the spec sheet for that ram says it's 1r*16, but it's actually double sided and the sticker on the actual ram stick says 2r*8

 

I appreciate the posts on what RAM to get, as I pre ordered for my system which only arrived on Friday. I went a bit crazy and decided to get 3x32 3200MHz DDR4 SoDIMM of the Kinston Fury. Installed easily and appears to be working fine.

I also upgraded the hard drive as I wanted to replace the 512GB with the Samsung 1TB Gen 4 drive. I messed up the installation as I installed and went straight to Samsung new migration software (V4) to clone the drive. I think I needed to check the bios settings before trying to copy (there was some raid setting that needed changing), as it crashed on me. I'm not that experience and ended up having to do a clean install of everything (with kind help of Dell tech support) on the new hard drive.
Everything is up and running now, so I hope this post helps someone else.

So today i decided to call Dell regarding this problem.
They offered to
A. Replace the monitor and cable to the motherboard.
B. Replace the unit with a brand new unit with cross-shipping, they said it would take a minimum of 90 days to receive the new unit, so i can keep this one in the mean time and whenever i receive the new unit i send back the old one.

So of course i took the second option, to be honest it's annoying but the performance is not impacted and the computers works just fine once i can get it to boot with the screen.
I'm quite happy about Dell technical support today.

 

This is a public service announcement that you may or may not know but before any installing Nvidia driver updates be sure to enable enhanced graphics AKA the mux switch in your system BIOS. I keep forgetting to do this and as a result your system will not allow you to install the updated driver and keep restarting during installation.

On a separate issue. I have my X17 set to shut down when I close my lid, as opposed to sleep, and sometimes my system won't shut down but restart instead. It's a minor nuisance which no doubt is a windows issue. I have never owned a laptop that never didn't have intermittent issues when performing this action.

On a third issue I am having issues with chrome which refuses to update without having to download and install over the previous version. I get an error message otherwise. I had this issue with chrome before under Windows 10, now Windows 11, and nothing resolves it other than a clean reinstallation of Windows. Troubleshooting included removing all extensions, using revo uninstaller, removing all traces of chrome in the registry, and using the reset and cleanup option in the settings. I also classify this as a minor nuisance.

 

Could you please post AIDA results once you install it. I'm wondering if 3200 CL 20 is faster than 3466 CL 22.

 

So it looks like bios 1.5 released with some vulnerabilities patches. Anyone else try it yet? Might install later and run some benchmarks to see if they made any other tweaks

I’m staying away, I enjoy the great performance out of my 11800H in 1080P gaming and the fact that I can still undervolt.

 

Love to help out --- What do I need to do? is there a youtube video to watch? -- I downloaded trail of AIDI64 extreme trial version, but it puts trial all over the place, so not sure if that is what you want.

 

Yep, not always fun have to lose performance or in worst case risk have to wait for tech support in the holidays (not all can fix it themself). And you never know what Dell want to add in for next firmware updates. And the timing for new firmware updates couldn't come on a better time as etc right before Christmas/New year Holidays

Yep, and Dell have own policy if you brick your machine. And they still let Microsoft flash your bios via Win update if they have a newer version ready. This even if they know the risks

Anyone with a X15 or X17 can share me their parts number for their 240w power adapter?

I reached out to Dell 2 weeks ago and bought the power adapter they offered and its really big for a 240w. When asked about the slim one they said they dont have the part number and can't find it.

 

From my recent purchase the invoice says
"Adapter 240W 450-AKWF 1
Power Cord (US/Philippines) 450-AKTH 1"
I think P?N says CN-OG5K8G-CH200-1BA-1561-A01 and has DP/N 0G5K8G

I can’t wait until we are talking about a 51m r3 with 200 watt 3080ti. Really won’t be upgrading from a 3080 165watt to a 3080ti 165 watt, but 200 watt would potentially be worth it.

 

Unfortunately, the wait for the 51M R3 is likely to work out like so:

 

yeah, I think the 51m series is dead. The market wants thin and light, and Dell figured out that they can’t offer upgradeability anymore.

