Any advantage to go with 2x32gb on the RAM vs 4x16 if price is only a little bit more?

    128GB RAM is supported, correct?

Alienware CC is misleading. Check your XTU while CC is applied. CC is setting for 6 active cores, and core 7 and 8 are set lower.

Maybe because AW CC was designed for 6 core mobile cpus?

With everything going on with CC I am so glad I picked to get a clean install from HID and don't plan on ever DL'ing it. Will use XTU/TS for overclocking CPU and Afterburner for the GPU. Might also give EVGA Precision X1 a shot as well for the GPU.

Maybe a stupid question but I somehow disabled my touchpad and I don'g know how to enable it.
This is a user specific setting.
When I lock my screen, or boot my pc and am not yet logged in, my touchpad works and lights up properly.

But the moment I'm logged in, it doesn't work anymore. So I think I somehow have it disabled like in the Control Center? But cannot find such a setting.

I checked in device manager, and the touchpad is there and is working properly, is not disabled.
Any ideas where such an option might be?

    EDIT: I feel stupid. It's fn+f11

For what it's worth, I did the "RAID-to-AHCI"-trick without reinstalling and it worked just fine. Later on, I did a clean install in AHCI and that worked fine too. No real benefits either way, both ways worked out without issues.

For anyone that read about my laptop having to reboot anytime I run on one adapter unless I switch it to standard charging, I got my response from support. And it was the standard "Is your computer plugged? That is very much common mistake. And update windows." Beh.

So they do atleast know it's an issue. I'm talking to my sales rep and he gave me a number to call. So I'll give that a go.

    Guys... guys...

So, I ran to Michael's to grab some art supplies and it's attached to a MicroCenter. So I ran in even though I don't need anything, and they had a 9700/270 51M on display. I loved it, and was surprised by just how much.

I'm not gonna lie, while I have a 9900K/280 model on the way, there are all kinds of worries I have - especially considering the price - that meant even when I ordered, I did so thinking there's a decent chance it gets returned. Dell just gives plenty of reason to worry. To be clear, there were NO games installed on this machine, so things like performance, thermals, throttling, etc - which are super, super important - were unable to be judged.

But on pure build quality? Wow! It is much smaller than I expected. Don't get me wrong, it's an absolute beast compared to my 15" MBP or SB2 - but for a huge desktop replacement, it's considerably more svelte than the ones I remember from just a few years ago. The keyboard was exceptional - truly, truly great - and so much travel vs everything else in the ultrabook space these days. Zero flex at all - the entire wrist rest was just as firm as my 2017 MBP. And what surprised me the most? A tie between the quality of the trackpad and the performance of the display. The trackpad wasn't ****... it was actually, dare I say it... pretty good? I'm a HUGE stickler on trackpad performance (why I'll always own a MBP... Apple does it best), but this wasn't bad by any standard. Accurate. Quick. Perfection actuation point. Too small... but performance was great. And the screen is 1080p, and yeah that sucks. But 144hz is great, the colors popped more than I expected, and the viewing angles were WAY better than I anticipated. It's a big drop from my other laptops, sure... but it was the best 1080p display I think I've ever seen on a laptop.

More excited for mine to get here than I have been since ordering. Jealous of those already playing with theirs.

Edit: Sounds exactly like something support would say.. hopefully they fix the issue. Goodluck!

BTW: There is a 15% discount coupon for Alienware computers that's going on right now. Can be applied to A51M. Its "Paypal15". Applicable to first 500 users. Also doesn't look like you have to use PayPal. Nice chunk of money on a A51M.

Well I found a work around and changed the charging settings to standard instead of adaptive. So right now I can unplug it and replug it in as much as I want. No issue. But @Ultra Male pointed out that the long term could lead to my battery overcharging and hurt it's health overtime.

Honestly it doesn't bug me too much. I'll replace the battery down the road if it's needed. But, I will be pushing to make sure this might get fixed in a future bios update so anyone else experiencing this that is less tech savvy than myself can have it fixed.

Really no big complaints other than that. I probably noticed this so quickly as I've been running around the house and using this like a normal laptop. Heck right now I'm in my living room typing this all out.

My XoticPC order is STILL cheaper, by about $150.

However, the Dell order adds a 3rd year of warranty.

What do you guys think - 2yrs + LCD accidental warranty from Xotic, or 3yr/3yr accidental from Dell? That's really what the decision hinges on for me right now. I could cancel my Xotic order and have the Dell order probably 2 weeks earlier.

