It's not really advertisement but a symbol of what's inside. Nothing really bad about it.

Both are good. It boils down to personal preference. I prefer Intel XTU over ThrottleStop.

Whats the max undervolt achieved so far..i tried -125 and replicated power failure..but system abruptly switched off .. seems like some issue with throttlestop

On stock clocks my 9900K undervolts by -165mV stable with peak temps lurking at around 75 degrees. At 5GHz stable across all cores, my undervolt is stable at -120mV with peak temps lurking around 85-86 degrees celcius mark with occasional spikes to 89 degrees every once in a while under extreme load. Yours may or may not have the same capabilities because not all CPUs are made equal in the fab. Try -50mV and move further from there. There is no easy way to achieving a perfect overclock and nothing like "one setting that fits all" exists. So you need to do it as per the liking of your particular CPU with patience and some trial & error. Before this chip, I had another 9900K that came from Dell and that one did not like to go below -115mV with stock clocks! With 5 GHz across all cores, it would easily cross 95 degrees with a slight undervolt of around -90mV and still throttle occasionally, even though it was a delidded CPU! Thank God I managed to sell that to a fanboy for just 8 dollars less than the price of a new CPU which turned out to be a silicon lottery jackpot for me lol!
P.S., I am using Intel XTU.

I paid about $80 for a delidded CPU, thermal grizzly conductanaut on CPU and IHS, gelid extreme on GPU and fujipoly pads on the heat sensitive area. I've heard a lot about their thermal efficiency and wanted to test it first hand. Also, I dont have the time to open it up and start digging around from the very first day.

In terms of your other advice, you post doesn't add anything of value to my question. I know it has been asked many times before but I was asking about the settings of the users of the same system as mine. I want to get a rough idea about the performance and thermal threshold of this configuration. I know how to use the search function of this forum, I've been here since 2011. And in terms of overclocking, trust me I've been running an overclocked 2920XM and a modded 680M on AW M17xR3 3D since 2011 as my daily driver so I'll manage me thinks.

If you have nothing positive and constructive to add, its better not to clog up the thread.

Thanks mate. I've already replied to the post above yours. My question was about the settings of the users of my config so that I've a baseline expectation of this system. Thank you for the link though, hadn't see those videos before. I've been using Throttlestop since UncleWebb first taught us the basics since the original BEAST M15x days. My M15x is still used by my little cousin till today.

My 9900k is at 4.8ghz all cores with a -160mv undervolt. Game stable for 2 days so far. Temps in heavy games like division 2 are 78 to 86C. Stock paste

I hope it does come into fruition. 2400 for 2019 is a joke when their Dell G series supports a 2666 chip as default.

I think they purposefully capped the speed to iron out the remaining variables before finally unleashing the full performance. It's a smart decision.

Its possible. Or they didn't want more systems getting fired up under normal usage.

I wish we go change the fan mode on this beast by using one of those macro keys, would be fantastic to switch between game mode and desktop mode by just pressing one button.

I too look forward to the 2666 unlock, but with that said, why is every one tripping?
There is no way you will notice the difference of a mere 266mhz on the RAM.
You might, and that's just might, get a smidge of a numbers bump in synthetics.
I know people around here are smart and know that this 266mhz isn't going to add FPS.
It seems like this is just a frustration based on two things, principal and just the desire to have "bigger numbers" in spec.
    Just sayin'

A question for you guys. As the iGPU is not used unless you connect an external monitor, does undervolting it have any positive effect on heat reduction or will do nothing?
And just another question regarding ThrottleStop, I have seen some videos where some people have checked the "overclock" box under FIVR/Turbo Ratio Limits (MrFox for example) and others leave it unchecked (Bob for example). What is the purpose of this option? Does it has any effect at all?
    Thanks

It’s more for the people who have 3000+ ram in their notebooks and want to unlock it. Also, the 2666 ram I have from Corsair can clock to 3000 with almost identical timings. 2400 to 3000+ with the right timings can make a difference when benching for records. Can even make a small difference in certain games. I’m also the kind of guy that likes having 1500 horsepower in my car even though I can only use 600 of it.

