Its all about thinnes. The whole new 6 min Youtube video from Dell Alienware is all about it's new X-series models thinnes. I can't see Dell Alienware will change course/directiotion after this pep-talk about their design change @ratchetnclank @Normimb @Mr. Fox @Spartan@HIDevolution

Alienware Declassified | X Series Design. The thinnes is just incredible.

Although we cannot say it about the X-series feces, some things that are thin are delicious.

Sometimes going fat is the only acceptable solution. The best laptops are extra fat.

But, I digress. We live in a time where being awesome is unpopular. Too many people value style over substance and form over function.

The design of that industrial designer's beard explains a lot: painfully flawed, but he obviously thinks it's cool.

Thank you for posting this. It is a heck of a deal and I was able to grab one. Cashback is already showing in my account to release 2-22. So basically got it for 3200-450=2750. Was going to wait for alder lake refresh but can't pass it up for that.

I'm going to feel like an idiot asking this, but has anyone else experiencing their x17 come back on when closing the lid once it's been shutdown already?
I've never seen something like that and almost wondering if it's some hardware fault.
Can't see it being a setting.

I can only tell you there is a bios option to start PC when the lid opens in the bios. Start with disabling that and see if it fixes your issue.

Hey all, I just ordered this laptop after ALMOST springing for the Zephyrus S17 instead and I feel like I definitely made the right choice.

My question is...does the 360 hz rtx 3070 model have the light up trackpad or is that only for the 3080 variant?

I am getting the 3070 model with the slim power supply, Is the general consensus here that the big power brick is a better option for home use to avoid throttling?

The laptop will draw as much power as it needs to, the benefit of using a bigger than necessary charger is that the charger can run cooler.
For example, if a laptop demands 240watts and you have a 240watt charger, its basically maxxing it out so it will run pretty hot, compared to if you are asking a 330watt charger to supply 240watts then the 330watt is not being maxxed out so it will run cooler

I have had no issues with the slim 240w PSU. Just under volt the CPU with throttle stop and you are good to go. Make sure to hit that MUX switch in the bios for full performance as well. The 3070 in these models has the good Samsung VRAM so it’s underclocked, it can easily hit 8000 to 8500 mhz for a good boost to bandwidth at no cost to stability.

Yeah this R2 is going to be last gaming notebook for me. I'm going with a desktop next, it was good while it lasted but all the manufacturers have shown their hand and desktop replacements aren't coming back.

    Here's my Cinebench R23 score 46X -125 mV
It stayed at 46X the whole time and max temp was 92C.

Idk if it's good or not but seem's pretty decent to me.

The only thing I did was apply liquid metal(i.e. Conductonaut in my case) to the CPU. For the GPU I stuck with Thermalright TFX. I didn't touch the memory gear mode or the vbios. I did overclock my CPU by +400 Mhz in addition to any GPU overclocks.

Yea, your scores are crazy. When I compared yours vs my best, its interesting. Similar GPU freq but your memory is freak memory. How did you OC that soo damn high? 330+ more than me. Crazy. Seems like the LM on the gpu didnt do much to help my freq.

Then on the CPU, I have you beat in CPU freq and memory speed and you still edged me out. Straight up crushed me.

The stock 512GB one is PCIE 3.0 so i would put the stock one in the 2nd slot and out the new one in the first slot and use it as a boot drive.

I just got two 1tb 980 pro's and RAID'd them. Not so for the speed difference but because it was cheaper than a 2tb 980 pro. But the speed is real fast.

Dell is nothing if not consistent. Silly me thought a two-month order window would be enough time to make sure my son would receive his new PC before Christmas. And when I ordered it the estimated delivery date was December 16th. Nothing fancy. Just an Aurora R13 with a core i5 and a RTX 3070 GPU. All was fine and it went into production on the 14th. But here comes Scrooge McDell. Just got the inevitable order delay notice with the new delivery date of December 27th.

Since bad things come in threes this was number two. The first big bad thing happened yesterday when I was notified by my sons' school that the faculty was made aware of a student selling illegal drugs on school property. They reacted swiftly and it wasn't only drugs they found but also a firearm. Credit goes to the school or shall I say the school's police. My son's school district has its own police force, and they always have two armed officers on campus for all of its 121 schools. I asked my son about it when he got home, and he didn't know anything about it.

Waiting for the shoe to drop for the 3rd bad thing.

    Hi all, just noticed this:
    https://twitter.com/Alienware/status/1471525632660152323

A new thinner version of the X series. Judging by the extra thinness and also the smaller vent sizes, I do believe it is a laptop that is smaller than 15 inches.
My Alienware 13-r3 is really in need for a replacement as a work laptop. Hope this will be a suitable replacement!

i would imagine that in January the new X17, X15, and whatever this is would be revealed since alder lake and the super/TI mobile GPUs will be announced around then as well. Thank god for bestbuy elite member status, it gives me a 3 month return policy so I have till January 16 to return my X17 to put towards the new one

On the X17, can someone tell me if Hybrid Sleep is available in the Power and Sleep advanced options by default? I had to reload my system and I could have sworn that I had hybrid sleep there before (though I never checked it so thought it was on by default). When I do a powercfg -a it only shows fast start, Standby S0, and hibernate, with no S3 available.

I have noticed 2 weird bug with my unit.

Sometimes i power up the computer, and i have to reboot a couple times for the monitor to work.
As if the mux switch is not making the switch to the discrete GPU in time and so the computer is booting but the image don't appear.
I have to randomly reboot the computer a couple times untill the image appears and than everything is 100% fine, if i put hybrid mode i never get this problem.

Also when using the "Rainbow wave" keyboard profile, the CAPS key, 9 key , 0 key , - key and = keys are not lighting up.
If i choose static blue or spectrum it works just fine.

So far it's the only 2 bugs i've had with my laptop.

Hi owners, I had a question about high density vs. low density ram

my unit is shipping with •RAM Size: 32GB (2X16GB) Up to 3200MHz DDR4 SoDIMM Non-ECC

I assume this is the high density ram and I wanted to know if switching to low density ram is worth the money and if so which sticks do the best job?

    Cheers.

You have to find if it's JEDEC and 1.2V compatible, if it is than it will work.
If youre looking for the best kit available tho, the one i linked is the best one right now.
