Good luck sleeping till then. LOL. I have a 38" Alienware AW3821DW coming in today and took me about three hours to get to sleep last night LOL ... (38" is for my desktop/3080 ti machine, BTW) ...

I nearly bough that or the new Samsung Neo G9 but couldnt bring myself to spend £1800 on a monitor or £1200 on the Alienware 38 ... the monitor i did get was £430 and will be great for the laptop .

Im building a new desktop next year with the new 12th Gen Alder lake Cpu and DDR5 with PCIE 5.0 and then i may get the 49in Samsung Neo G9 with a RTX 4080

The Alienware AW3821DW is certainly an investment. My main rational is moving away from my (years now) dual 1440p setup ... both for more efficient video timeline editing and also for more immersive gaming. As well, it's a good mate for my 3080 ti and will only get better with next gen GPU's over the years. And lastly, among all of the 38"+ ultrawides, Dell by far has the best warranty at 3 years/next day exchange vs. Samsung/LG's piddly 1 year warranty. I'm actually going to investigate extending the 3 year warranty on the Alienware screen. Not to mention I'll have two banging 144hz 1440p monitors in the closet for backup/random use ... BTW: I used Dells 1 year no interest financing ... although, as with my A51mR2, I'll likely pay it off in a few months...

I agree that the warranty of straight swap over with Dell is great . wish others did this . in UK samsung and LG monitors have 2 years warranty first 12 months is retailer responsibility.

The Aw38 what ive seen is a great screen .

I believe someone did before in the Area51m R1, the short of it was it runs about 20% slower over tb3 than via the AGA. Although with the AGA not supporting the newer cards and being discontinued anyway i don't think that's as much of an issue.

Some people managed to get it working by chopping half the case open. There is a AGA thread on the forum here which has more info.

@Killswitch73 What he said (I got a 3080 ti working with mine) but tldr: ddu your video card drivers and you will most likely need to swap the psu (very easy). But yeah, more in the AGA thread.

    ** Question for 2070 Super users **

Have any of you ran external to an ultrawide 1440p 34" screen (3440x1440)? My brother is buying an Alienware 34" 1440p monitor to use with his 10900K/2070 Super A51mR2 and I'm curious what his performance might be like. I personally have run my own 2070 Super machine with a standard 27" 16:9 1440p screen extensively and found it to be quite capable at that resolution, coming in almost neck and neck with my old desktop 1080 ti setup. I'm expecting the ultrawide 3440x1440 screen to perform almost the same as my experience with 2560x1440p screen but haven't tested ... thanks

**4tb ssd nvme problem on Alienware Area 51m R2**

I have Corsair MP400 4TB NVME PCIe M.2 SSD from my ASUS ROG G512LI STRIX G and works well with it..But when i put it on my Area 51m R2..it recognize by BIOS but cannot startup windows..I know the limitation storage from user guide..i hope there's a solution on it..cause my Samsung SSD 870 QVO SATA-3 4TB works well on 2.5-inchi hard drive even though the storage spec is up to 1 TB..

    3,700000 pixels vs 4.800000 pixels.

Expect 20%-25% lower framerate in 3440x1440

@Papusan can probably link in some older posts talking about what he uses for a notepad cooler and his ingenious method of filtering the fans before blowing dirt/dust into your Area 51m.

I recently bought this one but returned it; I was going to mount it under my Cooler Master U3 to use as a backup to my main A51mR2 Gyriz cooler but decided it wouldn't be very effective unless I dremeled out a rectangle to allow proper air flow. This three fan kit is actually pretty good ... each fan producing about 85CFM and all together, at full speed, it puts out a crap ton of air. The U3's stock surface, though perforated, still doesn't allow even half of this kits air flow to pass through. So I returned it. But highly recommended if you take the time and effort to dremel out surface of the U3 to be one wide open rectangle: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08F33H9SB?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

Noticed lately that my games library in AWCC dropped quite a few games from its list. Particularly Steam games, has anyone else experienced this?

