Ah ok yes I have the 2933MHz version, so you have the 3200MHz version and it wont run at 3200MHz?.

I've found the SSD Bracket: 3N3W3 part number should fit my 51M R2 (ordered with only 1 256gb ssd but I'll add a 960Gb drive); if I'd like to add also NVME SSD 3 and 4 I shoul buy the " Solid-state drive interposer board ".
Someone can send me the right part number to search/buy? all the SSD Brackets are identical (3N3W3)?

I believe unless you order with three or more M.2 drives you will already have the SSD bracket installed where the 3rd and fourth M.2 drives would be installed.

Unfortunately not. Since the motherboard for 3200MHz RAM and 2933MHz is different. Only if you order the laptop with 3200MHz RAM specifically, you can get to those speeds. Also its a Dell specific RAM that works at 3200 MHz. The only reason why I have 3200 MHz RAM is because the 3200 MHz version is cheaper in Canada. Was $110 when I got it compared to $135 for the 2933 MHz version.

    hey ladies & gents.
    two questions for you all

    1. anyone upgraded or have both R1 and R2? notice the R2 speakers aren't as clear or good? I originally thought it was just the reverb, and thought i fixed (mostly for music anyway), but noticed on some games, certain sounds sound a little off or muffled... anyone notice the same? or anyone know of speaker changes or placement changes between R1 / R2?
    2. last two days, a high-pitched whine, when botting up cold... until it gets to windows login screen (1st time might have been shorter). anyone experienced this? any tips on what it might be? I do have one spinning drive. or psu? **this evening, i swapped holes from my normal port inserts 330W - 240W (LED) ,,,, to 240W (led) - 330W, and didn't hear a thing... coincidence? lucky boot?** i'll reboot it again later, and also try original power-port order again, to see if its that configuration for some reason.

They take so long to get these machines to us, i'd really hate for psu or something else needing repair already... can't imagine if a tech doesn't come out to fix it, the turnaround on receiving it back from mail-in would be any less than 2 weeks.

anyway, any insight or tips on any of the two would be greatly appreciated... i'd feel better isolating or being pretty sure about what's needed, than blindly trying to rely on Dell...

No regrets IMHO. I doubt it would be faster even if it ran at 3200, because the CL goes up disproportionately at 3200. The speed boost comes from ditching Dell Value RAM in favour of HyperX.

I cant find and buy anymore the Alienware 51m R1 version, so I decided to take the R2 version instead (No more AW14 Keyboard style QQ), i pick this one because of the replaceable parts and its thick like my old Alienware 14. Still on the way. I will just search this forum area for some info about the laptop improvement guides. I didnt like the m15 /17 versions as they are soldered.

Has anyone else tried using other software to control the RBG lighting and effects? ACC seems so limited in customizations.

Is this software problematic? It does claim support for Alienware.

    My Alienware arrived early:

    i9 10900K
    64GB
    1TB NVMe
    RTX 2070 SUPER
    17.3", 300Hz

It has been a super smooth ride thus far. It is a solid, thic machine!

I still have to finish fixing Windows which I have not used in ages. I also have to get an extra NVMe and a hybrid drive installed. I did not want to have the raid pre-configured and according to Dell they cannot disable the raid configuration. I use linux for work so fingers crossed that the installation goes smoothly!

Guys, do you know how to control the fans speed through the Command Center? I've tried from Thermal Profiles (created a new profile) -> Advanced -> and there I tried the "offset" and the "smooth line", but the fans doesn't respond to the settings I set.

    Examples:

If I set up CPU offset 50% then the fan speed goes to 88%. If I set it up to 40% the fans speed is 86%.

If I check the smooth line and give whatever "temp -> fan speed", the fan speed doesn't respond - it stays unchanged.

Is that a bug? Do you experience the same behavior?

Hi, my Area-51M R2 should arrive in a couple of weeks and I ordered a Phobya Nanogrease Extreme to repaste cpu and Gpu.
To have better cooling for VRM I can't find Fujipoly pads so I'll switch to Gelid GP-Extreme and GP-Ultimate (Thanks to Melvin Rousseau tha provided some measurements):

    https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B0824ZMJLY/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A3OVN94OLIX1JJ&psc=1

    https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B06WWDT6RC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A3OVN94OLIX1JJ&psc=1

    https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B07BSPZTNV/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3OVN94OLIX1JJ&psc=1

Do you think I'll have to order others of different thicknesses or in larger quantities?

