Running Cougar stick and Warthog throttle.
When you install 2007_HCO_Vista_64_RC1.exe, make sure to run it in Vista SP2 compatibility mode and also run as Admin. I don't use Foxy anymore (it does work) but target treats the Cougar stick the same as it does the Warthog stick.RMLJD likes this. -
So in other words -- it doesn't work correctly?
-
I did that and it worked!!... I was able to map some functionality in Mw5 by using a warthog config in the Hotasmappings folder edited with the cougar PID
But....Can't get the throttle or its buttons to register in game. Foxy analyzer sees them....it shows up in Target but can't seem to map anything in the GUI (easy way)
Frustrating.
Incidentally, what rudders are you using now? Figure I'll never get my legacy RCS to runS1ammin likes this. -
Good deal on the progress; and I'm still using the same old legacy TM rudders.
MW5 was a PITA to get going but between https://www.reddit.com/r/mechwarrior/comments/e8yg3w/lets_share_our_hotasmappingremap_files/ and https://github.com/evilC/MW5HOTAS (vJOY is good for obtaining the PID if needed), but https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=769637037 - Aussiedroid-ED-Warthog-Script-3.3.0 is what I use for MW5. The program works very much like the TARGET software, and if I didn't hate TARGET so much I would have used it instead.
But you are on the right path. Need to figure out the correct PID for the throttle and then manually edit the MW5 config. Talk about a seriously unpolished part of setting up this game! I do like playing it though.RMLJD likes this. -
According to Umar at Alienware a BIOS update to fix throttling temp issues will be available early April

Hey all
I received my new a51m last Wednesday direct from Dell. I think it’s an incredible machine and I know this particular model has issues as I read a lot of the posts in this forum about them before ordering.
One issue that I have is regarding the screen and I have a dead sub pixel to the upper left zone of the screen but not far off the centre ( if that makes sense)
Is this acceptable? I’m within the return period still. the laptop took a month to arrive and I ordered when dell had a 14% deal on which saved me over £500.
Is it worth keeping over something that is only noticeable on a white screen when world preceding or browsing? What’s the general consensus on returning it because of this - I don’t have any other issue with the unit.
ThanksAtticus8817 likes this. -
Have you tried burning the colors in? Normally there is an acceptable level of dead pixels within the criteria

I tried using website like js screen fix and other videos that flash the primary colours. I think the colour green on the sub pixel is dead.
It is quite a small dot on the screen - it’s just one of those things that “now I know it’s there”... -
If your unit has warranty, can see if Dell can receive your unit from a local service center. Since we're in some strange viral times, cannot have a serviceman come to your place to do it...
On a side note, I have to repaste my unit soon since it is almost 1 yr and then i remembered how long it took to take apart plus the slightly worn gpu heatsink screw...
Gonna be fun times indeed.

Dell sent an engineer to replace my screen a couple of weeks after receiving it for one dead pixel, it should definitely be covered and I'd make Dell aware ASAP. However, as @LoneSyndal has mentioned it'll likely take some time to get an engineer out due to the current global situation. I'm not sure if they can maybe send you a replacement screen for self-repair (obviously depending on your confidence levels). Returning is likely an option but may take a couple of months for them to receive it back, refund you and then send you a replacement. I'm not sure they'd offer up a full exchange for one dead pixel, but they might do if pushed enough.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
I would have them replace the panel or the unit, never had a machine or monitor with a dead pixel, refuse to do that.CitizenKano, etern4l and RMLJD like this.

