Okay, I have just installed 1.6.0, but see no difference (I am not overclocking/undervolting)
Anyway - is there someone who has problems with "Jack Mic"?
Headphones and Jack for phones is working. Jack for "discovering" devices is working.
Jack for Microphone with headset (or headphones with mic module - like my Earpods) are too low level.
I have to almost put a mic in my mouth to let others hear me (Skype/Teams)... what should I do or what to change?
I tried to modify 100% in Realtek Console (Windows App), I tired with AWCC settings dedicated for "Jack Mic"... no difference.
-------- Edit : Dec 3rd 2020 -------
Okay, I have discovered (after two days of "fight" and "tests"), that when I set a general VOLUME on connected headphones to 80-100%, then Mic is loud...
I usually have volume at lower levels, because I do not want to hear it that high - I have good ears![]()
But this is strange that general headphones volume is strongly related with Mic sensitivity - they are not independent :/

I've been trying to make work the Windows Hello feature but I can't.
I downloaded the latest drivers and I'm up to date in windows updates.
Has anyone been able to use it? -
As far as I know neither the M17 or M15 R3 supports windows hello “yet”. There has been talks that it would be added in Microsoft future updates but I believe that it only pertains to the ones equipped with Tobii eye camera.
-
-
Thats great to know that it does support it now and it also great to know that I am not updated to current events
.
I assuming yours has Tobii Eye camera? -
It can't be different my friend
I think also that it's possible that both of us have a little right in here - me, because it's Tobii, You, because without it Hello could be unavailable... Hmmm... that's a good question

Is it recommended to NOT update AWCC if the version I have now is working? There's a lot of comments online saying Windows updates messes with AWCC software each time. I have encountered the bug before and I don't want to troubleshoot it again if anything goes wrong lol
-
Yesterday it was updated by me via AWCC directly and I see no problems. First WinUpdates, then Dell updates. Everything I am doing via Support Assist tool
-
Having an odd issue would appreciate if someone could check if this behaviour is the same on their system for me.
I'm setting up a second account on my m15 R3 for my daughter to use, she needs to be able to control the fan profiles, colors and sounds etc... When she logs in, she doesn't see AWCC at all, so I logged into my account, and made a shortcut from my start menu to the desktop, then copied that shortcut to her desktop. Now she can open AWCC, but it prompts over and over for a MS Store password. What the Dell?
Edit: should add that I tried putting her account in admin group and no difference.
Can someone else confirm that if they create a second user that user can't access AWCC? -
I like my m17R3 so far, CPU temp is still extremely high and gets throttled a lot like the old laptop but at least the graphic card is much cooler, running most of the time up to 65/70 max while my old laptop the gtx1080 would run up 80 and get throttled. I have played WoW and overwatch 5-8hr sessions and no problem.
Hopefully this will last for me until the rtx4 series comes out in couple years before upgrading again. -
Not entirely sure. I think the Dell Alienware forums may be more helpful for this.
-
Wrong... there are no topics with these things and they know less than people over here
I do not think that this could be unavailable... AWCC should be installed with selected option "for me and other users" not "only for me". That could be a problem.
If not - just install it via that another account and she should verify its accesibility... maybe this helps.etern4l likes this. -
Can someone give me a guide or something please for repasting my M15 R3?ive done it before on normal laptops but this one is flipped and is scaring me.

My guess is that's the point. Soldered RAM and inverted motherboard: what better way to repel advanced users who might know what they are doing and are thus be prone to scrutinising and critiquing the product.

Also what paste do you guys recommend?I have phobya nanogrease and IC diamond, someone told me mastergel maker ultra was good?should I get it?
-
You already have the best non-LM paste, and it's not IC Diamond.

Thank you!I was doing the process today,I got stuck on these screws at the top left and right.I needed to take these out to remove the black outer shell thing lol.no matter what screw head I used,it wouldn’t budge and it seems very fragile.any tips?and anything else I should look out for? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ifixit...JAV2k2M2GeRu7MizAvBoC_AoQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds Should I buy that toolkit to be safe?

BIOS update v1.7.2 - date: Jan 06, 2021.
Official info about the update:
- Improve the system stability.

It would be nice if there is more details about what actual stability issues the BIOS fixes. Does anyone know?
I have been fighting BSOD VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE nvlddmkm.sys on cold boot or return from sleep. Have done everything cleaning with DDU each time and trying all latest NVIDA drivers both studio and game versions. Even gone back to DELL's NVIDIA driver (which is quite old ->456.87)
The only improvement came when I turned of Windows fast bootup. I have been enjoying Windows Hello now with the new TOBI update tho.
Resolve 17 beta (full studio version) works really well on this Alienware utilising the RTX 2080 even editing 4-6-8K Raw. I love the machine, but just wish it was a little more stable for me on startup. Maybe I should try this new BIOS 1.7.2 ? Hopefully DELL can get it sorted. -
If clean install doesn't help, it's a mobo/GPU issue unfortunately. Dell should replace it for you.
-
Anybody have a link to the m17 r3 180w-200w 2080 super bios vbios flash? To flash the 2080s.
-
I mean the thin m17 have 150w vbios.Spartan@HIDevolution and JCordero31 like this.
-
Yes but I believe someone came up with the 180w 190w and 200w bios update. The 190w-200w doesn't let you charge the battery but gives your 2080s more power and can squeeze a few more mhz out of it. I'd use the 180w less heat
-
And you are sure the vbios isn't from Area-51m R2 who have 180-200W vbios? Dell won't throw out 200W bios for the thin models.Spartan@HIDevolution and seanwee like this.
-
I think someone modded a bios from the another company to work with the alienware one. They did it for the hp omen 17 laptop too.
-
All I can remember is that the modded vbios for etc the HP Omen was done on basis of the Area-51m vbios. This was for the 2080 Non Super. Maybe bro @DaMafiaGamer is able to remember more than me but I doubt that the 180-200w modds you talk about was done from the thinner Alienware's.Spartan@HIDevolution, DaMafiaGamer, JCordero31 and 1 other person like this.
-
Your right I found the thread after hours of searching its only for regular 2080. Someone sold me a m17 r3 10980hk 2080s for 1800 I couldn't resist since they go for 2800 on ebayseanwee likes this.

