DGFF GPU is dying.... Might as well ask Dell for whole system replacement. The issue will get worse if you tend to use the machine longer.

All of my high end desktop builds when switching GPU's over to waterblocks I've always used fuji 17kw pads. Still have several out in customers hands with 780ti's that are running great. I replaced a 980 kingpin recently that i put fuji's on and they were still fine. Granted its water cooled and doesn't generate as much heat. If people are experiencing hardening it may be extreme heat related over longer periods of time? I wonder...

How? Is it premium Pro Support or standard warranty w/o phone support? 300$ is the price for 1 yr warranty extension which was quoted by Dell for my AW and opted out of it.

I know man, they told me 2 year extension is $250 USD and 3 year is $270 so the 3 year was a non-brainer. Done through Dell Dubai with their tech company that they use for system replacement, parts, and warranty named REDINGTON

it is the next business day on site support as you have seen in the description that I posted above.

Nice, I also extended mine after reading all these issues. I have one of the "first batch" laptops and have been gaming a lot on it overclocked and running benchmarks with no issues so far, hopefully thats a sign that she'll keep chugging along for a long time.

I updated both the BIOS and vBIOS the day they were released, I've played a good 30+ hours of gaming w/ overclocked settings on both the CPU and GPU since then with no issues.

So I guess it's not the VBIOS that was the issue of the machines burning but just a matter of luck?

Thanks a lot for the confirmation bro.

@custom90gt If you remember, the first unit I got, I refunded the next day due to the U key popping out and I didn't want to wait for warranty repair after spending so much money, they had no stock available but one display unit which I grabbed. I guess since that machines was on all day long for days, I'm going to go ahead and update my VBIOS

Yeah I remember the keyboard issue you had. Sadly I've seen that happen a few times in the past when I worked in a computer repair shop. I fixed a few for free (they can be a pain to put back on) from several different manufacturers.

I would update the bios. IMHO, if there is a problem with your hardware I'd rather find out sooner (within return window) than later. That's just my opinion though.

Sadly I'm going to return my 51M just because it's far to non-portable for me. I love the performance, but I don't play games while away from my home like I used to. And sadly there is no way I could take it to work as the battery life isn't good enough and it's too bulky.

I updated my vbios a while ago and probably have a good 40 plus hours of gaming and benching on it, no issues yet. This includes a ton of division 2.

I just talked to Dell support on Twitter. They say that this is expected on most of Area 51m's because the ePSA does not recognize the hardware config properly due to the way in which they are designed. Dell support says that this is no big deal and everything should be OK. And I have to admit, I have gamed REALLY hard on this monster hoping to make it miss a sweat but it doesn't budge. And there is not a single WHEA error on hardware monitor either, so I'm going to live with it I guess. Although Dell's local support guys have agreed to swap the motherboard and GPU for me but I really don't want to get into that stuff if my graphics card is fine. Frank also said the same on Twitter that 87 degrees are OK for this setup. Dell support also said the same. They say that this is designed to take temps upto 90 degrees for the GPU and I should just use the machine and not worry about it. And I have to admit, other than the GPU touching 87 degrees occasionally, I have zero problems with this computer. So I might try the replacement GPU and see if that fixes my temps but if it doesn't then I guess i'm going to live with it and put this baby under a nice sheet of liquid metal and call it a day.

They say 100C is perfectly fine for the Cpu as well. Would you run it this way? You're sure the new pads doesn't lift the heatsink off from the die? 87/90C GPU temp in Area-51m doesn't look correct.

The temperatures are the same after I repasted it, in fact I was able to drop 1 degree as it was running on 88 degrees when it came stock. And this is perhaps my 2 millionth thermal pad job I believe :D so I'm pretty sure I got it right. The next step for me is a DGFF and mobo swap and if that doesn't fix high temps, I'll switch back to my current DGFF and mobo and go the liquid metal route. Enough of running this coal mine. Time to slay the beast completely I guess. :p

It's with balanced fan profile. :D And I never said it was running at 60 degrees. I said it was running under load in the range of mid 70s to early 80s which you can see here. If I push the fans harder then it goes down a few degrees further. Whose 9900k runs like this out of the box? :p

    you said:

thats why i asked for screens ;)

and i would also like to see a hwinfo log for:

Iam just interested in your results as i also run a delidded CPU ;) thats no offence but when you post dream results you should be able to proof them.

 on my unit the fans, with balanced fan, start spinning at 90 Degree CPU temp… So your fans where on lowest RPM during the bench with 106w load?...

You can log the fan RPM with HWfino if you want to share detailed info :)

Nope, never go max unless I'm working with a screen that requires it for color accurate applications. My ex would get so pissed at me because I almost never turned on any lights in the house.

Unfortunately the sensor data for fans is not available via Bios and no third party apps can even see whether the fans are present or not. Regarding the results, I did the test in my living room beside the fridge without AC. Things change A LOT when ambient temps are 20 as compared to 35C. Plus, there is always some variation even in ideal conditions and I don't think it's worth it to go crazy over results as long as everything is running within the comfort zone and every game is pushing out insane frame rates. :)

unfortunately they are available ;) disable EC Support in HWfinfo Settings in safty tab.

nah i dont go crazy but you should be able to proof your claims ;)

otherwise user expect tempdrops of 20-30 Degree after delidding instead of 5-7 degree.

It's not even avaliable in Bios dude. Which bios are you running? I couldn't find a way so far to control these fans via third party software just because they don't appear anywhere in any of the softwares that I've been using, including speedfan, Afterburner and EVGA's precision X.

maybe you can describe under what conditions your 72 Degree CBR20 run and 5,2ghz benches with <85 happened.

I ask because you did not refer to the conditions… so People can think you benched at room temps ;)

This year I tried out the P775, P870 and 51m. 51m has been my favorite and no issues so far. Also, the 51m out of the box benched way higher thanks to the 200w tdp. No fires out of my 51m yet...

    @Papusan

This is my wPrime score on a fresh OS install. The moment I install all my other drivers + apps minus the AV, the score drops by 1 second

Quick question about overclocking in XTU. I only recently started OCing a month or two ago, and really only use XTU.

My question is, most people seem to adjust Vdroop, but I don't see them is setting in XTU. Am I blind or is it there?

Here is what I do when I OC for FS benches.

I change the multiplier to 50x or whatever I'm looking to get and undervolt core/cache offset.

I'm now going to try and figure out the lowest voltage I can get with 5Ghz.

Are there any other settings I should be adjusting in XTU? I'm not worried about AVX offset because none of the programs I use, use avx.
