9700k. Which is why this is even weirder.. I can turn fan performance mode on, but the CPU performance option is greyed out.

Edit: Not sure if it will change anything, but I might reinstall tomorrow. Been having other issues with drivers not wanting to download, or I download and reset and it still says I need to reinstall.

It just works. Trying to set the memory will result in it just resetting back to 2400 or 1200 what you see in most software.

@Err0xx spam the whole 3Dmark Fire strike leaderboard with scores from the aga and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.

And none of the results is done with his 5.3GHz

Seems like a bug that needs to be fixed. If the 2080Ti is rendering then it should also display that in the results.

    Trying different vbios this time.
150W is good for 29.8K under great conditions.
28K to 29K seems to be the passing zone though.

    I'll check on that tomorrow

@Papusan and? We dont know how fast the fans where spinning... if they ran very slow then thats normal cause we have 1 shared heatpipe ;)

i havend said that i think that everything in this video is correct, i just shared it. When i have my own unit i built my own opinion... you should do the same ;)

Great, you have a Clevo P870 and it is as fast or faster than the AW51m. Bravo. Why don't you go tell your Clevo friends, that's what the CLEVO forum is for.

Like on the Alienware 17 forums previously, dozens of bystanders totally unrelated to the product and mostly with the intention of slugging off the particular Dell product.

Does this also happen on the MSI or ASUS or other forums?

Coming to the Dell forums to tell people how great the Clevo is, is in very bad form. As is posting vitriol and hate for everything "Dell". We saw it clearly on the AW17R5 and is like a campaign to slug off Dell products and create negative impressions. Can the "crowd" just eff-off and go slug off MSI or ASUS for a change?

First off, you seem to be wrong. I'm not the one showing off anything. That was a friendly gpu competition with a forum member over here.
Second off, I was not here to bash the AW17 other than bash Dell for gimping it after the M18X/M18XR2/AW18.
Third, apparently you haven't been paying attention in that the A51M gpu had better results over the Clevo.
And last but not least of all. You can take your feelings and (we shall use your words here) eff-off. How about that? I'm certainly not here bashing the A51M, never have. But I will bash Dell at the drop of a dime for performance gimping! Yes, I am 100 percent guilty of that.

Say, Captain save a Alienware. Why didn't you cry about this post?

I'll be posting my review video this weekend and I'll be sure to be specific how each thing was tested including which fan curve was used.

@Johnksss hasn't said anything bad about the Area-51M as far as I know and he's been here along side me and @Mr. Fox during the M18x days. The Area-51M has shown to be a good machine.

So far we've only hit the limits on 2080 due to TDP. I'm sure @Johnksss will push the i7-9700K to it's limit and figure out how much current we can put through it until we reach the firmware limit.

I plan to do the same with i9-9900K.

Interesting....my previous AGA set-up was reported correctly: https://www.3dmark.com/fs/13653218

Oh did y'all get through flashing a vBIOS? Or just tried flashing one from a different vender?

Also in terms of GPU OC , do you use the offset or do a custom curve?

I agree! I've been bugging them for years to get that fixed.

eGPU users should NOT be bunched up in the same category. It's so annoying...

Please message them guys... we need to poke them more to get on with fixing that... :p

I'd say the 51 forum should be honored to be graced with the presence of the world's #1 laptop overclocker; I see his posts getting likes from 51 owners as recently as tonight which suggests to me an open invitation's been extended to post here; what rubs you the wrong way clearly rubs others the right way; I wouldn't bother to browse this place if KingJohn & others like him did not post here regardless what they're posting or why or where; I expect, more so hope to see everyone on this list below to find their way into this sub-forum to read, like, rep & post messages given they represent - verified - the most helpful members 'here' & in turn have also won the popularity contest as it were; popular helpful supportive members like KingJohn are what drive people to this forum & help this place earn its online reputation, where the custodians & owners of this public, and it is an open-to-the-public forum, can & do gain valuable AdRevenue which makes people on this list, in turn: valuable assets indeed, bringing in an audience & keeping an audience here, entertained & informed on a weekly if not nightly basis