I think 2667MHz at 1.2V versus 2400Mhz at 1.2V where 2667MHz has a slight edge giving higher memory bandwidth at same wattage as 2400/2133MHz is great thing. If you're a person who uses RAM Disk all the time the improvements will be noticeable and once you taste higher freq you never gonna pull back to lower freq.

My replacement units 2080 is a complete dud for overclocking. My memory can only max out around +1100 and the core +150. How disappointing... Here are my bench results:

It’s pretty bad. My other 2080 did +1350 memory and +185 core. For benching it sucks, for gaming doesn’t matter. Or it could be the 2080 won’t clock high cause it’s slowly dying.

Wouldn’t be surprised, the 9900k is the max we will probably see in this version of the 51m, which is more than enough for a very long time. I’m more interested in the RTX 3080 lol

The price will probably be insane. By the time you are sick of the 9900k and 2080, it will probably be worth it to just sell and buy the next version; this is why I’ve never actually upgraded a laptop.

Not sure if been said already but saw where the dell precision’s were being hailed and how no issues there — wrrooongggg

Have had good 7730’s come in but have had two complete duds. One failed as soon as any gpu load- no fire but would just shut off. Other have various random issues. We tried on site service twice (full mobo/ graphic swap both times). Still random blue screens then a usb power surge issue when there wasn’t anything plugged in at all (not only then but we did that to test obviously)

Sad to say Dell is so big these margins of error are ok and just deal with the burn out equipment if customers get thru tech support

But gotta say Frank Azor does a tremendous job. Taking personal FB messages from rando’s and then getting tech support or whom ever involved to resolve issues. Big ups to him personally

I think the most they will do this year is drop another screen option or two into the R1. R2 won’t come till next year earliest. It also depends on when the 3000 series cards and comet lake launches.

Hey all, got my unit today (9900/2080/32GB/2TB RAID 0+1TB SSHD).

I discovered I have the LG panel--I've generally seen that the AUO one is the one you want . . . seems like a lot of trouble to swap out the screens, so I appreciate any perspectives on how much of a meaningful difference the AUO panel makes. Is it night and day, or just a little nicer, or somewhere in between?

Separate question: I'm planning to swap the Killer 1550 for the 1650, but clicking the Driver Details for the Killer in the Device Manager doesn't quite tell me if I already have installed the 1650 driver that Ultra Male listed in his driver thread (a clear version number isn't indicated; the numbers/format shown in Driver Details look different than what's listed on Ultra Male's link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/alienware-area-51m-drivers.827895/)-- is there a better way to see the specific driver you have installed?

Honestly, I upgraded mine and my router to Nighthawk AX12 and the router made a large difference with many items in the home but the speedtest on the 51m with 1550 and 1650 Is very close after 10 runs the 1650 maybe had a small 10 point lead. But it's a cheap chip to buy but just don't expect crazy results.

so is there a way to keep the undervolt under the Intel XTU? It seems like if I restart, it resets back to default and I have to move it back to -.120v.

you set the parameters that you want (ie. the undervolt) then hit apply, it would then create a task for you so when you reboot, you don't need to do a thing and the undervolt is automatically applied in XTU

I think I forgot to save the single drive benchmark from after the updates but the pattern was the same. There is a significant decline in performance for everything except sequential read/write.

For most people, by default F8 to boot into Safe Mode does not work on Windows 10.
You have to either hold shift when you press restart from within Windows 10, or you have to boot into recovery mode using a CD/USB with Windows 10 on it.

You can however re-enable F8 again by editing the BCD.

Compare 2400 MHz to 4200 MHz and see the difference.

I love case badges and stickers! They need to be appropriately placed though!

Needs to be Intel platform. Also linus already did this and confirmed 2666 is the sweet spot for price perf 2 years ago but the rtx series didnt exist then. Also ram is cheaper now.