(I know how much hate there is for this program and that its crap so spare me some of that.)

looked at them but im going to go with these .they have a 130cpf each fan .
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MZ6V...EC&colid=33V9CDBQ0ZTWE&psc=1&ref_=nav_signin&

also got the U3 in basket as they have a damaged boxed verion for 25% less than none damaged box. im typing on the R2 right now . will instal a few games later . just trying to get used to the screen and keyboard . the laptop is not as heavy or as big as my MSI titan , in fact it dwarfs it , shocked really considering the R2 has a desktop CPU . the R2 also slips on my desk while typing or plugging in headphones but it is a very smooth carbon laminate finish desk . speakers are dreadful . not a patch on the MSI , really disapointed in the speakers . keyboard is a joy to use and so is the track pad as i hate the MSI track pad .. i use a mouse anyway . i have to say the txt and brightness of this 4k screen is brilliant .. somethink my MSI lacked . i wont be gaming much on this 4k screen only being 60hz none Gsync . but txt and brightness is amazing . key strokes are stunning .

I will cut out the holes for the fans on the U3 Notepal and have the controller at the side . i thought about using the little fans off the U3 and use them at the rear to exhaust more heat away from the machine . it means glueing them to the back of the U3 or to the desk to take away the heat faster while playing games . might not make any difference whatso ever but may just prolong the life of the machine taking away the heat faster so its not lingering at back of the machine and making the ambient temp warmer than what it is . took the lid off the R2 and to my surprise its got a Gen4 SSD M.2 .. but seems when googling the drive its only rated at 3.5k read and right speeds . kioxia its called , never heard of them .

Thanks for letting me know. Thing is I had set fan profiles for quite a few of those games and they still get applied when they open. Really a buggy unreliable piece of software, I even recently saw "update available" in the area I circled in red top left. Never saw that before. Wonder what Dell is doing behind the scenes?

I use Rivatuner as I have for years; quite the good bit of software imo ... something some folk aren't aware of is that HWINFO64 sensor data integrates into the Rivatuner OSD settings quite handily. I use it for all sorts of OSD data not available via Rivatuner/Afterburner built in OSD selections. Just open HWINF64 (I choose "sensors only") and from the sensor list, simply right click the sensor data you want to have show up in the Rivatuner OSD and go to "OSD/RTSS Settings" ... works quite well:

Mine might not be the normal use scenario but I use my AW51mR2 for office/desktop work, maybe 80% of the time I use it each day; the vast majority of my gaming is done at home on my desktop but I do game for an hour or so a day while at work and on the laptop. I've found that setting up a 3.8ghz profile for such daily office work, via Throttlestop, amounts to no difference in my perceived experience at work. I then have a 5.0ghz and/or 4.7ghz profile configured, depending on my mood, for use only when gaming or doing something like video rendering. The 3.8ghz profile runs way cooler than the 4.7ghz/5.0ghz profiles and most likely will go a good way towards prolonging the life of the machine. Heat kills and all ...

Hey mate ... what do you use to manually set your fans? I've been using AWCC and personally have had a good experience with it. No dropped games, etc. I haven't updated it, though, despite constant notifications to do so because "if it works, don't fix it" and all ... but curious how you manage your fan speeds as I might want to try a different method in the future...

As far as i'm aware only AWCC can control the fans. Neither speedfan or hwinfo can set the fan speeds and i've not found anything else that can.

You can set fan speed with HWinfo. You just have to untick ECcontrol in HWinfo settings, As soon as you hit the fan button (after you do a custom setting) fan turns on bypassing AWCC settings.
AWCC fan control has never control correctly a fan curve. Just the ****tiest firmware ever created.

    Hello everyone.

I think of buying an Area 51m R2. My question is this:

Can anyone confirm that I can upgrade from i9-10900 to i9-10900k?

GPU will remain the same (2080 Super).

    Thanks in advance.

don't know if its been talked about here. i don't know if anyone on this thread is as pigheaded about making what you want to work, to work. but i've discovered a grub tool to modify nvram variables and it seems to work to overclock ram or set ram to run at xmp profile speeds. i've even got 3333mhz at cl 19 at 1.2v on the stock dell ram. seems to be faster. idk.

hey sorry i didn't list it at the time i was posting from my phone and it was being a glitchy little frog.

