This isn't based on every machine sold, as I have no idea how many they have sold, this is just based off the amount of people who have posted both good/bad things.
Between these posts (reddit/NBR) theres certainly at least 50% that have gone up in smoke. 95%+ of these are 2080s. Only seen 3 cases of 2070s dying so far.
So I'm just basing my analysis off about 40 or so posts. While this isn't a "true" analysis, it is still a very high number, and it's likely not everyone is reporting that their machine is either working great, or their machine has gone up in smoke.
Thanks for that! I hope I can get them to work!
So the one linked on page 729 worked for you? I have a feeling something within color management is a buggy for me if that's the case, but I'll certainly try your calibration profiles soon!
Thanks again.

So unit arrived today and I’m 90% happy. Was day later than rep promised furthest delivery date.
I also had sent order and rep sent invoice back. I kick myself for not double checking he somehow set color to lunar light not dark side of moon as I sent in order list
Torn cause love machine but just the preference of black was enough to choose- and now seeing posts with discoloring happening (knew would be issue but this seems fast) on white palm areas....
Still just sitting here letting the massive download wave of games and updates occur.
Curious community thoughts on if this happened to you. I already have email to rep- but unsure what path I will take. -
It's your preference. Personally I would go for dark color especially knowing my sweaty palms but it's up to you if you want to change it.

How is the lid flex on the 51M? Someone dare to make a video on flex-testing the 51M?
-
SacraficeMyGoat Notebook Evangelist
There's literally little to no flex on the 51m. -
Thank you, few days ago I was looking at the GS75 (I know a totally different beast but still...) and that one flexed like a banana.

Thanks again man. It actually worked this time, but I didn't really see a noticeable difference when making the profile my default.
Should I have noticed a decent change? I even had an image up and reset to defaults and back to the profile you sent and could still hardly notice a difference, so I'm not sure if it applied or not. -

Hi guys! I wanted to know if 75 degrees on cinebench r15 and 85 degrees on cinebench r20 are acceptable?

No undervolt and all stock out of the box? If so that’s decent. -
No, you won't. In case you want to check if the files work or not, you can run 240D50 version, it'll give you a big change. So that, you know it worked.
For the daily drive version, I notice the AUO panel is pretty good at white, black and gray already. And you won't see it over vividly like what you can see on your phone. The general idea is to make colors show more correctly, not always mean more beautifully.

@torax, you should make a backup of your old SSD and flash it to your new M.2. Ultra Male's backup won't help except your unit was bought in a same country. I checked the backup and it brought few small issues on USA laptop.
Use Macrium Reflect to backup your old SSD.

It is true that a lot of people don't know how to work on these systems and although that's okay, I do agree that the majority of them are spontaneous with very little in depth research before proceeding. I know this to be true based on my own data with my interactions with strangers that message me through many different portals.
Most of the common answers go as follows: "...I saw a post from _____ that they did this... so I did it too."
For the CPU, there are many ways that can work and do work. At least you take the time to experiment in getting to know your system.
Would you happen to have any pics of the paste job that they did? It'd be interesting to see...
I agree...that's what warranty is for. If it burns up it will likely do so well within the overall warranty period.
This is true, especially at the premium range with these high end systems. However, a perfect system does not exist. Even with those systems where the customer opts for a repaste / repad, they still can turn out bad as we can see from the users sharing their experiences here.
These systems are produced on a massive scale on an assembly line so unless they take measures to add in extra QC there, it's a far stretch to expect a perfect mass produced system, let alone the cost that will be carried on over to the customer.
As for the car analogy @martin778 I do see your point and agree to a certain extent, but that's in a perfect computer world, which does not exist. They could definitely up the QC so that the systems are equipped with good thermal paste and good quality thermal pads, but again... if no one in this sector is doing that, it's one of those things where you'd have to point the finger at EVERYONE, not just AW/Dell. -- Also, you'd be surprised on how many people do aftermarket mods on super cars... even after they've spent six digits on them.
Exactly. The reality is that most of these companies are very compartmentalized, so if one area screws up it makes everyone down the line look bad.
It's easy to point the finger, but without the proper understanding of how companies operate, playing the blame game card is the easy way to vent.
The willingness of those who choose to work on their system to improve it should not be something side liners who are lazy to learn to criticize. There's nothing wrong with taking things into your own hands... there is a difference between carelessness+laziness vs willingness+learning.
Yea the ports still get to me til' this day lol... I mean come on... my LG Gram 15 has more practical ports than my A51M ROFL... They just needed to add one more USB port on the left side and that would have made a huge difference. A little goes a long way.
This reminds me of the countless messages that I get...
User: "My system is overheating and I don't know why...:
Me: "Where is it located? On your desk? What's your ambient? Is there dust build up? etc..."
User: "No I'm gaming on my bed."
Me: *face palm* .... "Mmm ok are you gaming in bed as in the laptop is sitting on your blanket?"
User: "Yes..."
Me: ".... *face palm* ............................................
........" I'm going to go watch animal planet now where I actually get fascinated lol....
50% is a pretty high number... and it's gravely inaccurate. I think people are not taking into account the simple reality of, "The amount of isolated incidents vs the amount of units sold."
That was me.
1mm and 1.5mm is what is needed... but in some areas depending on the system one may find 1mm to work better than the thicker stock pad.

