your eyes will never tell the difference between 144hz, 300hz, or 360hz. It's just a marketing gimmick. If anything, it is bad because most games won't keep up with the 300 hz refresh rate in terms of FPS so you will get screen tearing.Papusan likes this. -
Hello sir! Can you help me by providing the image for Alienware AREA51M-R2 that Spartan shared with you on the page 117?? Thanks in advance!

I was looking to buy the Alienware Area 51 R2 but......looks like they longer have "Darkside of the Moon" Chassis Option

Just download the official Windows 10 ISO (using the download tool at the below link) and start fresh, you don't need the dell image:

Looking at your current sig, that is like the opposite direction of your former laptops that were power rigs and then some. You've gone in the opposite direction it seems @Spartan@HIDevolution ! -

I realized that I always bought the latest and greatest gaming laptops (out of habit) but I never play any games anymore. I have a bun of Steam games but I never even touched. them due to the lack of time and probably not interested as much a I was younger in gaming. So now all I need is a laptop/desktop that I can do my work with which is all done through a web browser and perhaps edit a video here and there for my Instagram.DreDre, Normimb, ratchetnclank and 4 others like this. -

I've not tried 144hz but i can see the difference between 120hz and 300hz. It's ever so slightly smoother, does it give me a advantage when gaming? (no not really).Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

did you all update to latest bios via support assist ? its how i found out the new bios update 5 mins ago . Ive had my laptop with 10900k and 2080 super for 15 days and on day 14 the temps on the system are crazy hot in games and hitting 95-100c on my OCD . clock speeds stay the same . GPU is fine at 75-80c

3 ms respond time is where you will see the difference. (3ms for the 300hz and 5 ms for the 360hz).
When playing a fast paste game you will notice it and believe me.....the experience is totaly different as oppose to the slower respond time panels. (The 144Hz is much slower.)
It's not just about being kill or staying alive on a fast paste shooter. It's about how fast the game feels. An instant respond is much more immersive as oppose to a delay respond. -
I download the bios updates via the dell site and I install them manually! trying to reset the bios should fix your problem

There a warm computer man get a decent cooling pad and lower the voltage and you will be sweet.

Before I go reading through 367 pages (lol) has it been confirmed wether or not 11th gen processors are compatible yet? Like an 11700k? I know it's the same socket but will it work?
-
You would need BIOS support. Take a guess if Dell provided this.Normimb likes this.

Well damn, guess the 11th gen that's on it's way will just go back to bestbuy when it arrives haha. That being said, can these rigs handle the 10900 in gaming without major heat throttling or is it just a safer bet to get the 10700?
-
Yes the 11700k ~ 11900k and all KF and such work including the all 10 series versions.
There is a slight issue with the Alienware software with them but you can use alternate programs to use.c0ach likes this. -
I tend to use msi afterburner and xtu anyways. 10900 here I come. Thanks!c0ach likes this.

Get a Binned Chip if you can you don't want to put an untested chip in a laptop and find out it could have been used to cook eggs at the corner shop.
-
How do I go about doing that?
-
Depending on where you live in the world there are many different options just google Binned chips or look for an overclocking test site.

Bro @Normimb Check this out. Maybe worth take a look before its too late (not so sure you want that Dell will replace your Area-R2 with the new thinner and slimmer X17). Not the first time we have seen similar in the Alienwares. The Alienware 15 R1/R2 had design flaw/undersized cable or used cheapo DC cable.
I took my area51m apart after hearing buzzing noises from the ac adaptor jack and this is how it looks is the orange decoloration a sign of burn or is it normal ?Normimb likes this. -

Exactly what I was thinking..
If it's truly compatible, then I see myself getting a 11th gen CPU real soonelectrosoft likes this. -
I might be willing to be the test subject if someone wants to buy the processor I don't use. I have a 10900k and a 11700k both being delivered on the 14th. Plan was to just take the 11700k back. But if I test it and it doesn't work I don't think I can return it. If the 11700 does work I'd probably just keep it and take the 10900k back.

I have tested all the 10 series processors myself at work. Co-Worker has tested a 11700 to boot the Alienware software died in the ass but worked. "Reported by co-worker"
I can guarantee the 10 series work personally and 2nd hand say that the 11700 was tested and confirmed working. on 1.7.1 bios if my memory serves me correct. I may have photos somewhere of the 10 series and i will ask for the same of the 11 series today.c0ach likes this. -
The big question will be... Will the 11th gen run castrated as the KS in the Area-R1 ?
-
Honestly, I only tested to see if they work I didn't do any kind to test aside UserBench and that's useless as tits on a bull for anything but basic testing.

