Google it! Too lazy. But good... if I recall correctly, it performs like a 970 Pro, but I think we’ll probably see a 970 Pro Plus or 980 Pro soon, upping this one in the process. But, for the money and for RIGHT NOW, I think this one is the one to get (25 cents/GB) vs the 980 Pro.

What were your settings for fire strike? And is that run on DirectX 11? Trying to see how close it compares to my brothers new Asus laptop with a 2070.

G-Skill 32 GB kit (2x16) from Newegg. $210. Has XMP, so got them in hopes of being able to leverage better timings if Alienware allows us somewhere down the line.

    Model: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 32GB (2 x 16G) 260-Pin DDR4 SO-DIMM DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Laptop Memory Model F4-2666C18D-32GRS.

I had been obsessing over getting the 3200 MHz sticks, but I’m afraid Dell will screw us and played it safe with the 2666 MHz that the Z390 chipset should support (heck, even they are shipping them with 2666 MHz sticks, capped at 2400 MHz for now)

Thanks for that. The retail price here is atrocious and they don't offer the 9900k at all!
    Check this spec and price:

    9th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-9700K (8-Core, 12MB Cache, up to 4.9GHz w/ Turbo Boost)
    16GB, 2x8GB, DDR4, 2400MHz
    1TB RAID 0 (2x 512GB PCIe M.2 SSDs)
    NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 2080 8GB GDDR6 (OC Ready)
    17.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) 144Hz Anti-Glare IPS Display w/ NVIDIA G-SYNC + Tobii eyetracking technology

    4,587 USD

Will not be ordering at this price!

Can't wait for LM repaste results. This is already looking much better than the 17R5.

In fact I'm curious to see how the devices purchased from HIDevolution perform.

Your first step should be to downgrade the ram to 8gb and the hard drive to 1tb SSHD (both the base options). That'll save you a few hundred and you can buy higher quality and capacity for the same price. That and get haggling!

No sorry guys, I only have the one ssd heatsink. If you ordered no ssd then you won't get any.
It is the same blade heatsink they used in the older 15r4/17r5 so should be easy to obtain. I have a spare one in my bits boxes which I will use for my second ssd.

And for the second SSD, I don't think you need a plastic insert (If I am understanding you correctly) the PCIe slot is there and a 80mm size ssd screw hole is also there, the SSD will go in fine without a heatsink but will just obviously run a bit hotter. there is no 40 or 60 location though but as 80mm is the standard this shouldn't be an issue

    ninja2000: Just so I didn't misunderstand you...

The machine is very silent under full load even with full power plugged in, not only 180w?

Reason I'm asking is that I have a Clevo today with great specs, but the fan noise makes not want to use it.

Hey guys any suggestion where to order heatsink for the ssd in the U.K.? I really thought they would add one extra, I think the 970evo would be fine without but I just want to set everything up at once and forget about opening again things etc.

By undervolting you are allowing higher frequencies, at the same or similar watts.

Only 1374 CB score? I get easily over 1400 on the AW17R5 at 4.4GHz with only 6 cores.

Doofus -I am undervolting st stock frequencies, so far I am at -0.1mv and it’s knocking about 30w off (90w instead of 120).

And you have hyper threading hence your higher score. I will run it again at about 5ghz and see what I get

You're getting more only because i7 9700k have 8 cores 8 threads vs 6 cores 12 threads. In multicore tasks I7 8xxx beats i7 9700k. 4 more threads gives you edge.

I am just using the default performance so not even the quiet profile and it is very quiet during benches. I am about to try bf5 so I will give you a dB reading once I do. With 1 psu it is almost silent.
I deliberately chose the 9700k/2070 as I hoped it would be quieter

This gave me flash backs to my old 17x R2. I had to buy the cable separate and caddy since my second drive bay was empty when I ordered it.

I also just remembered that day one I had to open it up because the crossfire 4870 gpu's were only running one card. When I opened it up the crossfire cable was taped to the connector but not inserted.

I'm sure Scan were offering one as part of SSD purchases. Not sure if that offer or deal is still ongoing but I'll see if I can find a link to the SSD heatsink.

EDIT 1: Haven't properly checked the specs as at work but is this any good - https://www.scan.co.uk/products/sca...at-sink-for-all-22x80-pcie-sata-and-nvme-ssds

EDIT 2: These popped up too, themal pads for SSD - https://www.scan.co.uk/products/silverstone-tp01-m2-m2-thermal-pad-for-m2-ssd-up-to-110mm-in-length

Papusan, I am not getting any temp readings from the PM981 SSD. I have tried HWMonitor and crystaldiskinfo. Could it be because it is set to raid in BIOS? I have never come across this before

I have bought a buinch off ebay I could send to you for free if you cannot be bothered with ebay, however there is no space in my AW17R5 for these, or for any actually. I could only fit a 1.2mm thickness aluminium plate over the SSD. Check the clearances first.

    OK, but from Tom's Hardware:

"Assuming a 15-20% uptick from HTT under ideal conditions, we'd hypothesize that an 8C/8T -9700K should be faster than the 6C/12T -8700K in most workloads. Then again, we already have the benchmark results to back our supposition. "

In other words he argues that the extra 6 threads ONLY buy you +20%, whereas the +2 cores buy you an undisputed +33% (2/6).

If the 9700/2070 combo can run off of one 330 brick at full power, I would almost surely be in for one. I got such a great deal on the 2080 though, if I was able to get a similar discount on the 2070 I would do it. Then I also have to buy a 330w brick... hmmm

That’s great news that our drives will at least fit. Yes I called it a “plastic” panel/something out of not knowing what it truly was. The fact that we can slot anything right in is a relief and it’s not an insert/holder. Only thing left is to either purchase some of those heat sinks somehow, or a third party (better) finned heatsink!

What is the part number on that stock heatsink? Could you provide it or a close up picture of it? I can’t make it out on the pic. I would appreciate this very much.

For me, the added raw power made me choose the 2080. The price difference is too small to get the 2070 is this case. But I guess the 2080 will be lots more silent than my Clevo at least and then everything is good. Worst case scenario; I'll return the 2080-model and order a 2070 build.

    Hello
Does it fit into Alienware vindicator SLEEVE 2.0 43cm?
I can't imagine that Dell offers you a deal between Area 51m and vindicator Sleeve, but in fact Area 51m show:
    402,6 mm (15,85") X 410 mm (16,1") ( @ninja2000 can you confirm it?)

    And sleeve with:
    17.32 x 1.96 x 12.2 inches / 330 mm X 431 mm

    It cannot match right?

The area 51m is smaller than the 17 r5. But it is a good bit longer. So might be a tight fit. The product page should have the INSIDE dimensions. So if those are larger than the area 51m you're golden

Your bold depth dimension is incorrect. It is approximately 320mm with my tape measure.

It seems a little smaller than a 17r5 so if that will fit the sleeve then the area 51m should

Of course, but dedicated access. for Area 51m are only available in the US, not in Europe. We have juste the choice of Vindicator accessories. And the Sleeve seem to be not fittable even if dell sell it with Area 51m.