I just don't know... but I don't want to regret something later today.

So I went ahead and ordered through Dell. So now I have two orders - one through Dell, one through Xotic. Both 9900K/2080.

The Xotic has dual SSDs and pre-applied Thermal Grizzly and FujiPoly for $200 less. 2 year support + 2yr LCD-only accidental warranty. Arrives early April. Bonus points for US-based support.

The Dell has a **** hard drive and I'll have to re-paste myself for $200 more. BUT, it comes with 3 years support + 3 years accidental warranty. Arrives by 3/19. Negative marks for overseas support.

I'm going to replace the SSDs and RAM regardless, so that's kind of a wash.

    Thoughts, everyone?

Total cost is $3,554 at Xotic; total is $3,764 at Dell.

I went through 3 chats trying to bring Dell down further, but it just wouldn't stick. Nobody could offer me more.

Will probably cancel one here soon.

    Yup that's exactly it ...

Tried changing the settings with XTU and for some reason it asked me to restart in order to apply the setting.
Upon restart XTU opened and told me i couldn't apply the modificiation.

So it looks like XTU is somehow locked.
Do i have to remove Alienware CC in order to be able to use XTU?

Ok so I think solving the overclocking issue with the transplanted 9900k might not be that big of a deal. I didn't pull the cpu. All I did was take out the battery and pull the cmos battery. drained the power and let sit for about 30 minutes and put it back together and problem appears solved for now. I'll update if anything changes!
    overclocking.JPG

Edit: I also reimaged a drive with the original image. After deleting that image I immediately got a message telling me overclocking has been disabled. It seems there is something that is in the original image that ties the overclocking in. So yea there's that... stock image + cmos clear = overclocking ;)

I would go with $3,554 at Xotic

Feels like less hassle and better stuff.

Also I brought mine with my credit card so I get free accident warranty for 5 years.
I live in sweden and sweden has crappy credit cards with no bonus points etc. Only some travel and electronic warranties.

I hear alot that USA has great credit cards, how come you guys not using them more and get free warranties and isntead pay extra for dell warranty?

She just put the smack down on pretty much everyone with an A51M. So let's not hear of any more excuses. :D
Edit: Let me explain. She just beat 99.8 percent of all of you! That's Clevo/MSI/Alienware/Gigabyte/TongFang/Asus/Razor. LOL

So let's quit acting like the A51M is not viable in the right hands.

I wanna see her CB scores lol, too be fair @Johnksss I haven't run any OC GPU/CPU 3DM runs yet :p

Also could you tell me what physics score you get with 5ghz, 5.1ghz and 5.2ghz?

@thattechgirl_viv What was CPU clock speed & GPU clocks? Also clean windows install or AW install? Also what was used for OC, AW CC? TS? XTU? etc.

It's nice to see Area-51M not being a slouch. I knew it would perform well... ;)

Now to be fair, whose fault is that? :D

When you submitted scores pretty much already said it wasn't a slouch. This is why more "real" users need hands on. And we also need to do away with this "Manufacture Factory Out of Box" category.

I'd love to do more benches but need some more time. Got some school stuff to finish then I got surgery Saturday. Maybe Sunday I'll have some interesting results? :D

I asked Mr. Joe to increase power limits for CPU on twitter lol

Also could you PM how y'all are getting the RTX 2080 undervolted etc? I quickly tried to do it yesterday using afterburner & 1080 method with curve and idk if I just have a bad quality 2080 but it wouldn't run below 950mV for factory clocks. It's hitting power limit constantly

Some 2080's can go as low as .0650-0725 (low power) on most cards, so you should be able to pull a .0850.
Just do a simple test and lock 1850Mhz at .0850 and see if it holds through a benchmark.

R6 is pretty CPU heavy, curious how the 9900k/9700k do at maintaining 100+ fps.

well i have a clean install running. What i've done is I have a clean install on my raided ssd's and I just have the stock image on my spinning disk and I have shrunk them as far as i can and i'm using the rest of the disk for storage space so you just end up losing a little bit of space. You don't have to boot to it. It just has to be there.

Oh and now a new problem (I'm tempted to send this back just because of the buggy software!) anyone have a problem with the alien head power key not lighting?

Edit: Thinking of installing a switch on the CMOS so i don't have to pull the battery every time I have a problem!!! Between about 10 CMOS resets and a AWCC repair or two I finally have it working again.
