I was offered 820$ rebate from Dell so i took the bait.

    Ordered :
    i7-9700k
    RTX 2080
    16 GB Ram
    144HZ Gsync
    1TB SSHD

I'll add 500GB 970 EVO and 16GB Ram my self, total was 3700$ before taxes (Canada)

Hopefully it's a better laptop than all they have done during the past 5 years.

Can anyone verify the length of the 51m? Dell's site says 402.6mm in one place and 319mm in another. If the first, the unit would almost be square.

Same here! ordered 1/9 which has got to be close to as early as you could order and told 2/17 then 2/20, as of today sometime between 2/28 and 3/5. This is after being on the phone for two hours with them on Friday and being told not to worry the back-end team has this and you will get your order no later than 2/25. Given how much we are spending here on a flagship item you would think Dell would want this to go off smooth as success in your top tier products generally translates into success in the lower tier products. But, nah Dell just lies to its customer base and it seems no one in Dell has a clue as to what any other team is doing.

Say what you will about Apple but I've never had a delivery screw up on any Apple preordered items, they know the value of the customer experience when buying.

The joke is if you go look at Dell.com and order an Area 51M today they say they will deliver 3/7 a whole two days outside our delivery window. Dell don't care!

I get that some of you guys are pissed off by the delays but i don't get the hate, it's a brand new products and by the looks of it, it's quite a huge leap for Dell.
I'd rather wait and get a product that's done right over having them rush the product and be receiving a faulty product or something filled with problems.

Just relax, breathe and it will be there soon enough ...

Night and day different between those two companies for sure. I guess as long as we (the consumer) continue to take the abuse, they have little motivation to change it.

It has nothing to do with the delays. It has all to do with the customer service or lack there of. Customers are being lied to by reps, orders are being cancelled and people are getting 10 different answers anytime they inquire about their purchase. It's an expensive purchase and there is no harm in inquiring as to why delays are happening. I have no issues with a delay. I am very much in the "get it right before you ship it" boat. My issues lies with the way we are treated like cattle. No one can give you a straight answer to simple questions and there is 0 care in the effort/replies from the reps I speak to. I am respectful, polite, and understanding. It's not like I am calling in berating people. I just want answers for my 3k purchase and that's not too much to ask.

Well said Sir, could not have said it better myself.

When you sell a premium product at a premium price I expect quality service. Thats what you get with Apple, but with Dell all you get are lies, lies, and more lies.

Something with a long lead time has to be on back order or Dell is selling a lot more of these than they have anticipated and can't keep production up with demand!!!

Xotic is now saying ETA is the end of March now instead of the end of February / First of March.

They did this when they introduced the black color last gen too. Honestly I agree it shouldn't be extra. Then again is $50 really gonna make or break your choice to get the color you want? ;)

But other than they can. . .I Can't think of a reason why they bother charging extra.

What’s weird is white isn’t extra on the Canadian website, lol.

They must figure that we get enough snow to deserve white for free.

Realized that I was not going to get the full 3% discount for cash payment due to Xotic's TOS that if you buy items on sale you do not qualify for the full 3%. 3% should have been about $120.00 off. Realized I was only getting $57.00 off so I asked if I could change the payment option to Paypal due to with included bank fees for the wire transfer I would have pretty much just been breaking even so I might as well just pay full price.

The only way the payment option could be changed was by cancelling and then re-submitting the order so I had the girl I was emailing cancel the order. Went back to the website to put in a new order and the base price of the laptop has gone up $150.00 from $2899.00 to $3049.00.

Called and spoke to a sales rep and was informed that there was no one there he could talk to in order to see if I could get the laptop for the same price as my original order (that was only cancelled to change payment option on). He told me that the Area 51 is on back order and that Dell raised the price that they were selling them to Xotic for and they may not be able to do anything. His suggestion was for me to go ahead and place my new order, which I would be charged for immediately, and then send an explanation email to [email protected] so that they could reply to it if the powers that be deemed that I could get the laptop for the original price I got it for. Otherwise just be on the hook for $150.00 more.

Can't decide if I want to go this route or just not re-order.

I made some changes to my config as well and still think I would be getting a helluva deal. What do you guys think about my new config and new price?

Dark Side of the Moon - $4350.60
    9700K (old config was 9900k)

    Intel 9260 Wifi w/ BT 5.0

tldr; No bag will fit the new 51m? Dimensions on this seem enormous (especially depth?)

I saw an earlier post but wanted to see if anyone could confirm. All the specs online for the 51m show it being large. Laptopmag's review says: 410 x 403 x 27.65 - 31.2 mm (16.14" x 15.87" x 1.09")

    Alienware's site says: 1. Height: Front 1.09" (27.65mm) – Rear 1.23" (31.2mm), Peak 1.7" | 2. Width: 410 mm (16.1") | 3. Depth: 402.6 mm (15.85")

As far as I can tell, no backpack or sleeve I can find will fit this. Anyone have one in hand and can confirm dimensions? Any bags or sleeves that fit it?

I got mine for £2400 after VAT

    9900K, GTX 2080, 8gb Ram, 256gb ssd, 144hz g sync, Lunar white.

I think the prices have gone up as they are now charging £280 for the 144hz g sync when it came standard before.

My quote was £2456, that was 9700k, GTX 2070, Win 10 Pro, 8GB, 256 SSD and Tobi screen without Gsync.

Hoping to do a bit of haggling maybe get the Gsync screen without paying any more. The warranty prices are nuts, left it standard.

I'll buy SSD and 16GB ram from eslewelse and add that.

Did you need to haggle for that price or were you an early adopter?

100% agree. For all the time I been in sales business never ever had such unrespectable treatment to the customers. I don't understand why, at least I had customers that I know, I have no idea how to look in their eyes if I were lying them like these guys.
