But why is that bad? I thought that this is necessary to make the fans ramp up when a certain heat temp is reached

And why is this needed if you make a proper fan control in firmware? And you like that the notebook manufacturers can put in a hell lot temp skin sensors all over on the MB so they can add in more throttle mecanisms? Telemetry is disgusting in any form or shape!
The tech was meant for Jokebooks with not proper cooling...
Understanding Intel's Dynamic Power and Thermal Framework 8.1: Smarter Throttling anandtech.com
"Ultimately, coming from IDF 2015 it isn’t clear at this time when we can expect this to show up in 2-in-1s, tablets, and other devices. But given that DPTF is a software suite it’s well within possibility that devices already out there with DPTF could receive an update that implements these improved throttling mechanisms"
This package contains the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework driver. The package is supported on Dell Alienware, Inspiron, Vostro, XPS, Precision, and Latitude systems that run Windows 10 (64-bit) operating system. Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework is a power and thermal management solution that is used to resolve (fan noise), overheating, and performance-related issues of the system.
"This all began when the motherboard initially failed and they replaced the motherboard which began overheating. They have since replaced the motherboard again, the cooling unit, and now they are replacing the motherboard again. Does Dell just refuse to use decent thermal paste? Or is this just a bad design?"Last edited: Jun 8, 2020 -
I have acquired a M17xR2, finally. Yes you read that correctly. M17x not m17.
Funny I can run 1333Mhz natively as intended and with an unlocked BIOS overclock the i5 LOL
It might we don't know 100% unless someone tries
I'm thinking we would need a different heatsink. But no one has official pics of the card itself yet.

Hey guys
I have a good discount on a i7-9700kf
Do you think it would work with the area 51 ?
I don't see why it wouldn't see the i7-9700k works .
Do you think they would be a big improvement in temps compared to the i9 9900k ? -
Hyper-threading makes CPU's run hotter, no question. that being said, you might consider literally just turning off the HT on the 9900K and hit a happy medium (Note that I don't know the difference with HT off on a 9900K vs 9700K).
http://blog.logicalincrements.com/2019/02/comparing-i9-9900k-i7-9700k-8700k-gamers-gaming/#:~:text=It has little impact on,hotter than the i7-9700k. -

Thanks for the information!
Do you know what's the easiest to disable the HT? -
Basically, its boot up and go into BIOS and you should have an option to turn it off (I have a 9700K myself):
This might help: https://www.techjunkie.com/disable-...en you get to the,may differ on your computer. -
Looks like the Area 51M R2 went up no real options outside of disk and memory, and no Gsync....

You're most welcome. All drivers have been stolen from the Area-51m R2 minus the ones which are not applicable. I have tested them to ensure compatibility. The only driver that is still used from the Area-51m is the Tobii Driver as the newer isn't compatible.Fire Tiger likes this. -

On the 9900K there is an option to set HYPERTHREAD CONTOL to ENABLED or DISABLED. Secont tab in the bios.
Also just tested CB15 bench with HT off and results are terrible. 300 and 400 points less. I can run 5.0Ghz but score are 1700. With HT on at 4.9Ghz i can score 2100. Also temps are not that much better with HT off after my first results. I will keep it enabled for now.Last edited: Jun 10, 2020DreDre, Docsteel, IXVIXXII and 1 other person like this. -

Has Dell given you guys a technical explanation for why the card layout changed between vanilla RTX and the Super GPUs?
Seems super lame they advertise upgradability and then don't even give you the option within the same generation of Nvidia GPUs.
Seems worse than what MSI did when they said our 900M machines would take Pascal. Nine levels of Hell were raised and we ended up with the trade in program.Papusan likes this. -

oh no I format a lot. OCD bro. So when I say I got performance, it is because of the entire driver suite. I can't tell what exactly caused this but I'm happy. Heck I took the benchmark while NOD32 Antivirus was on not disabled. That's how light that Antivirus is. -

Hey spartan
So just taking all the new drivers from the new area R2 and installing them on the R1 allowed your computer to run better ? -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
yes, slightly, I tested them all first to ensure which ones work for us. I previously stated that the new Tobii Driver from the R2 doesn't work on our R1 but I tried again today and it does work so I will include that in the next update as well.

You can surely download them from Dell's website. That's where I got em from just put em in numbered folders so people know the proper installation order.
PS: The Intel HD Graphics driver from other laptops like the M15/M17 R3 doesn't install on the Area-51m R1 but luckily the one from the R2 installs just fine. A much needed update for the new Windows build as the one we have for the R1 is more than a year old.Last edited: Jun 10, 2020 -

The drivers are organized in numbered folders with the correct installation order.
When Install the LAN Driver, Choose CUSTOM, then uncheck the box which says Killer Software. You can also expand the Drivers and uncheck Ethernet Drivers, E3100. You only need the E3000 Drivers. Keep the DELL Checkbox.
The WLAN Driver must be installed from Device Manager by right clicking on the WLAN Card, choose Update Driver, then browse to the folder where the drivers are located.

Ive finally got a dell technician coming to replace the screen tomorrow as when I received the laptop there was a stuck/ dead pixel. I really like the R1 despite its flaws - which if im honest have not really experienced. (except the annoying GPU temp slider being stuck - thanks to @Spartan for advising the fix)
Any way I was wondering what kind of experience to expect from a Dell technician and if I need to watch out for anything - i.e damage that they may cause - checks to make while they are still here etc?
Many ThanksFire Tiger and jclausius like this. -

Advice: stay next to him and watch. The risk of damaging is very high on a panel switch. Don't worry if he brakes anything, Dell has a good warranty, they will repair if anything happens. Hopefully all goes well.Biker Gremling, Docsteel, DreDre and 3 others like this.

Is there anything in particular to look for damage wise? I will have to work through the day ( from home so not too bad) so may not be able to be with him the entire time. Therefore id like to check while he is still here if possible so that the technician/dell can be accountable should damage occur. I'm sure things will go ok - but I've had some poor experiences with people in past damaging things and not telling me about it and only find out long after the fact.Fire Tiger likes this.

If possible watch them do the teardown. I had my panel replaced due to a dead pixel and when it came to removing the IO shield at the back he was trying to prise it off without having unscrewed the 2 back screws. I reminded him they were there.
My tech was pretty heavy handed but got the job done and when he was tidying up he asked me to re-run the EPSA test and do a bit of a self check to make sure all seemed well which it did.Biker Gremling, DreDre, jc_denton and 1 other person like this. -

While this may be true, the panel swap is pretty simple if they are sending the whole panel/lid, which i have to assume they are. It's the bottom panel, the back exhaust shroud and then 8 screws, 6 of which are on the hinge itself and the whole thing just lifts off. I would say it's brain dead simple, but I have seen some of the techs pry panel open with screwdrivers because they are impatient so....Biker Gremling, Spartan@HIDevolution, CitizenKano and 1 other person like this.

I just had my panel switched from a dell tech. If your tech cant do it then computer fixing may not be a good trade for them.. it is the most easy thing to do..
They replaced the whole lid on mine.
Make sure they put the right panel back in. I sent my system out for repair, and it came back with the wrong panel. It came back with the chi mei D model of the display and not the F .. The D does not have g-sync.. You can check what model they put In with a quick hwinfo64 check. Just an FYIBiker Gremling, DreDre and Fire Tiger like this.