A condition of me being a member here & coming back year after year is my ability to see anyone post anything anywhere anytime they please, without nonsensical interference from anyone for any reason since it's a public forum by design under moderation. People who wish to have an 'exclusive' club can go to Arena; people who wish to make NBR an exclusive club should start their own forum, this is a public forum, where all are welcome

I've read all 452pages, I've seen one trolling incident, from a non-owner who lost interest, left & never came back. Otherwise this lounge is inhabited by AlienOwners past present & future, discussing loved & hated products and the meta that surrounds this loved & hated company

Thankyou for posting here @Johnksss & for your thoughtful words @ssj92. The most popular helpful supportive members deserve to be in threads like this, lounges like this, sub-forums like this; given the state of affairs regarding sockets & slots I expect most or all to come here to critique, lend advice & opinion as it should be, whether it's good bad or ugly I care not, I am here for the content they produce & am thankful to have it ... ... ...

What are your initial thoughts on why a 150w 2080 and a 190w 2080 are performing identical in graphics scores... literally within 1/10th of a %?

Do you suspect they actually are both drawing the same actual wattage, regardless of their max advertised tdp? Or is the Clevo running so much cooler during the run, enough that the silicon is allowing for the same GPU Turbo clocks and turbo duration even with the 40w deficit?

Also, do you have temperature plots and actual core clock plots from each the clevo and the a51 during the FS runs that you can overlay? Would be awesome to see how similar or different they are.

    Thanks Sheriff!

    Totally agree!

It caught me off guard to when I refreshed the FS Results page... I was excited, like WHAT DID I MISS OVER AT NBR? SOMEONE CRACKED THE A51 vBIOS AND PUT HER ON THE LN2!

    .....Then I was sad. hhahahaha

Wow, almost looks like they've removed the base options forcing people to go with the 16GB RAM, 256GB M.2 with 1TB SSHD and Tobii/Gsync panel, adds about £200+ to the previously available base model.

Uhhh...so never mind. It is running fine this morning. I'm thinking that the built-in FPS counter from EA is misreporting the FPS. I used a 3rd party one and it is showing the right numbers and we're running at 80-100 FPS. stupid EA.

Mine did the same thing, I had to pop my original untouched drive back in and the performance option came back (I have no idea how or why this fixed it, or it was a complete coincidence)... I read another fellow had to simply unplug bios battery and his option came back.... That might be your best bet.

I had to check. In Sweden they did same thing! They took away 3 of 8 varitions so now we have 5 to chooce from! Min 16gb ram, before could pick 8gb.

nice, they bumped up the prices if I see correctly with min 500 euros the cheapest config that were before.

If I check mine config, they added 330 euro on price and you get 8gb more ram + 1tb 2.5 normal hardrive......
    Glad mine will arrive tommorow.

    It was @euphoric28

He had swapped CPU's several times and it wasn't working right for him. This is how he fixed the problem.

"Ok so I think solving the overclocking issue with the transplanted 9900k might not be that big of a deal. I didn't pull the cpu. All I did was take out the battery and pull the cmos battery. drained the power and let sit for about 30 minutes and put it back together and problem appears solved for now. I'll update if anything changes!"

Post is on like page 403.

All you would have to do is call Dell and tell them u want the cheaper model that is no longer listed on the site. As long as you don't give up on the price they will sell it to you because they don't wanna loose a sale. Also with the Paypal15 15% and the Save12 12% codes expired today it could also be likely they sold out on the base models to places like xotic & HID.

    Check above what i said.

    Thanks for the advice.

I already ordered and it will arrive tomorrow! I got the 9900k and 2080+ 256gb m.2 so I no need hassle with windows reinstall on new ssd.

