I ordered mine yesterday and said March 7th latest. So apparently they hopefully got the supply issues worked out.

Delivery dates are all over the place, earlier today it said express delivered by 3/7, checking just now says express delivery by 3/5. I think they are using a random number generator for delivery dates
-
I ordered mine yesterday as well, shows it'll arrive March 6th. I'm in the US (Indiana)

Quick question for you guys. I'm decent with computers, but not an expert, I ordered my 51m with the standard 1TB HDD. I'm going to get a m2 and install it first thing and have the HDD as my non-game storage drive. I watched this video which talks about how to clone everything from the HDD to the m2 and it was super easy to follow ( LINK).
However, someone in the comments said, "Only thing I would add: you really shouldn't clone straight from a HDD to a SSD, because Windows automatically detects when it's being installed onto a SSD and will perform certain optimizations to take advantage of the drive. Cloning a platter drive Windows install onto a solid state drive will therefore result in suboptimal performance. You should instead create a fresh install of Windows on the new SSD, and then copy over any files you want to transfer from the old HDD (if any)."
Is this true? And if so, how difficult is it to do a fresh install of Windows on the new m2 and get all the correct drivers from Dell? -

Everki titan. I've been carrying DTR laptops to work for 10 years and the backpacks only last 2 years UNTIL I bought an Everki. This bag has been going 6 years and looks like it will go another 6.Latostno likes this. -
Indiana USA ordered on the 17th of January Was told delivered on the 20th of Feb. had the power cord issue and an LCD issue but pushed them and just got FedEx tracking that it should be delivered tomorrow. Shipping from TN to IN.
They wanted me to cancel my order but pushed back like crazy and get them to ship out on time.Last edited: Feb 19, 2019 -
who did you talk to?
-
I would advise strongly against it. There are so many reasons why one should not be buying right now, not until the dust settles. Reasons: it is too soon to have meaningful reviews, too soon to have proper feedback over 100s of users and 100s of hours used, too soon to get verification on version 1.0 of anything (eg RAM stuck at 2400MHz - who knows what else may crop up and fixed in later versions?), there is no UHD or even QHD screen yet, they may produce a 500W PSU to save you carrying two PSUs, they will eventually be able to ship and deliver in time...
-
Would the Everki Titan have enough space for the laptop and the two power adapters as well?

Direct Messaged Frank Azor on Twitter helped a bunch. Went from a order modification contact to a senior escalations manager and was able to get a discount for all the trouble I was having.euphoric28 likes this.

Google it, the thing is huge, you'd be able to fit that twice over.Latostno likes this. -
I’ve heard that but never seen it. Personally I like to reinstall a new machines os to get rid of blostware but that doesn’t work with dell and win 10. Google how to optimize win 10 for an ssd after cloning, also some cloning software automatically optimizes for ssds, it’s not really something that is a big deal unless you forget to do it...Halewafa likes this.

hi guys, first of all sorry for my english. i hope to be clear.
i was planning to buy an alienware area 51m but then i saw the size 16.1''x15.8''......... i realized that this beast is almost a perfect square ,about 3/5'' deeper than normal gaming laptop.
i live in italy so i try to find a backpack on DELL ITALY web site but fore some strange reason they sell only vindicator 2.0 that are not big enough to fit this 51m. i checked all around europe and looks like they sell only that.
then, i went on the US web site and i saw 3 different area 51m backpack and carryng case. i thought WOW we found something....... i contacted the technical support asking for the compatibility of those back pack and they confirmed that the area 51 will fit inside.
i was not yet sure looking the pictures so i decide to ask the space availeble on each bag and surprise.... ALL of them are around 13'' wide....... how is this possible? i have tried to look for different brand but looks like impossible to find a bag that can fit the area51.
in the end i cancelled my order becouse i travel a lot and after i pay almost 4000€ i want be sure to be able to carry the pc around whit me.
Did somebody find something? looks like even the support doesn't know nothing about this issue. -
I was talking over sales for a mode modest and optimistic option (8700/2080) but the cost is still way too high.
Was going to get the white color since it's nicer but kinda confused when the sales said it was +$50 more. -
Sorry if this has been mention but what is the make/model of the NVME drives that come in the Area 51M?
Also wasn’t there meant to be a 2060 version of the Area 51m coming? I’m very CPU dependent but a casual gamer so that would be ideal! -
Great, thank you!
-
Whatever dell can source the cheapest at the time of purchasing.
Although you can take advantage of warranty and request specifically a samsung drive to replace the faulty non-samsung one (if you do get it). -
is not wide enough for the laptop
-
FrozenSolid Notebook Evangelist
Absolutely. It is huge. I carry the laptop, pens, a note book, 1/2 litre of water, etc, etc.
I usually carry the bag over one shoulder and all the vindicator and other bags would start tearing at the shoulder strap within 2 years. I've had my Everki now for 6 and it looks like new. I can't recommend it enough. -
if you have a chance can you check the size for laptop space? are they at least 16.1''x 15.8''?
searching on internet looks like is only about 13.5'' wide -
FrozenSolid Notebook Evangelist
I'm sorry but you are wrong. My current Clevo is 16mm wider than the Area 51 but the Area 51 is 24mm deeper but it will fit without a problem. I just placed my lappie in the bag and measured it. It has over 25 mm extra room.VoodooChild and Michele Lubrano Lavadera like this. -
I guess it depends on config as well.
I ordered 9900 with 2080. Most people aren’t popping for the 9900 so may be available sooner. -
It’s a Spinal Tap reference; basically everything goes from 0 to 10, but one of the musicians has an amplifier that “can go up to 11”, so he thinks it’s more powerful/better, even though it’s just a number painted on the knob.
It’s a stupid joke, basically saying “push it to the max!”jclausius likes this. -

