My way is getting the 4 year warranty and 4 year accidental warranty thru Dell... ;)

It is also my way of combating next gen CPU and GPU not being upgradeable in the future... ;) ;)

You cannot upgrade it like you can do with the cpu or ram, that’s what I understood from your question

There is a difference between easily or even cheaply replaceable vs replaceable. It's just like Apple will tell you that you can't replace the ram or hard drive in an Imac and that they are the only ones that can do it.

Generally screens aren’t easy, user friendly upgrades, but provided the connection is the same/compatible and it still physically fits, it’s no sweat.

Well as you have noticed, running CB over 7 times, finally generates some extra heat which cannot be removed, and you start to get throttles. Running demanding games may be similar, the combined CPU and GPU heat will create a situation where you may get throttles. On the "older" AW17R5 (is it a year's old?) this manifests with some VRMs getting too hot after long playing sessions and starting to throttle. You can also help things in games by tuning the CPU down as many games do not much care, but you get much better CPU temps that way.

I was told that the MacBook Pro 13 which I bought for my wife a few years ago cannot be upgraded in anyway because everything is soldered, including the RAM.

The thing with the big heatsink makes me worried now... Does @Err0xx really have the big one? What do we have to order to get it? Can we order it separate?...

which is true for most of us. However if you have the skills and the parts/tools it is possible!

edit: But you are talking to an ex-Navy engineer so i've had to do some seemingly impossible things with the crap I had laying around so I know that "can't be done" is dependent on your skill set and, well.... balls!

I have the same issue sir with HP. When I load or updating the BIOS fans spin faster at Max RPM but when gaming or benchmarking fans are at 70 % of what they actually capable of. I have the HP Omen 17 model- Pavilion lookalike. Its seems to be a Dell and HP problem as well :)

When flashing BIOS fans get the full 12v. Otherwise, your laptop is trying to stay quiet and just keep heat manageable. You can just override fan speeds with various programs and force it to whatever you want though.

With SMDs all over these days it would be very hard to pull out a defective chip and replace. I know it can be done with heat guns, reflow ovens, magnifying glasses and what have you... Like people used to repair the faulty Xbox where the soldered CPU would develop cold joints. I make PCBs with some SMDs and if I make a mistake on the MOSFETs for example I just throw the PCB away, as I do not have the tools to remove them once soldered. Maybe I should buy a soldering station...

I hope only 9900K + 2080 is needed for it...I kept base ram and hdd because I'll upgrade those myself

Same here. ordered yesterday and upgrade to 32gb corsair 3800 ram...
Let's hope the big heatsink does not depend on a ram/ssd upgrade... i would immediately cancel my order...

Unfortunately I cant increase max fan speeds. HWINFO or any other program doesnt allow adjusting of fan speeds for my HP Laptop and my BIOS is severely limited. My fans reach there highest RPM when the CPU reaches 90 + degrees Celsius but fortunately I repasted with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and my temps stay under 85c degrees while gaming and even lower to 78c degrees with cooling pad. If only I could max out fans to 100 % but I guess it wouldn't be good on the longevity of the fans so it's not entirely a negative issue hey? :)

As long as you’re not going over 100% (like say, MSI’s coolerboost does), I doubt it would be that big of a deal. I’m not sure what the lifespan of the fan would be rated at, likely maximum hours at 80% or something like that.

Well I didn't do a stress test for long, But for the one test I ran, the highest temp was 80 degrees C. En GPU didn't even reach 60.

But it was running for a couple minutes not long, I will do a lot more tests and benchmarks this weekend and next week. I still have to transfer and cleanup all kinds of data transferring from my desktop.

The fans were audible, when putting on my open back headphones (Philips fidelio X2HR), I couldn't hear it anymore. But it wasn't loud.
I did do a bios update when the fans run at max speed, then it was loud.

    I’m getting both the area-51m ( 9900k-rtx2080) and the MSI gt75 titan-013 ( 8950hk-rtx 2080) on the 27th. I have 5x 2TB Samsung 970 evo. Will install 2 of them in each system.
1- will do unboxing video first.
2- then video of the internals showing the slots and heat sinks ( 7 or 8 pipes )
3- then the gaming benchmarks, loading times, sound comparison and some more tests.
    Wish me luck

Which fan mode do you use for Gaming? In silent mode the fans are really quiet, but in balanced mode they can get annoying around 50 dcb

worder what Dell means with RAM overclocking ability? Because 2666 is stock speed for 9900k... Ram overclocking starts with 3000+ XMP

No, will test both and keep the best option one coz i do not think any of them will be poor. the performance will be close but just the options will help me decide the winner.

So I manage to open the box , have my machine 2080RTX /9900K out and run throo the first start up/set up.
    First impression:
Build quality is fantastic and solid
Keyboard is amazing and it felt like is design for gaming.
I didn't test much but i will do for sure , specially in games.
I can say that SHDD drive is piece of crap and and thats the first thing what must be change.
1080p, 144/gsync panel doing great job,
Everything fits perfect inside Alienware Vindicator 2.0 backpack.

Using your service tag, can you guys list the part number used for the CPU/GPU heatsink?
Just go to support, enter your service take and look under "current configuration"

As written before, in my case the fans in balanced mode are very loud at 53dcb, in quiet mode 43 dcb, but Ian not sure which effect the fan mode has performance wise

    OK so my thoughts.
First find the proper configuration req to get the 8 bar cooler.
    2nd using 9900k <-- which I'd choose.
    3rd delid
4th install this for direct cooling. http://www.performance-pcs.com/der8auer-intel-9th-gen-oc-frame.html
    5th using liquid metal repaste
6th possibly magical temps in the laptop.

Direct Die cooling FTW? All mobile versions of cpus use direct die because its efficiency is far superior. Why not we do what works.

I have asked them to be honest, told them if i order the same specs again the cost would not be the same as my original purchase because they are more expensive now due to 144 hz screen is now costs extra and they have offered me this.. Thats actually what they should offer anyway for customer satisfaction..
