If anyone gets through the guts of this thing, I'm sure many of us would love to know how thick the thermal pads are under the heatsink for the CPU+GPU, and under the M.2 SSD heatsinks.

I have some Fujipoly 1 mm pads and am wondering if I’ll need another thickness.

    Much appreciated!

So who’s going to use liquid metal and see what temps and performance is like then?

Was wondering if you could tell me where you are located and when you purchased? Having serious issues with Dell and power cord and LCD issues (So they say) I ordered on 1/17

Gotcha seems like the US is having issues. Most of the guys in the US that I have talked to on reddit ordered on the 17th or before and are getting their orders cancelled and or pushed back to ship on 2/27 (was suppose to arrive 2/20 or before) Just wondering if anybody in the US has their hands on one yet.

They still have five days until they’re late. I too have my doubts but we could all be proven wrong still. Hang in there. It seems like most of us in the states don’t really have any idea what’s going on besides what our reps are feeding us. Frustrating for sure, but it’s still five days out for so many of us. I’ll update if my rep feeds me another bit of info.

So I finally decided to message dell support to check on my order since I'm in the US and I haven't gotten a phone call about cancelling my order or anything and my order is due to be shipped on tuesday. I was assured it was in production and will be here on time. A few minutes after I ended that chat I got this email that kind of surprised me but It can't hurt...

I got the same story. Not saying they're wrong but in my case they were. I called Order Modification Department at: 1-800-247-2076 and found out my original order was indeed on hold. So it's worth a quick phone call.

I emailed Dell this morning regarding my order (placed 1/9 and scheduled for delivery 2/20) and got an email back saying there was an issue with my order and to call order modification team. I called and after a bit of a run around I ended up with a "specialist" who told me that my order was taken care of by the backend team and I would receive the laptop and the power cord in a separate package as several others have described. I asked if there would be a delay and was promised delivery no later than 2/25. I guess now I wait and see if they can live up to this promise. If they can sort this out and deliver by 2/25 I'm ok with that, but if this drags out and requires me to make a bunch of calls my patience will wear thin and I'll probably end up cancelling. Obviously this is a luxury purchase and not a life essential so if Dell doesn't care about me as a customer then I don't really feel like giving them my money.

At the end of the day this is definitely a first world problem, I keep having to remind myself that even as I drool over the pictures of people receiving there units :)

    Update as well:

Called the modification team to see how things were looking. Was told that everything is fine with my order and I will receive it as planned. He also mentioned that chat and sales reps are behind on their information and if you want the legit latest info to call in to the order modification team only. Per the guy I talked to, everything is fine (he did mention that I’ll get power cables in a different shipment the same day as my laptop) and it’ll arrive on the 20th as expected.

I like to think one of the managers at Dell one day was like "STOOOOOOP canceling orders and ship the second psu seperate ypu simpletons! We're losing orders!" Honestly if they offered that to me I would've gladly taken them up on it.

I think people with their units should post some more glamour shots. Especially the lunar white ones. Lol

Canada.... The problem with with their system is that nobody knows there is an issue with the order untill you inquire about it...at least that's how its been with me... My original delivery date was supposed to be Feb 13th....and now it's apparently still not even built, nothing more than a order.

I actually didn’t take that quote and they emailed be back saying they had a better deal. I upped the hard drive config and total discount ended up being about 22% off. I didn’t have coupons nor know the rep as someone mentioned. I simply asked, and spoke with a manager as well.

    Ask and negotiate hard.

Hello everyone, this is my first post and not a happy one. I ordered my Area 51M January 11th, and it was supposed to be delivered by February 18th. I called in today to customer service and after getting the run around for over two hours, i was told i needed to cancel my order and place a new one because of the power adapter issue. Finally after talking to the order modification department i was told my order will go into production on the 18th and ship out at the end of the week now, with the power adapter being shipped separately. Dell has the worst customer service ever!

I don't see "Your custom-built item is complete." anymore. I hope everything is fine. Guys, who has this laptop, please answer few questions:

    How loud is it?
Does it have soft touch on Lunar Light?
Is there any damages on laptop?
It comes with any bag or other accessories?

    Thanks.

I should be able to let You know in 4 days from now :)
But to be honest I know they will have higher temps in benchmarks but from the other hand in games 9900k is way under less load then 9700k so
in my opinion for daily using/gaming there will be no problem.

Considering how well it cools my 9700k I am sure the 9900k will be fine at least in stock form. I think it might struggle to overclock unless you get a better heatsink than the 9700k

So... My 51m arrived yesterday... i got it directly from DHL (i cant wait and was calling them, so they dont need to deliver it, because im incoming :D )
I was so tired from work, so i cant really say something about it. But...

    * The system has a really nice build-quality
    * Screws etc. for HDD + 2nd SSD are included. 2nd SSD-Heatsink is not included
    * I made a new Install with putting in new SSD etc. So i forget to made an GPT (rufus)-UEFI Stick... only had an MBR (CSM+UEFI) and it didnt worked xD
    * A reinstall is a little bit difficult i think. First of all you need to install several Apps from Microsoft-store like Nvidia Control Panel, OC Control Center. Also i dont know if i installed it in the correct order, but i will test this machine today... :)
    * I cant install any Driver for 2080 directly from Nvidia. I am only able to install the Drivers from Dell.
    * Yeah played a little bit of Battlefield V.... Ultra Settings, ALL on(except RT,DLSS), DX12 and have constant 144Hz in SILENT MODE.
    * The Laptop is really a quiet one. If i you want that it should be loud... ITS REALLY LOUD.

Here are some Pictures... Sorry for the quality...

    Imgur or NBR-Album

Ahh i also have a screenshot from my Install-order.. So and advice?

    Install Order

When stress testing has the fan gone to max 747? Have you done anything naturally on it that has caused the fan to go that high yet or is it always quiet?

Everyone's waiting for thermals during gaming, general usage and heavy usage. Everyone is biting their nails off and becoming nagwares for their loved one for owning a legendary hardware on paper but none of them have an idea on how well it performs in real world.
