Does anybody have Final Fantasy XV? I'm curious if the 9700K + 2080 can max it out at FHD with everything including gameworks turned on.

Trying to work on my score for my 9700k/2070. Any tips? I think I'm #1 at the moment for Firestrike, but my Timespy is pretty low compared to others. -
Well the 15% coupon led me to reorder with some different specs on the memory/ssd/hdd combo. Thanks for that coupon!

From my initial test
5 ghz seems to be the sweet spot for the 9700k
5.1-5.2 seems to be the upper limit.
I'm stable @ 5ghz with 1.24v and -100mv undervolt my temps are @ 30 while idle and around 70 while benchmarking.
I was able to push at 5.2 @ 1.35v but I wasn't willing to try higher than that as I would instantly reach 100C.
As for GPU just push it to the limits.
One thing to note is that Alienware CC will boost the first 6 core to the OC value but the 7-8th core will be -0.3Ghz so if I can find a way to make XTU or TT works I should be getting better results since all my core will be at the desired clock.
I was scared before receiving my units that the Area-51M would be running hot all the time and would thermal throttle like crazy. So far it's not the case everything is super smooth , the gaming performance are incredible.
Past a certain point yes it does throttle and yes it get hots but it's to except from any laptop at this point.
I feel like past 5.1-5.2GHz the heatsink is the bottleneck. You can delid/LM that beauty but it won't probably change the fact that at that voltage the whole heatsink is burning hot.
I feel like 200W GPU and possible 2666mhz ram would benefit us a lot more in day to day usage than increased/unlocked CPU power limits.Last edited: Mar 7, 2019SlickDragon, Richard Bortz, Sherif_k and 3 others like this. -
What method did you use to OC your 2080?
TS works fine for me. If you want to undervolt just be sure to move both core and cache sliders. Set multipliers under FIVR. -

Thanks for the detailed response! I'll try those settings on my 9700k and see how it goes.
Are you running stock past or? I might repaste with Kryonaut tomorrow as without an UV of -0.0900 I hit max temps of 92, average around 70. With the UV max is 80, average is 70. Not bad, but wanna bring my max temps down a bit.SlickDragon likes this. -

I have a delidded 9700K on the way from HID and can't wait to see what I can squeeze out of it. -
So i disassembled the display panel. not really good at taking photos. But i tried to give you guys some ideas. I bought the 60hz 1080p model, I was confident that i will be able to change the display. its not as easy as AW17 R4 but it is possible to do so, if you know what you are doing. Its all glued inside and need a lot of patient. good thing is there's pull tab to slowly remove the adhesive but the bad news is, it rips off very easily. left side is particularly hard because the display cable goes on top of adhesive. the display is 30pin edp B173HAN04.2. I think the 144hz model is 40 pin connection someone can confirm me for that. I will buy 4k display as soon as its available to buy, i think i also have to change the display cable. Any question? i will try my best to ans.

How much RAM usage are y'all seeing at idle after full startup?
I'm seeing almost 4GB being used doing nothing (~3.7GB). Sitting at 4.1GB right now with steam and chrome open with one tab. -
I didn't see anyone else answer your question, and while I can't tell you how the RTX 2080 is connected, I can tell you my RTX 2070 is connected at x8.

cant be more than 8x. The 9900k has 16 Pcie Lanes. 4x for the SSDs, 4x for AGA Port... so 8 left

So I tried this on AWCC (CPU 1.24V, 5.1Ghz, -100mV, and on GPU +100 core +100 memory) and it blue screened during the test/save phase. -
The cold (or hot) hard facts:
In comparing Johnksss's Clevo FS run vs thatonegirl_viv's 51m FS run, we can at this point ascertain:
- The 51m's 2080 execution is about equal in terms of power and cooling as the P870tm's, if not ever so slightly better.
- The 51m's 9900k execution is either restricted on power, or hindered on cooling potential, but most likely both. Memory speed, and in turn bandwidth, is also contributing slightly to the overall deficit vs the Clevo.
I mean; this is all what we already knew, but good to put it down on the board. With more power released to the GPU in the near future, scores should increase further with additional tuning on a well binned RTX... since the GPU cooling has a lot of headroom in the 51m. However, even with more CPU power afforded, if it ever even will be by Dellienware, additional extreme cooling measures would be required to utilize any of it... The 9900k is thermally constrained in the currently shipping 51m design already.
I'd like to see a 51m with a SL binned/delidded 9900k on a chiller (or other frigid means) hit the bench, so we can prove what kind of power delivery is actually there and can be sustained.
Keep up the good work everyone! Thank you.

Gutted about the 15% code, only seems to work in US though. I tried for a week to get them down as much as possible but 12-13% was all I could manage, the 15% would be an additional £70 off

My SSD arrives tomorrow. I'll run them once I've reinstalled. I don't think my Area-51M came with the heatsinks so if not, I'll order them and re-run benchmarks once more.
SSDs ran very hot in my AW 13 R3 , I expect it to be much better in this machine.
The Area-51M does have a CPU ceiling. I hit VR Current Limit in TS limit reasons already. I think it was at 5.2Ghz.
Once I'm home this weekend I'll try and go higher than 5.1Ghz and see what happens. I'm thermally limited right now at 5.0Ghz.
GPU wise Area-51M will be one of the best with its 200W TDP. Right now it's performing well. I've hit around 28XXX GPU score thus far but my GPU seems like it's a bad bin. It took a lot to get to 28XXX score. I suspect under 50C it should be able to score 29K but we'll see about that soon.
Also I believe the Clevo is limited to 150W TDP right now. I don't think @Prema / @Johnksss have broken out of this yet, idk. If not then his scores are quite impressive considering the AW has a 190W limit.
@Johnksss I tried to undervolt. I was only able to do 1830Mhz @ 0.850v in firestrike.
Everyone here seems to just be increasing the clock slider and some of them have reached 29k just doing that, so weird. I feel like locking voltage and clocks to a specific value doesn't work well with this card. How do you normally do yours in the Clevo? Core offset, lock a voltage/clock value or full on manually manipulate the whole curve?Last edited: Mar 8, 2019 -

