I ditched Kryonaut because of encountering a bad batch from Amazon last 2 consecutive times. I picked some Gelid GC Extreme instead this time. In ideal situations, the difference between Kryonaut and Gelid is within margin of error (half a degree, may be), but still better than MX4 which was actually working better than Kryonaut that I bought off of Amazon!

Hmmm I bought a 5.5ml tube of it just now. For 19 bucks. Think it's worth giving it a try?

Yeah, just pray that you don't get this from the same bad batch. I'd order some gelid too, just in case. These things remain usable even after kept in the drawer for years.

S.K I have a quick question. How much space between the NVME drives and the back panel? The reason I ask is I have a bunch of heat sinks for my other computers for the NVME's. Most of my heat sinks are 3mm thick overall. Also in general are the NVME drives running at a reasonable temp in you area 51m? Thanks in advance.

They were running quite hot and I had to order the heat sinks from Dell separately. Now my max temps are in mid 40s on these even under stress. I bought via HIDevolution. 15 dollars a piece. I think there is enough space for your heat sinks to fit. Just use a thinner thermal pad to ensure max heat transfer. Also, you'll have to see if the top notch of the heat sink fits well in the given holder above the NVMe slot. If it doesn't, then it'd be safer to order Dell's thermal pads instead as they fit perfectly and will not flop around inside.

You'll have to contact their sales team. A better way is to buy via HIDevolution. I believe they have these in stock.

Dell is the cheapest. $5 per heatsink. Everywhere else is $15-$25.

I completely agree with this sentiment. Its IS after all a full on desktop replacement with a proper 9900k! Remember when these chips first came out and people were compalining about how hot they run and that they were having a difficult time keep it cool even in a liquid-cooled desktop?
Now, people just expect it to run "cool" in a thin and light chassis like this straight out of the factory. These laptops are mass produced assembly line products after all (no matter how expensive they are) and it is the responsibility of each enthusiast owner to tweak their *own* systems to make it run as efficiently as possible. One should not take a "plug and play" approach when it comes to high powered systems like this.

I've a delidded LM pasted 9700k (avoided 9900k for thermal reasons, don't need HT anyway) on it's way with a LM applied RTX 2080 card. I wanted to experience Hidevolution famous thermal "upgrades" first hand and see if I'm satisfied with the temps. If not, I'll go Gelid Extreme route and do the pasting myself. I personally find opening up the laptop and cleaning her up very meditative and relaxing (sadly don't have too much free time these days though); it's like undressing your dream girl for the very first time! Its EXOTIC AF!

How fast do they ship? I am yet to order anything from them directly. I have heard from people that they take quite a long time before they ship things out and it is frustrating at times.

In the past, they've taken extremely long to ship things out, but that's because every time I asked if the item was in stock (they told me it was) and it wasn't.

So far I've placed two seperate orders for the heatsinks and they were delivered within 3 days. I'm in the US btw.

    Bummer!

Did you give them the item number? JV98R, give them that if you didn't, as they might be looking at the wrong product.

    Ok - found the fix.

Installed the new updated released the other day - Intel-HID-Event-Filter-Driver_9FT4R_WIN_2.2.1.375_A10_01.EXE.

    That fixed it.

Found the fix - buttons worked in bios, so i knew it was software related.

I have seen some questions here in the past related to what battery charging setting to select in Bios. I have tried them all and what I found to be the most likely daily driver for me is the Custom. I have set Start charging percentage to 65% and stop charging percentage to 75% so it will essentially stop charging the battery when it reaches 75% and let it drain thereafter until it touches 65%. At that time, it will restart the charging process. This is the optimum range where you get the most longevity out of Li-Ion batteries and if you don't use it unplugged that often, this could be for you. If you want a 100% battery though then you'll have to change it for that time.

Oh, from your previous post it appeared as if you had dead buttons lol. Glad it's not a problem anymore! I skipped reading the "after an update" part. My bad!

I have seen no announcements from Dell yet. May be @Donald@HIDevolution can share a good news with us.

Well Donald did say that the announcement won't be a public release so there's that. My machine was on hold for a week and yesterday it went to "in-production" so hopefully they did hear some positive news from Dell. Only time will tell I suppose...

Bro @ssj92 have already tested the Dell heatsink for NVMe ssd's. He can't see those ssd temp numbers in tests posted. Maybe @ssj92 can re-run tests and check again. http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...m-owners-lounge.826831/page-512#post-10882249

Modern batteries will not last if you drain it before charge it again. Never let the battery go under 70% if you have the charger connected.
Old type batteries, like 10 years ago, should be drained before charging...but not anymore. New materials in the batteries benefits from having it between 70-100%. Same goes for modern cellphones.

You feel me mate, haven't felt this impatient in a long long time. Imagine going from a 2920XM, 680M combo to a 9700k, 2080 ! My mind is prepared to be blown away! There is long list of Steam games waiting to be run at FULL blown graphics. I am sick playing in low settings. I had bought a Clevo 1080 last year but ended up returning it as it was too flimsy for my liking.