SO I see that there are quite some new drivers released, and as you guys mentioned the new bios.
However, the support assist app, still says no new updates. Does that app on purpose wait a certain amount of days before actually showing the updates? -
Hi
I decided to give mine another go when getting it returned in a week. They gave me 200 in credit and another two weeks to test if I like it before returning. I said yes because this laptop can be a huge time saver for me as I run a VR studio and travel constantly, loosing alot of development time at hotels.
I have a questions.
I want to later swap my 9700k for a 9900k. I can do this because we ship computers all the time for shows (desktops) so ill just put the 9700 in one and buy a 9900k.
1. Is it easy to repaste this machine? And do you need to repaste both cpu and gpu at the same time because cooling system cover both?
2. Should I wait a bit? Is a new Intel cpu coming out?
And lastly.
Any guides on how to repaste online and thermal reports of 9900k? I don't like to run in the limits of high 90''s celcius. Given that I wonder if I can just clock the 9700k higher than 9900 and make up for the lack of multithread.
My software uses multithreading (unreal engine and after effects) -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
Never trust an app to update your drivers. Follow the drivers thread I made it's updated daily. -
Yeah you need to repaste both cpu and gpu as heatsinks are connected.
If you search youtube for 51m teardowns you will find several, they show how to get the heatsink off, here is one:
The 9700k will run cooler than the 9900k given equal silicon, but the 9900k does have many more threads. It's a trade off.
If you trust the recent Intel roadmap leak then no, nothing 10nm for ages and 10 cores still a ways off. Now is actually a great time to be buying for future proof hardware due to advent of 8 core intel cpu's and RTX line both of which are firsts.Last edited: May 1, 2019 -
Why would you say to never trust an update app?
so far it proved rather useful to me, never had issues with it so far. that tool also does monthly device diagnostics and shows my warranty.
And it's rather weird for you to say Never trust an app. I mean your pc is full of apps. You either don't trust that specific app or that specific type of apps, or you are doing a wrong generalization.
Don't get me wrong, genuinely asking why you'd say that. -
Okay after a successful undervolt of the GPU, I thought I'd undervolt the cpu too simply for good measure even though my cpu temps are great.
So the i7-9700K, at cinabench R20 would get to 87 degrees. Did an undervolt of -100mV, and cinabench r20 temps dropped to 73 degrees.
Even though I didn't really needed the CPU undervolt, as these are still synthetic benchmarks and not real life scenarios. I mean during gaming I barely get over 70 degrees cpu temps. but thought, hey better temps and less power consumption is only beneficial.
So simply went for it. And since heat pipes are shared, perhaps it can also affect the GPU temps marginal after all.
So yeah. I did benchmark tests on Cinabench r20 and XTU its built in benchmarking tool. Is there anything else I should try to test the stability of the CPU at this voltages?

The only only stability test I can think of is to use the system as you intend to for the next few days. If there are any issues for example during gaming then you know to reign in the UV a little. Some of the more experienced users may have an actual software recommendation but for me its all about how stable it is under daily tasks and you using it as you would day to day. -

Besides being very expensive anyone already try it out? Should that be better als fujipoly? I can't find any info about it.
Or should i stick with Thermal Grizzly Minus Pad 8 A lot more cheaper?

My AWCC is not showing temp of course when in Fusion tab for OC. Well shows 0c 32f constantly and 0 MHz
Hwinfo seems to pull temps fine
Hearing issue one person had trying to reinstall I’m hesitant to uninstall AWCC completely to reinstall. Is this my only choice if I want to view this data here ? -
Do you have a screenshot of the settings you use? I may give TS a try to squeeze out some performance. Right now I'm running so/so at stock speeds and I don't mind, but would be interested in playing with it a bit.
