Yeah lol the computer froze eventually but now with -145 undervolt it's been all good
Btw nvidia control panel power management setting actually didn't matter (for coil whine) either

Mine 10900K is completely stable in all real world and all stress tests at -100mv core and -60mv cache but that is only due to being limited at 4.7Ghz. Which is strange cause I damn sure didn't win the silicone lottery as I can barely run 4.8GHz without throttling due to thermals. Delid with LM and re-paste bumped me up from 4.7Ghz to 4.8Ghz.

I haven't seen many with my -100mv that are stable, much less -145mv.

I have no idea what I'm doing with Throttlestop LOL ... in fact, before getting this Area51m R2, I didn't even know the program existed. I've just read this forum and copied everybody else's settings. I run -91.8 offset on both CPU and Cache and have never had a single issue. I also use Throttlestop to maintain a steady 5ghz overclock and have have bios/command center set to default clock speeds. You can see my clock speed and idle temps in the status/tray area in this shot ... also my ignorant Throttlestop settings. But it works so I'm not messing with it. Those temps are sitting at a restaraunt with the back elevated, mind you .. fans running around 70% ... I tend to lean towards higher fan speeds day to day .. I'm warrantied through the end of 2024 so I'm not worried about wearing out a fan or two. Temps are even better at work on my laptop cooler:

Throttlestop never works for me. It never actually applies the offset. The boxes on right side never update no matter what i do.

Hello, I purchased brand new area-51 R2 last black Friday with i9 10900k, 64gb ram, 2TB drive and the 2070 super 360hz screen, 4 yr warrenty...I am not very happy with the screen and wan't to know if its posibble to upgrade or replace the screen with a 4k screen or should I just wait untill Black Friday and buy a new system with a 4k screen?

You could get the part number for different screens and try to order and replace it yourself. That said, ... what do you dislike about the 1080p IPS 360hz screen? I have the same screen and love it although I rarely game on the laptop screen as my Area51m is an office machine where I have an external 1080p 24" gaming monitor. But the laptop screen is a thing of beauty as far as I'm concerned ... absolutely perfect, zero bleed, etc. 4K just doesn't work for me at the laptop screen size level ... bit too tight of a fit for me ...

Regarding the screen, I upgrade or buy a new laptop every 4 years because thats how long the max warrenty is on these systems and my old one had a resolution of 2550 x 1440 screen, not total 4k quality but when you played games or watched movies everything just popped with color and all the extras. This 360hz screen that have now just seems dull in comparision. No pop or color crispness and when playing games its just blah to me

I see ... I too buy 4 year warranties ... I've never had a 1440p laptop screen but think I'd like it. My Area51m R2 with the 2070 Super does very well running to my external 1440p monitor at home ... just about dead even with my 1080ti at 1440p but with the benefit of ray tracing.

I posted a bit back about the Giryriz Smart Laptop Cooler made specifically for Alienware Area51m laptop ... I lauded it and sang it's praises ... 4 80mm 5000rpm fans for f sake but they crapped it by trying to make it "smart" and integrating a USB circuit with PWM fan control based on laptop temperatures. Long story short? Mine, like many others, crapped out after about a month. Fortunately, I only payed $75 for it instead of the stupid arse $240 Amazon price LOL .. was going to throw it away but decided to tear it apart and see if I couldn't do some semblance of the well known U3 Mod using a cheap fan controller and a molex AC adapter. Turns out it worked! I couldn't use the 2 amp molex AC adapter referenced in the popular U3 Mod thread here at NBR as each 80mm fan maxes out at 5000rpm and apparently they need more juice so I had to re order a 5 amp molex AC adapter and that did the trick. I vastly prefer manual fan controls anyway and am stoked as all get out to be able to keep/use this monstrosity of an Area51m cooler.

    ...

    cooler2.jpg

    cooler4.jpg

    cooler_cable.jpg

    cooler_lit2..jpg

    molex1.jpg

    ...

If doing a similar mod of the Cooler Master U3 laptop cooler, I'd definitely recommend buying a 5 amp molex AC adapter as it can power very high performance fans.

And here's some admittedly foul mouth'd video commentary of the mod functioning after completion ... was bored at work but look how productive I ended up being! ;-)

So stoked to have saved it ...

So, just to save others the time, I installed a 10700k and some XMP enabled memory into my m51 r2that came shipped with a 10700 and 3200mhz memory (JEDEC) and the BIOS will not let me enable XMP.

yeah the modules I used were CMSX32GX4M2A2666C18 - to add insult to the injury that is owning a Dell product, if I use an old version of XTU (6.5.2.40) I am actually able to manually set timings and overclock the memory - Dell have jus disabled the option in their BIOS even though the CPU, motherboard and memory ALL support XMP and memory overclocking.

Last night I pulled the trigger on an R2 from outlet. Got 15% off which was pretty sweet, 13% coupon and 2% chat discount. RAM and disks will be upgraded.

That is a great price, I just ordered a similar spec one from Best Buy for $1999, but without the additional warranty. Can I ask how you got the big discount, or get your Dell rep you talked with? I would cancel my Best Buy order if I could get something similar with the 5 year warranty.