Gelid's thermally conductive pads should be "softer" than Fujipoly, to have better better performance and durability you think it's correct to use slightly thicker pads than those installed by Dell?

    I have been using both,
The fujipoly are indeed thicker and harder so I don't recommend those measurements.
You should add 0,5 mm on all the measurements except the vram of the graphic card if you go with the gelid gc extreme as they are very very soft

I was wondering what kind of temps do people here see on the A51m R2 on idle. The Specs? And whether they have stock thermal paste or something fancy.

My idle temps are (most of the time).
    CPU (10900k): 50 C (Stock)
    GPU (2080S): 46 C (Stock)

    CPU = 48C
    GPU = 47C

CPU is de-lidded , PHOBYA NanoGrease Extreme for the thermal paste + fujipoly extreme thermal pads

My idle room temp is high though @ 25C

That's amazing. I ran 3DMark Firestrike and at 4.8GHz, my CPU reached 100C.

I can say for certain you probably have the most powerful A51m R2 out there.

Great, but are you using direct die cooling or a relidded cpu with stock ihs? Between die and ihs you use also NanoGrease or LM?
I read a ton of posts but probably lost something...... where you described the exact cpu details? Is your cpu delidded and re-lidded from silicon lottery?
I have a RockitCool delid kit with copper ihs and with frane for direct die cooling (I also have a 10700k cpu on desktop pc)

Thank you I'll try this pad solution. Have you found a big temp difference between Gelid and Fujipoly?

Silicon Lottery CPU delidded by HIDevoltion. Between the CPU Die and IHS there is Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut. Between the IHS and heatsink, there is PHOBYA NanoGrease Extreme

PHOBYA NanoGrease Extreme also on the GPU

Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads on heat sensitive components.

No cooling pad, no elevation, no external cooling, just using it normally.

So today I was trying Cinebench with Open Hardware Monitor open. It seems like my 10900k instantly hits 100C the moment the test is started. Is that normal? Anyone here with a 10900k specifically with stock thermal paste and ran Cinebench?

As I tune client's PCs usually, that is normal unless one has upgraded thermal paste, delidding, undervolting. CINEBENCH is one of the most stressful tests and would cause any laptop to immediately jump to 100C the moment you run it if it's using stock thermal paste and no under-volting.

Got a question for those who were able to get the R2 close to launch and still use it today. Have there been any particular issues that have arisen that you’d share with potential or waiting buyers?

Didn't get the laptop during launch. There are small issues here and there but can mostly be fixed by the user. The ones I have faced so far are listed below.

    1. Touchpad randomly stops working.
    - Resolved by disabling Tobii Software from starting up automatically. Or one can just a mouse and not bother with enabling/disabling Tobii. Me and my wife both use this laptop and she prefers the touchpad.
Note: Microsoft just released an update that enables Windows Hello on R2 if you have Tobii Eye Tracker equipped. Something to keep in mind if you plan to use it.

    2. 10900k thermal throttles quickly.
    - Resolved by negative voltage offset (at least now it takes a while to get to 100C). People have also de-lidded their CPU and applied better thermal paste. However in Canada its hard to get the amazing pastes people use here in the forum unless one pays a lot of out their pocket.

Do I need to enable the Tobii software for this or the hardware is good enough (ie can I just set up using windows without enabling the Tobii software)? The software messes up the touchpad every time it runs.

44 to 49, i guess it depended on how hot the day was...
when i only undervolted by -100mV, it lowered to 39-ish...
and my low custom is 5.2GHz, 1.4V, -100mV, and it idles between 35-38 and i don't think i've really seen it ever go above 70 on my low setting

had coil whine, during bootup, for a couple days; but, it cleared up, itself.
uhm, i am not over-joyed with the speakers on the R2... i like the speakers on the R1 better; but, they aren't terrible... you'll likely tweek the reverb and highs and lows in AWCC...

besides that, it's been running like Day 1.
so far, no yellowing palm rests (they had to replace palm rest on our R1)
as another user stated, cpu temp will jump to 100C quickly under heavy loads; but i remedied that easily w/ -100mV; and you can fine tune it much better than that, when you're ready to