I'm running Stock paste, i have Kryonaut on hand but i feel like repasting will be a waste of time.
Like i said at 5ghz i get 30C at idle 70C while benchmarking and 65C while gaming.
At 5.2ghz i get 100C instantly so i doubt the paste would chance anything, the heatsink is probably the limitation.
Tho if you want to run your CPU @ 5.0Ghz and try to save a few C go ahead and do it but i'd rather not change mine as i'm really comfortable with those temps.
I may order some Grizzly thermal pads and change all of the pads and paste as some points in the future
I feel like it will probably be about the same, maybe you'll be able to squeeze 5.1 @ 1.25V voltage, that'd be great.

Start by finding your best GPU overclock value.
On my 2080 mine is +175/+200
You can start with +125/200
If it works go +150/200
It it dosen't work go back by 10 untill you find the highest value that works for your card.
Once you got that done, i would suggest trying 5.0Ghz @ 1.25V with -100mv undervolt.
That will give you a solid base to start overclocking with.DannyB513, HookemAZ, Spartan@HIDevolution and 2 others like this. -

I went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered yesterday with the 15% (I am in US). I've never seen a discount that high without being military/Dell employee so I couldn't resist. ETA is March 15-20. Build was 9700k, 2080, 32gb ram, 2x256ssd, 3yr/3yr warranty/accidental. All for under $4k..best price I've gotten for going on similar setups on my past two alienware laptops. -
I'm surprised you only have a +175/+200 on your gpu. I figured you were using msi afterburner and pushing it further. I'm at +100/+200. Then I just copied the setting alienware used for the 5.1 cpu overclock in their profile 2 as I've run games like that without any issue. I honestly got anxious and just start playing games. lol. I'll see if I can match this.
-
Yeah, going to have to stop you right there. They are in no way shape or form the same in terms of cooling the gpu. The P870TM1 is far superior in that department. This is undisputed.
The A51M is far superior in terms of power to the gpu over the Clevo. Clevo 150W vs A51M currently at 190W. That is also undisputed.
I wanted to see that at CES, not 3 to 4 months down the road. That way one knows what they are working with. (Chilly temps)
The undervolt was a test, but where you guys seem to be making your mistakes at...The gpu is capable of 8K memory.... I think you better have a closer look at the scores and you will see...All you low guys are not even running close to the same clocks.....
Side note:
Halogod is the current GPU record holder with an MSI.

anyone know if any of the m.2 slots will hold a 110mm? I have a 4tb nvme but I doubt AW went over 80mm.
-
Next step is to get rid of Alienware CC and start playing with XTU/After burner and crank those even higher.
+175/+750 should be easy to get on the 2080 i believe.
Also 5.2 all 8 core should grant a good boost compared to the 5.2 on 1-6th core and 4.9 on 7-8th core.
I'll do some testing this weekend with AC unit and more, i believe i can probably push my 9700k/2080 in the 24,500 ground.
The A51m is a great unit, i finally feel like Alienware made something decent.
Hopefully we get some more support and bios update down the line. -
Yeah, I canceled my previous order that was delayed. I ordered that one with 15% cashback through ebates but I was getting nervous that it wasn’t posting.
Ordered a new one last night with the 15% off, plus I was able to go through my company’s portal (instead of ebates), so got an additional 2% off plus 8% cashback. Not bad!Kormi likes this. -
I wanna know the exact way to get this score...
All settings need to be made public..
Damn bro 17% off total price + 8% cash back is insane discount... -
How'd you snag the extra 8%?
I can also go through my company portal for 2%, but it doesn't work with Cashback sites because I have to hit the link from within the portal. I was pretty happy with 17% + 3%.
I got the 3% for being a Dell member. I know there's 6 if you finance. Curious where 8 comes from. -
What model numbers are the sodimm ram chips and the toshiba nvmes that come with the unit from Dell?
Is it really worth swapping out the ram and the toshiba nvme to something else? -
Mentioned the 15% in an email to Dell and they refunded 3% off my order. Discount now stands at around 16% pretty happy now

I don't work for Dell, so that's going to be a big 10/4 negative!
And it's kind of clear that you have not been reading this thread? As the answers you seek are right there in front of you i'm afraid. And those answers are even written in the last few pages....(not trying to clown, but being serious here)
Also to add, it has already pushed past the Clevo in terms of gpu overclocking.... -
This will be my last overclock test for today. Got the gpu to +175/+200 and the cpu is at 5.1GHZ with 1.24v. I'll play with it more another time. Probably once we get the 200w bios revision.
Like I mentioned though at 1080p there isn't much to be gained by overclocking for gaming. Just more heat. I would tell you guys what it's like with my 3440x1440 but I'm enjoying it enough I haven't tried yet.Rei Fukai and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
So it looks like the previous QHD/UHD panels are only a couple of mm larger but still will not fit in the A51 frame ? And for this 2-3mm Dell has designed a laptop that cannot use the existing panels?
Sounds a weird (idiotic?) decision...