I am glad I'm not the only one who loaths TARGET. It shows the cougar but no FW info. Then it won't register any buttons or stick axis in the config section. Its programming requires a IT degree.
The throttle PID suggestion gives me an idea..I actually think it sees the cougar +throttle as one unit, since the throttle plugs to the cougar....I'm going to try deleting the throttle maps and defining the Z axis and other inputs as part of the joystick.
I also ordered the new TM rudders. I'll let u know what I think. I'm seriously looking at the VKG gunfighter. Reviews are great. They should be for that price!
No excuse in modern times for the joystick issues for sure. I miss the polish of the MS produced PC MW games.
Oh to make this a bit on point for the forum. None of this worked while plugged into the left side USB point. Had to switch to the right ports which means I had to order a powered USB hub.
One big criticism of the 51M. Not enough ports..S1ammin likes this. -
Hey all...
Been playing around with 1.5.0. Def an uptick in performance... only thing holding her down now is the power limit on the vbios as it maxes at around 183W. I moved my thermal limit to 79 but will prolly move it to 84 as I think that's a safe operating temp under full load. Should I try the 200W vbios flash? any risk in this? maybe more heat?
Is there a way to find out what display I have... I've searched for it but I cannot locate. Regarding Gsync… I think its working but I may be wrong. I've only attempted this in game with Modern Warfare warzone. The gsync indicator is not there (I have it on but not working in win10?) but my frames mostly hold at 144 with the odd dip down. With Vsync on (and Gsync I think) I experience no screen flicker of any kind in game (MW only). The nvidia gsync test performs as normal full screen as long as I don't alt tab another running program (flickers). It would be nice if I could get more power to not see any dips in fps from 144. I think lowest I seen while playing was above 100 still. Assuming Gsync is working is this fluctuation acceptable or should I be holding 144 steady.
looking forward to responses and I appreciate them all thanks all!Fire Tiger likes this. -

1) Download AIDA64 Extreme Portable
Don't forget to unblock the ZIP file before unzipping it otherwise all the extracted files will have a BLOCKED status since this is a file you downloaded from the internet and Windows puts a BLOCKED status on any downloaded file. For how to do this, see:
"Are you sure you want to run this file?" [Yes or No]
2) Extract the ZIP then launch aida64.exe by right clicking on it and choosing Run as Administrator
3) From the left pane, double click on Display, then click on Monitor
4) Your exact screen name/model will appear on the right beside Monitor Name

That is the current Chi Mei panel - sadly it won't work downgrading BIOS to 1.5.0 as the Gsync is a firmware driven feature. Desktop monitors use a hardware module, but the internal A51M laptop screen uses a firmware implementation to do the same thing which wasn't designed to work with the 1.5.0 BIOS.Fire Tiger and Silverfeyn like this.

What's weird though is that he still has the GSYNC option in the nVIDIA Control Panel. Previously on my Clevo laptops if I were to install a BIOS with no GSYNC support, the GSYNC option in the NVCPL would disappear right away so how come he still has it
-
Yeah - I haven't tried it myself. Wonder if its an interaction maybe with the level of VBIOS or even the panel firmware? Could even be related to the Nvidia driver version. I would *love* to find a way to make this work, but as I recall I didn't get Gsync until after my unit upgraded the BIOS....Fire Tiger likes this.

great question as I am wondering the same exact thing... if I had to guess it seems to be working but I'm probably WRONG lol... fps sticks at 144 and maybe drops to 120 sometimes. I just tested this not long ago but it wasn't a huge variation. Is this Vsync doing its thing or Gsync. I hear you Docsteel… makes sense.

On a side note, I find it really sad that ASUS offers 3200MHz. RAM on a little jokebook while we can't even get 2666 MHz.! = RAM: 16GB DDR4/3200 in dual-channel mode = ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14

If the system bios has a whitelist of valid monitor ID's for GSYNC support it may be patchable if it is exposed via an ACPI _DSM method. If we could get an ACPI dump of both 1.5.0 and the newer version that supports the Chimei panel we could inject the newer BIOS's list at boot to potentially enable support. This kind of thing is pretty common to do with hackintosh ACPI related issues.Docsteel, Fire Tiger and Virale like this. -

Here here! @win32asmguy how would we provide those ACPI dumps? Would it still be viable with how locked down Dells BIOS' are?Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
On the surface it might be working - the frame rate will show "drops" - that is normal, if its synching the buffer up though it feels smooth. I am betting if it *does* work then its some kind of firmware upgrade to the video card or monitor itself, but this starts to get to the edge of my knowledge at that level. My monitor driver version is 10.0.18362.693 - lol the date shows 6/21/....2006 ....