this is the project on github and it has an already compiled version of itself available that you can just put on a usb drive. GitHub - datasone/grub-mod-setup_var: A modified grub allowing tweaking hidden BIOS settings.
to get the nvram variable offsets you need to dump your bios using fptw, you'll need to google and find it yourself but my recommendation is google fptw winraid and it should come up.
dump the bios using fptw -bios bios.bin and it should dump a copy of the bios data. then run it through uefitool, search for XTU as text in the bios and it should show you a location where the setup module is located.
extract that to your computer and run it through GitHub - donovan6000/Universal-IFR-Extractor: Utility that can extract the internal forms represenation from both EFI and UEFI modules.
this will give you offsets to set values such as ram timings, xmp status, and memory frequency.
email the text file to yourself so you have it on a phone/ipad/alternative computer.
prepare a usb drive with a fat32 partition and put the above listed grub mod efi file in a folder with the structure of /EFI/boot/ and rename the file bootx64.efi.
reboot to bios and disable secure boot. reboot again and press f12. you should get a boot switcher, proceed to select your usb drive to boot from.
you should get a grub prompt. from there follow instructions from the grub mod github post.

This is as full of a tutorial as i care to write. If you have any questions just reply and i'll get back to you or any others. like i said above i have my ram overclocked. ymmv in regards to ram timings and all that as memory is very different module to module. it sucks that dell does this to our computers but its nice to know they can't nuke everything. My bios version is 1.7.0, and i don't intend to update the bios any time soon.

it's risking your grub now to know if it's worth doing it for a minimal profit, as far as I'm concerned I don't think so

its not really risking anything. it doesn't replace your system bootloader, only adds a bootloader to the usb drive. if you mess up your bios just unplug the bios battery, main battery and power plug and it will reset the cmos settings.

Hello everyone! I own a Dell Alienware Area 51m R2 Dark Side of the Moon.

The display of the laptop is the following:
    17.3" FHD (1,920 x 1,080)
    144 Hz
    9 ms
    300-nits 72% NTSC colour gamut
    NVIDIA-GSYNC technology
    Tobii Eyetracking technology

I want to replace the LCD Screen with a similar one (LCD Screen Complete set) but with 360Hz and G-Sync.

I 've searched everywhere (I think) and cannot find anything to buy. All I find is screen sets with 144Hz like the following: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/133709567768?epid=14045540450&hash=item1f21b61718:g:kfMAAOSwdCNgY5Yz

Can anyone help me find a link to buy an LCD Screen set with 360Hz and G-Sync for the Dark Side of the Moon Area 51m R2?

    Thank you in advance!

G-sync on a 300 or 360hz is not necessary, in my opinion. I use to like G-sync but on higher refresh rates and faster respond time i never noticed any screen tearing. But i am not an expert on the subject. I would still recommend faster respond time and higer refresh rate before G-sync.

    Hi everyone!

I have 2933 Mhz RAM sticks installed on my area 51m r2.

If I upgrade to 3200 Mhz RAM sticks, will it work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

    If you could choose:

300Hz without Gsync and 100 Adobe RGB
144Hz 99% SRGB with Gsync but in Dark Side Colour

What would you do? Is the 300Hz panel good? What is the manufacturer of the 144Hz panel?

i have had both. Color accuracy of the 144Hz with G-sync is a little better then the 300Hz 3ms no-Gsync (i compare them side by side on a system exchange). And the 144Hz has 400nits vs 300 for the 300Hz.
The main advantage of the 300Mhz is it's fast respond time while playing fast past games like, COD black ops.

I would take the 300Hz over the 144Hz in my case. The fast respond time while gaming gave me a rush i never experienced with the 144Hz. Color are still in the very good range but not excellent and nits are just fine (i don't use my laptop outside).

    Hello sir SPARTAN!
Can you please help me to restore the original OS on my Alienware Area51m-R2, because i`ve bought it from the internet in a used condition but the first user had not created a restore/recovery disc or image!

    My specs are:

    Alienware Area51m-R2, Dark Side of the Moon, I9 10900k, 16GB 2933MHz upgraded to 64GB XMP, RTX2080Super, NVME 0 512GB 970Pro, NVME1 512GB PM981, SATA3 2.5" 4TB.

I ve reinstalled Windows 10 Pro using Alienware OS Recovery Tool and a USB Drive but my system seems incomplete.

Hope that you can help me with my issue!

Thanks and I must say that your review posted on Youtube with the A51m-R2 Review made me to choose this device.

So please to reupload the image for restoring my Alienware to original Factory Install of Windows 10 and Alienware OS Support Assist.

Thanks you and KUTGW (keep up the good work).