Soldered RAM, but but but - look here folks, the amazing voltage regulator nobody else in the world is talking about! Sounds like the soldering nonsense continues. Well, they won't get a penny from me.Last edited: Jan 30, 2021Papusan, seanwee and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

I am experiencing an issue with smooth dimming with Tobii.
Yesterday I just updated BIOS to 1.7.2 (Support Assist did this automatically) and UHD drivers.
Now I see that when I am loosing a gaze - screen is dimming down with shuttering - not smoothly like it was previously.
The same when I am coming back to my screen - it is dimming up but again not smoothly....
Anyone has this issue and can help with it? -
DELL are coming out to replace M/B onsite. Hopefully that resolves the issue.etern4l likes this.
-
So I accidentally updated to the latest bios on my m15 r3 and luckily can still undervolt. Will a windows update cause me not to be able to undervolt anymore or is that only done through bios updates?
-
DELL came onsite and replaced M/B. Seems better now.

Hey man, thanks again for helping me figure out the shunt mod for my laptop. I'm the same user on Reddit. FWIW, here's the results I was able to get...

That's pretty good.
On par with 3070 Max-p cards granted those are disappointing
This is from an Asus Scar 15 fyi. 115w+15w 3070M
-
Is it yours? I've been eyeing the Scar 15 w/ 3080 and shunt modding that one up to ~150-160.
-
I'd get the GE66 for max shunting performance. You'll want to get a 280w ac adapter, and the Scar 15/17 only goes up to a 240w adapter.
That and the GE66 has better gpu side cooling and the ability to disable optimus for higher performance. -
Some buddies of mine that work over at ASUS told me an ASUS 280W adapter should get recognized properly by the Scar 15 without any problems. I guess I can test it out, but also no big loss if it doesn't work out. This is also going to be my new primary laptop for software development so I'd rather have an AMD chip for better battery life away from the wall.seanwee likes this.

That's reasonable. Good luck

How is the m17 R3 compared to the Area 51m R2? And how do these Alienwares compare to the Dell Precision 7720/7730/7740 models? I'm mainly looking at performance and ideally something that isn't going to just overheat/throttle.
-
All will throttle and run hot. Dell Alienware have 100°C as Cpu temp target.
And here is etc Dell Precision 7730 See bolded text from the review.
Temperature
Unfortunately, while the fans in the Precision 7730 get loud, this does not correlate with good thermal management. Surface temperatures reach almost 60 °C on some areas of our review unit when we push it hard, which is worryingly hot. While Dell did not design the Precision for use on a lap, its surface temperatures should still be lower. We suspect that more-powerful variants will get even hotter, perhaps even dangerously so.Spartan@HIDevolution, Vasudev, Normimb and 1 other person like this. -
Will the Area 51m R2 be the least prone to throttling/overheating out of the 3 due to it's larger size then at least?
-
Not if you go into the bios and turn off caspsule updates.. this will prevent Windows from pushing a BIOS update.Sacred_User likes this.

Hey fellas, I need asking for some assistance here. I have a M17R3 w/ 2070 that I purchased a few months back. There was a slight issue a few days ago where my audio suddenly crackled. I restarted the laptop and everything was fine. However, I don't know if I'm going crazy but the sound doesn't seem as "crisp" anymore. I re-installed Realtek Drivers from Dell website as well, but I'm questioning if everything is running ok...
So when I go to "Device Manager", and "Sound, video, game controllers"...My Realtek audio does not actually show "Realtek HD Audio", but just "Realtek Audio". When I go see my Sound settings, the default sound name is "Speakers (Realtek(R) Audio)". I'm wondering if my speakers are supposed to be "HD", and would it have correlation to my sound not sounding as "crisp" anymore? I tried the sound with Headphones, and it has no problems though. I usually like to use my laptop without headphones. I have also updated my BIOS, but I don't think that's the issue. I'm not sure what the default Speakers settings are, so if anyone can assist me, that'll be great. Picture shown below:

Hey guys
Need help for my new m17 R3 RTX 2070 Super( still under warranty)
Pc crashes on high gpu demand operatios such as 1080p furmark test or video games.
I was only able to perform a small stress test and upload on youtube.
1080p furmark stress test crashes in a few seconds.
And power button is blinking red and blue after 2-3 minutes im small stress test. Returns to solid blue 1 minute after stress test ended.
Bios 1.7.2
What i have tried so far;
Reinstalled gpu driver
Bios install manually
Reinstall windows many times.
Checked power cord , cables and power socket.
I coordinated with Dell Support . Motherboars and gpu will be replaced. However i need to wait long until parts arrive.
I would try to undervolt and underclock my gpu. But these options are locked. Cpu and ram has no over/underclocck option. Gpu’’ power limit and thermal limit is locked. Unable to unlock in both alienware control center and msi afterburner. The only option to overlock is mhz of gpu ram.
any suggestion peculiar to this situation?
thanks in advance
this is when system crashesLast edited: Mar 13, 2021 -
I have noticed that there is an update of BIOS released in 2021.
