    Even for a niche product...

"Hi, We are concerned to read this. Could you elaborate the issues on your system? Could you direct message me your system's Service tag, so that I can verify the details and check for the available options. How to find Service tag: https://dell.to/2VQR6WA -Vanitha"

Lol what a lame copy-paste reply from "Alienware Support"

Lol, and they keep asking me for the service tag in private even after stating clearly that I don't have any problem for the moment. I don't know if they just want to check if I'm a legit owner or just some sort or troll. Maybe I should tell them my service tag in case that's the only way they take the claim seriously.

" Description: This package contains the VBIOS for RTX 2080 GPU. It optimizes GPU performance and thermal behavior on Dell Alienware Area-51m system that runs Windows 10 operating system. It is recommended to update the BIOS to version 1.3.0 or later before installing this update."

    WTF... is this a joke??
If things are going to be this way then we should be able to opt for a full refund even when the return window is over!

All should post info from GPU-Z (New vs. old bios) and confront Dell (Aw) support, Azor and Umar etc with it.
    upload_2019-5-31_14-11-29.png

    Either...

    1) Damage control. Like this...
    2) Give Dell time to find the problem.
    3) Bugs with the new bios.
Increase clocks or that clocks run below default. But not really an error.
    Yea, Its called damage control.

The NVIDIA drivers won't change the GPU throttle set point, that's controlled by the GPU bios. Are you running the 200W GPU bios?

Mine does not show thermal limits for this tab?

Fan Profile? Full Fans but certain Games like Rage 2 hit 78-79 and drop to 500mhz, If i set a limit of 77 it throttles a few hundred but not 90% to where it is unplayable.

    Yes 200w vbios.

want me to load 180 and see if anything changes?

Now we just need someone with 1.5.0 and earlier to post their GPU-Z throttle set points.

You can, but I would keep the 200w and go back to 1.5.0 system bios to see if that changes anything.

So yeah it looks like 1.5.4 introduces a GPU throttle Set Point at 75C, just like they did to the XPS 9570. I'm hoping downgrading from 1.5.4 to 1.5.0 fixes that, then there would be a way to resolve it (at least for a while).

Well I'm glad you could go back. Eventually Dell will release a new bios with a new IME update and will probably block going backwards from that revision. My hope is we can sway Dell into removing the 75C set point for the GPU, but I wasn't so lucky with the 9570 (as can be seen in @Papusan's post). I would recomend against updating the bios on the 51M past 1.5.0...

Yeah. The latest bios update was intended to reduce smoke and burn up.

They say the problem ain't real (RMA or flaws is extremly low), but cripple firmware. Oh'yeah... They know. And AW's CEO Azor know it very well! Hence Quiet as an oyster!

They said it's to reduce thermals. Reducing hardware failures would just be a guess at this point since there are reports of at least one system going up when at idle. They did it to the XPS 9570 even though there were no reports of hardware failure. My guess is some bozo who dell contracts to do their bios says it's a good idea so that's what Dell does.

Everyone should downgrade while they have the chance. Only a matter of time before they lock us out from downgrading again.

A burnt GPU is better than a throttling GPU I say....

Reduce thermals will reduce stress on components. Aka they will have a longer lifespan. See.. Less RMA. RMA and tech support ain't cheap. Re-call of the products even more costly. They went for the cheapest and easiest solution for themself to fix a problem. See also... http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...-owners-lounge.826831/page-1101#post-10911459

And Dell use same engineers for AW and XPS.

Right, but speculating that it's the fix for systems burning up MOSFETs is just that, speculation. It could be people complaining about high temps which likely far outnumbers the amount of complaints about burned up systems...

Maybe its a bug with AWCC ? Because silent fan profile has 75 degree limit... Maybe its just a bug?

Man, I need to find a dedicated BIOS modder. I will start with an initial funding of $200 donation if they can get it working similar to them unlocked A17’s with the features we need.