I searched vBios of 2070 super(mobile) hard. Techpowerup provided a lot of vBios,
but I couldn't find any vBios exceeding 115W TGP. It seemed as if no manufacturer had exceeded 115W TGP.
Do you know anything about this? -
Great!
I have issues with my R2. Sometimes it won't charge at all when the power supply is inside (only 1 240watts most of the time).
I am going to dismantle this laptop again this week and see if the issue is this CHEAP part from Dell.
Thanks for the info. This might be my issue.Last edited: Sep 16, 2021c0ach, ratchetnclank and Papusan like this. -
I just wanted to stop in and post my findings for anyone out there interested. So yesterday I tested 3 different processors. 11900k, 11700k, 10900k. I can officially report that 11th gen processors will not boot in an area 51m r2. Your keyboard will light up, and then it resets. No Alienware screen, just infinite loop of light up and reset. Both 11th gens did the same thing no matter what I did. As for the 10900 it was hoooooottt. Even with max fans and severely undervolted. I think I had it down to 1.2v with -40 offset, it ran at 4.7ghz and still pulled 95-96c with max fans on prime95. When I gamed it was pulling fames in games due to the heat. So I opted to dial it down to a 10700k. Should have time to install it tomorrow hopefully. Just threw thw regular ol 10700 back in it for now until I can get the time to swap the 10700k in. Also upgraded from a 2070s to a 2080s while I was in there. Went from 99XX in 3D mark on the gpu, to 107XX on the gpu with the stock 10700. Both had stable overclocks of 400 on mem, and +170 on core. Seems to pull around 170 some on the power draw. Haven't got to really test it in games yet. Wife and kids.

Hi guys, this is a really great forum. Thanks for that! Great informations out here.
I still haven't pulled the trigger to buy the Area 51m r2. For the simple fact that the factory screen-options are really bad; and I mean really bad. Considering it costs more than an arm and a leg.
I've wanted to buy an Area 51m R2 for about a year now and I am faced with the problem of which display to buy.
There is the 300Hz WITHOUT G-SYNC + TOBII + RGB 100% (I occasionally do some editing). But on the other hand though I want G-Sync for best performance. (I don't really care for FPS. I care for performance)
I've read that G-Sync laptops are connected directly to the GPU, avoiding IGPU? is that right? Also TOBII would be great (Windows Hello)
Or
the 144HZ WITH G-SYNC + NTSC 72% (WORSE COLORS) How do the internals differ from each other? Are the G-Sync-models internally different?
I've searched all over the internet, but I don't seem to find an adequate answer to my problem. It is a real dilemma for me since I want the best of both worlds.
The best would be a 4K display with 120HZ + TOBII + G-SYNC (For best performance)
If I get the option with factory G-Sync monitor, will the B173ZAN03.3 also have G-Sync?
Are NON-GSYNC AND G-SYNC monitors wired differently?
Does it matter which model I choose NOW? Suppose I want to have a 4K 120HZ with G-SYNC in the future?
Thanks, you're the best

There also exists a build with:
17-inch FHD 360Hz 5ms; 300 nits; 100% sRGB; Tobii eye tracking.

It's what I bought and it's awesome -
I know, but in my country it's not available anymore and thus it has not G-Sync.

Hello guys and Alienware users. I`m having a problem with my Area51m-R2 Cardreader module. I`ve recently used an SD CARD adapter and a microsd card, and the SD Adapter Broke 2 or 3 pins inside my cardreader! Can anyone help me in fiding a replacement board module.
I`ve contacted Dell Support using the Whatsapp channel but they told me that the SD Card Reader Module Board dosen`t sell as an spare or part like brackets or 2.5 SATA3 to dual M.2 NVME boards.
If you need aditional info please contact me using private message or post here an i will reply shortly.

I've done it, I waited for ages but I finally bought the Area 51m r2
Specs..
I9 10900k
16GB 3200Mhz (I now wished I didn't do this upgrade and bought the Crucial 32GB upgrade with lower latency)
300hz screen
2080 Super
Basic drives, I will put a couple of Samsungs in there Raid 0 and a 2TB SSD.
I kept reading about the 3080's being limited to 150 Watt and didn't want a small thin laptop with screaming fans and power balancing. I wanted a device that I could use on TV (LG OLED 120Hz), at my desk with monitor or on my lap if required, I hope I made the right choice, im planning on selling my old laptop and desktop and just having the one device.Last edited: Sep 28, 2021RoDexter81 likes this. -
I've been playing Genshin Impact in 4k resolution (max/Full setting) with an external LG TV also 4k for at least 9 months but this week my Alienware Area 51M R2 lost HDMI signal with TV many times a day. I have to turn off the Alienware for at least 20 minutes and turn on to have HDMI signal again so i believe the problem is "overheating". I do not have any other 4K tv to confirm if the problem is the notebook or the external TV but somehow I decide to test something else. As soon my notebook loses HDMI signal, I unplug the cable from notebook and plug it on my Playstation 5 and the TV shows the image just fine. After that I unplugged the cable from Playstation and plug it back to the notebook, no image at all - I still have to turn off the notebook and wait 20 minutes to cooldown. I checked the temperature and the range is CPU (70~90 C/158~194F) and GPU (45-65/113~149F) before it lost the HDMI signal. I want to change the thermal paste from GPU and CPU to test it out but since notebook is under warranty, I believe I should contact Dell first. I am searching if someone else had the same problem with HDMI losing signal when overheating.
-
I wanted to play at 4k as well but these laptops are only hdmi 2.0, I looked into it and I would have chosen 1440p as you should be able to do 120hz on that standard.
I used repair computers for a living, I would say it's must be over heating, really if should be a Dell warranty job. What's the VRM temp? You can download software to give you all that info. Have you tried under volt the CPU and GPU as well?
