Sooo.. Checking updates on Area 51m and this shows up in support assist... Apparently AW 17 R6 BIOS update... lol.

Download or nah? And are they secretly working on a 17 R6, or is this supposed to be the 51m?

    It's legit:

    https://www.dell.com/support/home/u...wt64a&productcode=alienware-17-area51m-laptop

    Look at this...

    Fixes & Enhancements
    Fix:
    - Fixed the issue where an incorrect panel resolution information is displayed during Diagnostics.
    - Fixed the issue where the CPU frequency does not override when using the Customization option for overclocking.

    Enhancements:
    - Firmware updates to address security advisory INTEL-SA-00185 (CVE-2018-12188 CVE-2018-12190 CVE-2018-12191 CVE-2018-12192 CVE-2018-12199 CVE-2018-12198 CVE-2018-12200 CVE-2018-12187 CVE-2018-12196 CVE-2018-12185).
    - Improved the compatibility of storage devices.
    - Updated the Intel Microcode to version 0xAA.
    - Improved performance and thermal management to support higher graphic and CPU power consumption.
    - Modified the Graphic controller information in BIOS setup.
    - Supports the Alienware On Screen Display (OSD) application version 1.3.3.0.

This might be the 200W BIOS update...

Considering I paid $2400 after taxes for mine with 9700k/2070 16GB RAM 144hz 1080p gsync/tobii. This seems like a pretty good deal. I would pull the trigger.

Has anyone ever returned a customized laptop to Hidevolution? I just wanna see that I am reading the return policy correctly. It's 30 days for a return with 10 percent restock fee correct? Unless it's been damaged by the user?

You guys are happy with your systems? I'm really itching for something new but I don't want a massive disappointment like the Alienware 18. Is the chassis metal or plastic?

I’ve owned a AW13r1, 14r1 and 17r5, 17r5 is still in use. Compared to those the AW51m is a big step forward. Can’t speak about the AW18 though but i’ve owned quite a few Alienware’s.

So yeah i’m pretty happy with this system.

To those of you who owned M18x and Alienware 18, is Area-51m a worthy upgrade? Chassis quality is very important, I like the solid feel now that I've been spoiled by Razer Blade Pro, but I need more power

Didnt the Razer Blade bend in your case? Every blade that I saw and got moved often was slightly bent.

The 51M has a magnesium outer shell, But the back part of the laptop is plastic.

I'll be a little late to the party, but I'll be there. :) Things have been crazy lately as we all know with the ordering fiasco, but no worries... I'm glad to see all this data and thanks for making your data available... It'll provide a nice upper base line to reference off of.

I've had my hands full lately in the desktop world with something related to the 9900K. :p Sneak peak.

Build quality is good. It's not M18x level but it's much better than the others on the market (Clevo, MSI). I haven't owned a razer blade so can't speak form that.

Dell has a 30-day return policy. Just order it already :D

Anyone still having issues playing games such as destiny 2? I could use some help, as I've followed the instructions but they aren't working.

I updated to KB4482887, had issues with frames in destiny 2, followed the guide to uninstall and it's still having an issue.

Now I see windows put out an update to fix that issue, but when I check updates I don't get anything.

The new fix is KB4489899. I tried to download the Standalone version of this and it says I already have it...

Can someone with more experience please help me out, just trying to play Destiny 2..

Well some aluminum can be quite soft, other can retain its shape well. I hear very mixed signals.

I might buy a Razer blade to take with me when visiting customers and turn it into a Hackintosh but I worry about the build quality tbh. Cant find anywhere what series of aluminum they use.

I've owned pretty much every Intel MacBook/Air/Pro variant since their release in... 2006? The A51M isn't quite near Apple's best. That said, it's absolutely even with the Razer Blade 14" and 15". I owned the 14 for a bit, and my buddy has a 15", and both are rock solid for sure, but there are a few finicky observations that put it a step behind Apple (hinge resistance and firmness, palmrest flex when you intentionally push against it, "even-ness" of the trackpad, alignment of keys, speaker mesh, how well the screws are hidden, etc) - but I've always felt they were the best feeling Windows laptops outside of more recent Surface devices. The AW15, from the little chance I had with it, goes for something completely different (it's clearly not chasing thin and light, so keep that in mind), but it absolutely trades punches with Razer... easily. WAY better keyboard, too.

In terms of the overall build quality - the sum of everything that you touch and feel in typical day to day use, I'd argue:

    MacBook 12" and MBP 13" + 15" > Surface Laptop >>> SP6 and SB2 > 13" MB Air = Razer 15" > Razer 14" and Razer Blade Pro = A51M > everything else

New BIOS increased the power limit! 210W PL1 now. Before I couldn't do 5.1Ghz stable now I can do it somewhat stable (TEMP limit & sometimes VR Current)

    GPU is still 190W.

This Clevo is the P775TM1-G and, hearsay only, was having heat issues with the GTX 1080. I think the better one is the P870TM1-G which is much thicker and has much better cooling.

Nice! Can't wait to test this this weekend. I was hitting a lot of power limit issues before, so now I'll be probably be able to squeeze a bit more out and hit a thermal wall instead :p Then in a few more weeks we'll have the 200W vBios... Gonna squeeze out those extra few hundred pts of firestrike!!! (and like... 2 FPS!)

200W BIOS? I thought that 180W or 190W or 200W was a hardware thing? Is it just a BIOS thing to get more wattage?

The notebook manufacturers add in the power limits (power cap) in firmware so it fits the laptop models cooling capacity. See also... Max-Q vs. normal mobile graphics cards. Same chips but different TGP/TDP.

I keep trying to uninstall and it says its went through and it resets my laptop, but destiny is still not running correctly.. Had two separate Microsoft support guys take over the computer to roll it back as well and it still isn't working... So looks like I can't even play destiny 2 on reset day.. AGHHHHHH!

Any other ideas? apparently uninstalling the updates does nothing, ive tried uninstalled 4-5 of them now.. Not sure what else to do. I could reinstall windows but it will probably just download them again..