In Sweden its not same as in USA and UK. In Sweden there is no sale rep for private persons, only online!!! As small businesses you can call sales rep. Gues how much they offered! 4% discount Max, this was according to the sales rep best possible discoutn and they would lose money on me, haha

Later I found out I could use my student discount for 10%. So I did and ordered.

I both have a small business and am a student :) Just for clarification.

the drive will still be in Raid mode. Performance is minimal gain though so really up to the user if you want to install the samsung nvme drivers and have magician able to see the drive for FW updates then you will need to reinstall under ACHI mode.

So funny thing. My order was delayed until 20/3, original date was 15/3. So Dell gave me 10% on my order for the hassle. This morning I checked on my tracking nr and it says that it will be delivered 14/3. Yay! On a side note, I ordered it with 512gb ssd and the hybrid 1tb. If they installed win on the hybrid where can I find Windows, if I would reinstalle it on the ssd?

    Ok guys and gals,

I'm seriously considering purchasing one of these laptops with a 9900K and RTX 2080. My question is why I should go the Alienware route over a similarly spec'd and priced Clevo (I will use the Eurocom Sky X7C as an example, but the same chassis can be had from other Clevo resellers as well). Both laptops are "fully" upgradeable. The X7C has a UHS-II card reader built-in, can accept and run RAM above 2400, and I'm not sure if it suffers from the power/power supply issues I've seen some Area 51M users write about here.

For the record, I bought an Alienware 17R4 for my son a couple of years ago, and I have my P570WM...so I have no allegiances to either manufacturer.

    So...why go Alienware?

When you get the laptop you can use the service number on it in the downloads section and get the windows to install according to a few others like 80-90 pages ago on this topic

It depends on how you look at it. Both 150W/190W gpus can instantly hit the max TDP and start the power throttle without even over clocking in most cases. It's more so how each handles power throttling.(Room temps play a serious role in this) Also depends on the overclock and what optimisations one does to achieve said score.

Also to note, people get lost on the scores as a number. Numbers chasing is fun and all, but at the end of the day you look at the FPS score. They are all within 1 to 7 FPS of each other (Extreme bench excluded). Literally. And in the grand scheme of things gaming, This makes them all even if they all maintain 60/120/144 (Depending on screen installed and G-Sync enabled)FPS in games when applicable.

And no, they are forsure drawing said watts, but more so how they pull those watts also makes a difference. We see it as a card whole, but not sure which components are pulling harder. Memory or core. One can gage this by setting clocks to one or the other and check the power draw. There needs to be a balance to get the most out of it when constrained to the marketed TDP.
I did not see this as well. LOL

Sometimes, even when it makes you reboot it will stick. This depends on how XTU is enabled in a bios. A hasle yes, but i gather sometimes "they" think it's needed.
And if you make changes sometimes it will try to set something else, will also ask for a reboot.
I like this. Glad I was able to help you achieve that, else you might have kept thinking +175/+200 was the best your machine had to offer. And a very nice improvement on Physics, but we already knew your prior score was how you say....Not that good for the overclock on AC.
The rock is back. (+1000 Physic score and back to 1st Graphics score.)
But.... No young Grasshopper. The Rock took another Smack Down"

One more. The bar needed to be raised to a worthy level.

Now i just need to run my simulations on an A51M with 2080 and surpass my Clevo.

Just an FYI, not sure if anyone did this or not. If you get the windows activation issue and you were on WiFi, go wired and run the activation trouble-shooter link. stupidly simple, yet effective and it worked for me.

Dunno how you achieved such a huge bump in graphic score.
I'm guessing you messed with the Vbios, that's an amazing achievements and there no way i can beat that.
My GPU is 100% maxed out as it is ... i can probably score a nice bench and get +100 points but i can't reach 30,700.

Can you give an hint as to how you achieved that?

I caved and ordered one. Reminds me of the old AW days in the 90’s updating order page for the “next phase” update..