Can anyone confirm if the 330W power supply for the Area 51 is the same unit as the 330W power supply for the Alienware M18?
-
I can confirm 100% next month
But I can say with 99% confidence now that it's the same. It's been that same 330w adapter for a longggggg time.FrozenSolid likes this. -

I'm currently in "chat" with Dell trying to get a second 330W power supply (to leave at work) when I buy my computer and they are saying the power supply isn't available in Australia and to wait until I get my computer and then ask the parts department.
LOL
He has just suggested the approved PSU is - Alienware™ 1500 Watt Multi-GPU Approved Power Supply is for the Area 51 -
There's also an Area-51 desktop. Maybe they don't realize you're talking about the Area-51M lolPapusan likes this.

Can anyone provide me with the part number of the 330W power supply that is supplied with the Area 51m or can someone confirm that the 330W power brick from the Alienware 18" works with the Area 51?

Thanks @Papusan. I've followed the link you provided and the 330w power supply for the Area 51m is the same as the Alienware 18".
The Dell Australia parts website doesn't list the Area 51 but all is good now.Last edited: Feb 19, 2019 -
I love how they're using a picture of a 17x R2 instead of the area 51m. Lolssj92, euphoric28 and Papusan like this.

Well I've ordered an i7-8700 + 2080 with the 144hz non G-Sync screen.
-
Just opened chat, asked for two of them and got an invoice. Should be here by the 28th.
He did also state they were refurbished... I have absolutely no idea what that would entail for a SSD heatsink. -
When can we expect a QHD screen with 120/144 hz and gsync for this laptop? I am using the 17 R4 with the QHD and it will feel like a downgrade with the 1080p screen
-
Iirc there is a shortage of displays right now, so whenever that is dealt with.
-
So @DellCares responded to my complaint that I tweeted to Frank Azor. So should I push for an upgrade to a 2080 in compensation for the delay on a laptop I'm paying less than $2k for? I'm not going to get it but I'm still going to aim for it! lol
-
Screens are rumored to come second half of the year maybe after June/July sometime. That can change of course.
Do you have them side by side? If so can you post pics to compare? As far as I know the QHD 120Hz displays were crap. Color gamut was bad, there were slighting issues with lines on the displays if using something like Chrome you can see.
I'd take the 1080p 144Hz panel over the QHD 120Hz panel if it has better overall quality. 1080p doesn't look bad on a 17.3" panel at native res. -
What is the source of that rumor? As far as I knew, the only thing we had to go off of was Azor on twitter replying to people asking about screens. He basically said nothing to announce, but hopefully later.hmscott likes this.

I've seen/watched so much Area-51M stuff that I couldn't point it out. I believe the screen thing was on twitter. Keep in mind there was no month mentioned only time of year (ex 2nd half of 2019) etc.
I doubt we'll see anything soon, I'd love a QHD 120Hz 100% AdobeRGB Display, but doubt that'll happen.
15" OLED is coming. I'd be shocked if 17" OLED came as wellhmscott likes this. -
Did anyone confirm that 51m doesnt fit in the vindicator messenger bag?

I believe the only Alienware/Dell bag it has been tried in so far (according to this forum) is the Vindicator 2.0. -
surprisingly little input from the happy owners here...
thought there would be a flood of pics, benches, temps etc in here...

I thought there would have been unboxing videos and a load more pics etc. To be honest though, its not something I'd be able to do very well if I had one, so I shouldn't moan.