From linux this should work: https://bugs.launchpad.net/lpbugreporter/+bug/752542
You could also use Clover / OpenCore to get a dump. I found a few methods that way listed here: https://khronokernel.github.io/Getting-Started-With-ACPI/Manual/dump.html. Windows doesn't really have a way to apply an ACPI patch at boot either, so for this to work you would eventually need to use a bootloader like those.
I did check @ssj92 youtube videos on Hackintoshing his 51m but unfortunately I did not see any ACPI dumps in what he posted. In theory even the first version of the bios should have some kind of list with the original AUO and LG GSYNC panels that were shipped.Fire Tiger likes this. -
Hello again everyone, today I got my A51m and replaced the ram and added my drives with no problems and so far everything looks great (even the temps!).
Just one question: I've noticed the display has quite warm colors by default I guess this is the eyesafe technology is there a way to disable it?
I'll add some information you might be interested in: the display is chimei, bios is latest version, 2666Mhz ram is capped at 2400Mhz, so basically nothing new from my unit.Fire Tiger likes this. -

That's a generic driver for all monitors, same for me:
Speaking of which, I recently asked the developer of Display Driver Uninstaller, why is there an option to remove (present and non-present monitor drivers)? It didn't make sense to me.
I was surprised to see this so I enabled Show Hidden Devices and then expanded Monitors and whatd'ya know, I found like 10 different hidden monitors (from past driver reinstallations) so I deleted them all.

Yes, I actually ordered a powered USB hub at the same time I ordered my 51M. They will never build a laptop with enough USB ports for my setup, lol! Until I rebuilt my desktop I had about 8 USB devices connected into my 51M.RMLJD likes this. -
Did you find and delete all of the other "hidden devices" in Windows 10 Device Manager. You'll probably find a crap ton of ghost devices under multiple categories.Fire Tiger and Papusan like this.

Is your Area-51m ordered with 2400MHz ram? And with what bios version? The one showed in Dell's download page?
Quite intresting...
After installing 2 16 gig 2666 mhz modules, i get this at every start up.
10 different hidden monitors? I install a lot different graphics drivers, but only 1 hidden monitors show up. Maybe a screw up due the DCH filhy drivers? I mean I have tested the unwanted drivers only once on my machine long time ago. I prefer the standard drivers.Fire Tiger likes this. -
In Italy we can only order models with 2400Mhz RAM, bios is 1.8.1 it came with it, I still didn't get the chance to check it in detail.
I think the guy in that thread is not using the slots in the right order and/or is also trying to add different sticks to the ones he already has.Fire Tiger and Papusan like this. -

To be fair, we are kind of used to it here, pages are translated from their ".com" versions and sometimes there are things that are not actually available, this is true for every brand, you may even be able to find somewhere where it talks about WIFI6 but we don't have that option in any configuration.Fire Tiger and Papusan like this.

I am getting 2 A51m with 512gb M2 and 32gb RAM each.
I want to buy 2x 1tb and 64gb ram for one machine and use the parts of the first for the second.
Any recommendations for M2 and RAM?
Corsair or HyperX 2666 are cheap (2400 is almost the same price)
For M2 Samsung 970 Evo or Sabrent TCL.
Any pros/cons for these parts? -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
The HP EX950 is the best performance to price ratio for the m.2 NVMe SSDs right now. -
It costs the same as Samsung and is more expensive than Sabrent. Is the HP better than these two?
-
Just went to 64 GB of HyperX memory for $303 USD out the door from Amazon, added an M.2 Samsung 970 Evo Plus (1 TB) as second M.2. You cannot go wrong with these from my experience.
-
For the HyperX I think it’s the maximum for this machine.
But the price of the Evo Plus is the double of the normal Evo in germany. -
One or both Dimms in the wrong slot. Had the same when testing my modules.
-
Ooof - double? Wow here in the US its a marginal difference -I mean about 20%. Not sure when you said "maximum" if you mean most memory, 64 GB is the most officially but I have heard rumors of people with 128 GB... no idea of details, just seen references to it.
-

I had 128GB of Samsung RAM in the previous Area-51m that I owned.alaskajoel, Docsteel and Fire Tiger like this. -
With maximum I mean the clock speed. What I read 2400mhz is all the 51m will support is this correct? But the price difference is less then 10€ for 2666mhz.
64gb is enough for gaming.
I made a mistake with the prices, the Pro is the double. If I run 2 of them in Raid 0 is there a huge difference?
I saw pci gen4 NVMe but I don’t think they are supported.
These are the actual prices:
970 Evo 1TB - 176€
970 Evo Plus 1TB 223€
970 Evo Pro 1TB 339€
HP EX950 1TB - 172€
Sabrent TCL 1TB - 142€ -
I use RAID 0 with 2 Corsair Mp510 1TB and there is no difference in speed for a single driver. I think when using two units the pci speed drops to 2X.
I regretted not buying just a 2TB unit.
Sorry my bad english.
@Tim92 -
2TB of Most brands is actually sold on Amazon and will cost more than 2x 1TB