Just ordered the 502 light speed , and 1650 from amazon , waiting on 2tb evo plus then I can party . I wish we could run 4K at 120hz , I think it’s time to wake up loll

I'm sure the build quality is amazing on this one, AW usually have their machines built like a tank. I'm not a big fan of their soft touch rubber finish though, it seems to get quite dirty around the palm rest area when u sweat a lot. I play a LOT of competitive FPS like CSGO and Quake and sweat quite a bit so I guess I'll have to clean it regularly. My old AW also had rubber finish to it so I'm eager to see if things have changed in 8 years.

I've already received a logitech lightspeed G-305(its amazing and replaces my mionix castor) and a Intel 660p 2TB nvme and have also ordered a WD Blue 2TB 2.5" SSD. So, 1TB nvme boot drive(don't know which one, coming from Hidevolution), 2TB nvme media drive and 2tb dumping ssd should cover me for the foreseeable future.
The only thing I haven't order is more RAM as I'm unsure which 2*8GB sticks is coming from Hidevolution. I will take it 32GB after I receive my system. Hidevolution was kind enough to give me a free upgrade to killer 1650 so kudos to them as well.
I might end up buying a wireless mechanical keyboard as well if I don't find the default AW keys satisfactory for gaming. I usually prefer elevated keyboard so time will tell on this one.

So, there you go. Only thing missing is the actual desktop replacement. :)

I can feel your pulse already , just a few more days

HID treated me well too , during my order , some parts reduced in price and Ted reached out to me to readjust and reflect the new reduced price on my order.
That reduction came in really handy in getting some added spec to my beast .

I prefer controller gaming sadly , so waiting for an elite that works with win 10 Bluetooth , meantime am using the new Bluetooth dongle to Connect the elite but I hate seeing anything sticking out of the AW .

I hate that soft touch on the palm area but since I don’t use the keyboard to game , am sure mine will remain pristine for a long time

However I don’t think it’s as soft as the older AW models , time will tell

Is it worth requesting service at some point to check/swap the 2080 in my Alienware and possibly request a sceen swap from the LG to the AUO screen? If so, does anyone have a specific representative/manager or person at Dell support they recommend using?

Anyone try replacing the Killer chip with one that support wifi AX?

Any recommendations for a good cooling pad for this system? Preferably one that doesn't have a lot of cables to get in the way, or if it does, has a decent high speed usb hub built in?

Recently I set my Samsung Note 8 down on my a51 and the magnetic field for the stylus in the Note actually made the laptop think the lid was shut, causing it to suddenly go to sleep, even though it was only on the left palm rest. Is this a design flaw in the system?

Also bezels are leaving residue where they touch the edges of the system on the outside of the keyboard. I am not putting any pressure on the system when shutting the screen.

The displayport is the output that supports gsync, correct?

Any decent repaste guides out there?

Batteries in my old MSI GT80s were probably the least picky batteries I have seen so far in a high end system...

Do you know what the minimum wear level is to qualify for a replacement under the Dell extended battery warranty?

Can’t be a flaw, note isn’t meant to be there , however note is just showing its magnetic Properties , my MacBook also shuts down when I put it on some other laptop , just keep the note elsewhere so the magnets don’t quarrel

many are using 1650 now and enjoying it , so ur good to go , I have 1650 ordered

Can anyone tell the difference between LG and AUO displays? And there is a way to get specific display?

You are referring to the NiCad batteries here, I am not. Tests have repeatedly shown that 50% discharge and then recharge of Li-Ion batteries keeps the battery running for a longer time as compared to partial discharge followed by full recharge. For example, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, reports that using a reduced charge level of 50% SOC increases the lifetime expectancy of the Li-ion battery by 44–130% . In addition, Cycling between 85 and 25 percent (green) provides a longer service life than charging to 100 percent and discharging to 50 percent (dark blue). The smallest capacity loss is attained by charging Li-ion to 75 percent and discharging to 65 percent. This, however, does not fully utilize the battery. High voltages and exposure to elevated temperature is said to degrade the battery quicker than cycling under normal condition.

Here is an IEEE research paper that investigated ways to prolong Li-ion battery life per cell. Great read.

Why do I prefer occasional discharge below 50%? That's because every once in a while I prefer changing things up in order to avoid any form of electrolyte pattern creation in the cell from same charge and discharge over and over again. For that, I like just unplugging the wall charger at least once a week and run it down to 20-25% or so. The life of the battery only gets drastically affected in case of Li-Ion when you discharge it to such a point that the laptop turns off on its own and cannot be powered back until a charger is connected. That is a deep discharge and is no good for any battery and should be avoided.

Is the swap to a 1650 difficult or is it a simple operation?

Use a pry tool (or credit cards as many use here) to help pop the hooks open and when putting it back. Makes it a lot easier than just using finger nails and also takes the strain away from the hooks so they won't break on you.

How would a Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 9260 fare in a 51M? Ditchingthe Killer Wireless card? Or are there even better choices?

I used a pry tool ironically. The plastic is just that weak. Also there are a couple of small tiny misformed bumps/extrusions on the plastic rim around the outside of my laptop. Not really that noticeable except its where I sometimes lean my wrist or pick the unit up.
