the sticker was on the opposite side. Didnt on my wife's either and hers was on the heatsink side. Doesnt seem to have any issues, though I'm sure it will help temps if you remove it. Maybe just move it to the other side so you dont lose it?

Also curious on people thoughts on deliding after watching this from gamers nexus

I’m sure repaste on top of his and pads on gpu if doing have higher return value. But seems like deliding might not be worth it for time / risk. Especially if using conductive paste and resealing ihs as that kills performance past what’s shown in video (But obviously a must if doing it on laptop as it moves around )

My read/write on my stock Toshiba 256 in synthetic testing is like 1600R/1400W.

The read/write on my 1TB 970 EVO Plus tests around 3200/3200.

I'll be RAID0'ing two of them once I'm sure they both work well.

People will argue you can't tell a difference/it's placebo, but in some games - it's rare, but some - you definitely notice a decrease in load times. Some that come to mind are GTAV, R6: Siege, and BFV.

Plus, with better IOPS and random r/w, I think the moment-to-moment daily use experience improves.

Is it worth it? Arguably not. But if we're paying all this money anyway, I think it's worth seeking out "best of the best."

How does Raid 0 work? I've never used it before. Can you partition the drives normally after putting them in Raid? For example, I'm thinking about about buying two 1TB nvme drives and put them in RAID. So, can I partition those 2TBs into any number of partion I want? Will the other partition get deleted when I try to clean install windows? Thanks got your input.

Maybe it will end up shelved just like Nvidia PhysX. I still feel your modded 1080Ti on AW 15 still surpass RTX 2080 in most benches and games.

Use AHCI and use them as separate drives since you won't even cross 4GB/s on laptops anyway due to less PCIe lanes.
Reinstalling windows or any OS will force you to delete all partitions and re-create the RAID setup once again!
You might as well use single 2TB NVMe SSD for better steady-state performance

Don't always trust TechPowerUp, they get mobile GPUs wrong a lot. It's soldered:

Maybe with Navi we might get lucky with an MXM or DGFF format card.

I would be shocked if there was an MXM3 Vega card out there this whole time and no one else seen it before lol

Maybe with Ryzen 3 we might see more laptops with those AM4 CPUs.

i have broken my raid up also to have a dual windows 10 boot, one for games/work.

dells os recovery software has 2 options the second windows 10 image will have no drivers etc.....so i used the first option and it downloads a cloud based image and installs it.

had to do that twice, i updated drivers etc and now have 2 perfect bootable options.

the cloud image does not contain the mcaffe anti virus that was included with my laptop when it was fully stock.

but anti virus is a virus in my opinion and i wont miss it.

also removed the 1tb mechical hybrid for a samsung evo 2tb .

boot times and loading from raid have not really changed so i wont miss it.

plus if ever a m.2 goes out i will have the second m.2 that should function , one other note is the dell skyhnix firmware updater for the m.2's kept freezing so i couldnt preform the update.

i think this laptop will last me many many enjoyable years.

enjoy your a51ms as i now i am.