Better make sure to do your research while upgrading memory! Assuming you want to run at top speeds capable on these machines, your options of SO-DIMMS will be limited (not taking into account using Thaipoon Burner to fake out the UEFI).

Dell Outlet has 2 certified refurbished 10900K/2080 Super Area 51m R2's available as of this morning. I was *this* close to ordering one to replace my 10700K/2070 Super A51m R2 but decided not to. Not worth the hassle of selling my current rig for 10 to 15fps gain. In case anybody is interested ...

Also, this coupon code ends today but you can use code "377540Ali" at checkout (sans quotes) for 40% off. The one I almost bought was a 10900K/2080 Super with 32gb of 3200mhz DDR4, a 2 TB m.2 RAID0 array and with a two year extended warranty. With the coupon code, it came out to roughly $3100.

    Here's a handy link...

No problem. And I don't think it's actually 40% off with that code ... what I saw at checkout was -$450 or so off my total order ... still a good bit of savings and makes the 2 or 3 year extended warranty much more reasonable of an option.

    FWIW ... here's some more Dell/Alienware codes: https://slickdeals.net/landing/dell-home-outlet/?couponid=5252779

    got my replacement yesterday. Finaly...

One of the fans was broken and made a weird high pitch sound. Similar to the X17 but way louder. I replaced the broken HS with the good one of the old R2. Now its perfect :D

    Specs:
    i9, 2080S, 360Hz, 2x2TB, 3YPrem+, 32gb Ram
    2450€

CPU is better this time. +200Mhz at same temps. GPU is as good as the previous one...maybe 25Mhz worse.

I just got my 51m r2. My screen goes black for a second sometimes when i open up the command center or things like final fantasy 14 launcher. Never happens during gaming. Sometimes when the screen comes back up my desktop icons will disappear for a second too. Any ideas?

Hey Area51m R2 2080 Super users ... post a few benchmarks at stock 2080 Super speeds. 3DMark, Uningine, Metro Exodus Benchmark, whatever. Just make sure your 2080 S is at stock. I happen to have a really decent bit of silicon in my own 2070 Super, overclocks quite well, and I want to see if I can push it up to matching stock 2080 Super speeds. Thanks!

Guys, one question. Has anyone tried an 11th gen CPU on the area51m r2? Being the same socket .. it should work .. but has anyone tried it?

I have the 10900KF and it works perfectly, the only thing is that the Alienware Command center does not detect it as CPU unlock, it can only be modified with throtlestop or from the BIOS.

Hello guys, did you notice there is a new BIOS update for A51m R2, v1.8.1?

Detailed information about the new BIOS is:

    Fixes:
    - Firmware updates to address the Intel Security Advisory INTEL-SA-00459 (CVE-2020-24507, CVE-2020-8703, CVE-2020-24506, and CVE-2020-24516).

    - Firmware updates to address the Intel Security Advisory INTEL-SA-00463 (CVE-2020-12359).
    - Firmware updates to address security vulnerabilities.

    Enhancements:
    - Updated the default setting of Battery Charge Configuration in the BIOS from Adaptive to Primarily AC Use.

The question is: should we go or not? I'm afraid because sometimes Dell hides performance cuts in these updates.

Was going to ask this same question last night based on a previous post from @b.kolev a few days back. Typically @Spartan@HIDevolution gives us the low down on it but he seems to be ghost as of late. I'm not too savvy to note the differences so I haven't upgraded; remaining optimistically cautious as well.

My new A51m R2 arrived in June this year with BIOS v1.7.0 installed. Our colleague @Normimb said that this version was OK and stable, but warned against installing new versions before getting feedback from the folks here in the group. I'll wait for some news before moving on.

hello sorry my english translated by google. I only speak Spanish
    I am from Colombia.
I read all the pages of this forum. really valuable for those of us who have a 51m R2 area.
    recently traveled to usa. buy an area 51m r2 with i7 10700, 16gb ram, rtx 2070 super, 144hz + g-sync + tobii for 1899 usd. good price I think ..
I want to modify the ram memory for hyper x impact 3200mhz I think it runs at 2999mhz. it's a good computer overall good temperatures compared to my previous asus zephyrus. I'm happy with this computer even though I can't update (thanks dell) ... a 2070 super is enough for me. I mainly use it to run warzone, gta5, Red Dead Redemption 2 everything in ultra runs at 120fps + for this screen it's fine .
I am an electronic engineer and I have specialized diagnostic tools. Today I want to share some images that I took with my thermal camera after 30 minutes running MW.
i think dell has a design problem with this computer. a power adapter runs hotter. 230w 53c power adapter 330w 31c power adapter. why dell ? I think the power adapter settings should be the same video password 0000

Yep, @Normimb have seen the light. Dell and new firmware is an awful chapter. Avoid the new updates as plague or cholera.

    That's the 51m R1, the R2 didn't have the same BIOS issues.

Hello mate, we appreciate your effort and we are looking forward to the result. I was unsure about doing it because Dell warn that once the BIOS is upgraded, you cannot downgrade the BIOS to earlier version due to downgrade restrictions. I've read posts from people who tried to downgrade and had problems.

I've upgraded and downgraded a number of times without issue. Not even had to do a blind flash yet to downgrade can normally just run the old version over the top.