I like the idea of Concept Luna. I respect the Dell engineers who clearly put a lot of work into the project. But even if Concept Luna was a real product, I don’t trust the company to support it long term. That’s not how Dell works. Whether the market deeply and exclusively wants thin and light is not clear at all (e.g. the recent resurgence of interest in modularity and upgradeability), although it is obvious that Intel and Ngreedia (likely in cahoots with big OEMs) are pushing for that. Even if Frank Azor returned to Alienware and decided to resurrect his 51M - which the incoming management might have wanted to kill off on the basis of the usual corporate politics alone - what components would he use?

 

I highly doubt the 51m was a commercial success, appart from the people here and the very laptop nerd people we're not buying it due to its size. I browse reddit, twitter, different forum including this one and the hype lasted a couple weeks at most.

On the other hands, the hype that the X15 and X17 is getting from reviewer, casual people, people on reddit, on YouTube etc etc is on a whole another level.

I believe big chunky desktop replacement should probably only be made by Clevo since they are good at doing it and been doing it for years. While i really liked my 51m, my X17 is a lot more portable and i just love being able to transport easily when traveling and i think the majority of people want just that.

 

Damn .... Dell just sent me an email confirming the replacement and they actually offered me a free upgrade as well ...
Can't complain about that They said i will get it by Jan 18 which is in like 3 weeks?
All of that for 2100$ + taxes is a pretty good deal i think!

They can definitely do that in the US, but the law actually forbid them to do that in Canada so I'm not worried a bit, I will get a brand new unit for sure.
Let's put your Alienware hate aside, Dell customer support is actually great when it comes to returns and refund, at least from my humble experience.

 

Yep, if you have bought a product with warranty and it fails hard they are forced to help you out in one way or another and within a set timeframe. And this regardless if you are in U.S, Canada or EU. But the rules how the products looks like when you get it is maybe different between the different countries warranty rules. I only posted the info so all can see what people can expect/risk get as replacement. And this apply from all brand.

The first one you linked (da240pm200) i believe is the 240W dell slim (Google search link to both 240W model)
The second one you linked is the 330W one.

I want the 240W Alienware super slim which is a lot smaller than the 2 other.
And other than Alieexpress or CPUmedics, i just can't find it anywhere official.

Where did you get it from? Dell is saying it's "Not in production" anymore and they can't sell it.
And only other place is Alieexpress @ 200$ CAD.

 

Dell usually don't sell spare parts. Equal difficult to get an 330W from Dell Store.

And if they have removed the slim PSU as option they probably have a real reason for that. Either no profits gain from it or they don't trust the quality.

Did you mean whether Dell supports eGPUs?
It has two TB4 ports, so it should work with two eGPUs even. The question is how many PCIe lanes each of them gets.

 

It looks like Alienware finally fixed their supply chain.

My replacement laptop was confirmed on december 23rd, in production on december 23rd and today the cancel button is now grayed out meaning the production is done.

I Just got an X17, Support Assist and Alienware Update both say that all the Drivers and the bios are up to date, It is the 11800H 16GB RAM 1TB NVMe RTX 3070 360HZ FHD Version of the Laptop running Windows 11 21H2. Windows update also says that everything is up to date.

I'm hoping someone here can help with this issue I've been having. When I go into the bios and set enable hybrid graphics/advanced optimus to disabled, which is supposed to get more performance in games, all my games lag and are completely unplayable until I go back into the bios and set it back to enabled. Once I do that then everything goes back to playable with no lag. Is there any way you can help me figure out why this is happening, and how to get it to work the way that it is supposed to be working.

I have it connected with a USB C to DisplayPort cable to an LG 34GK950F monitor. I tried this also on the internal monitor and the lag is still there with no monitor plugged in either.

I really appreciate any and all help that any of you can give me in this matter.

 

Have you checked that its just not inversed and that when you enable Optimus that both GPU are actually enabled?

 

with its set to enabled i can see both gpus in the nvidia control panel, when i set it to disabled, i only see the 3070 in the nvidia control panel and all my games lag.

 

Use DDU and completely uninstall everything nvidia related and reinstall the GPU driver via geforce.com

Try that and see if it changes anything

 

i just used DDU and uninstalled and reinstalled both the intel and Nvidia GPU Drivers, im still having the same issues
