Yes, the OEM drivers work fine with Win H20.

For a really clean system, I advise using DDU. In this way, all driver remains can really be removed. Sporadic blue screens are certainly related to this.

By the way, every time a new Nvidia driver is released, you have to use these steps.

I was using DDU for all my previous attempts but it didn't help of course because of the Intel 630 driver.
Thankful I never encountered those BSOD outside the installation process. But you're right, I'll probably DDU my drivers when I'll have to install the next version.
That's crazy noone talked about that before. What's more weird is that this issue seems to happen only to a few of us despite being the same machine on the same Windows version.

Random question, has anyone here updated their Alienware 51m R2 to the 1.7.0 BIOS? And if so, is it working out alright? No random issues with overclocking being disabled?

Support Centre told me I needed to update to 1.4.0, but looking into it that's a super old BIOS (And won't install from support anyway).

 

Hello sir. No issue with bios 1.7.0 for the 51M R2. You still can undervolt.
Next time i suggest you use the 51MR2 forum.

Goodnight! My downloads on Steam are extremely unstable, as attached. I formatted the PC recently and for 24 hours the situation normalized, but it returned to instability afterwards. I believe it is not a problem of the local internet, because in another notebook that I have the problem does not happen. I tried to update drives, uninstalled and reinstalled Steam, but the problem remains. Does anyone have any suggestions?

UPDATE: Figured it out. It was beta 3 causing some issues, now but now I can't do the OC scanner now tho.

This sounds a lot like the original Class action suit - revived perhaps. I never got a response in either case.

 

Anyone having random disconnects with their Killer E3000 NIC again? My problems started a couple days ago. Tried using the killer software uninstaller and issues persist.

 

Nope, mines been fine, I use it at work almost daily. Did you just install a driver update or anything like that? Did you remove the drivers and try an older one, or did you just removed the Killer software?

 

Got a reply:

I would suggest that you contact a law firm in your local area that handles class action type lawsuits, I would imagine that once one lawsuit has been filed as it has in the US it would lend impetus to actions in other localities. Its at least worth looking into and maybe it will snowball, can you imagine Dell being faced with multiple lawsuits from multiple countries at the same time?

 

I used the killler software uninstaller. Then downloaded the drivers from the intel website, deleted the adapter from device manager making sure to delete the driver as well, then extracted the exe with 7zip and pointed the NIC to the inf file when I reinstalled it.

 

new bios 1.14 - anybody try this yet?

 

Looks like more Intel Security fixes. I would expect more CPU performance hits from every Intel security patch BIOS. I gave up after 1.12 tanked my CPU performance. I went back to 1.7.3 and am not moving from it again.

Was speaking with Dell tech yesterday, got 4 years warranty so i figured i would get my keyboard replaced since when the machine is cool you have to put quite a bit of pressure some of the keys for them to work, everything is fine when machine warms yet, so it just irritating, but the tech was adamant that we had to update the bios before he could send out a replacement keyboard, took me an hour to convience him that it is a keyboard hardware issue, but he was soo stuck on his policy. Luckily i convinced him to send send out a keyboard replacement. Hopefully the dell tech that shows up isn't adamant about him doing the job, as there is nothing in the world that is going to let me allow him to touch it. Keyboard is one of the biggest jobs on this computer, not going to trust it to some "Dell tech". Hopefully he is ok with watching me doing it, I've seen enough "techs" in my life to know this type of job would scare the crap out of most of them.

I don't think so, but i can't remember honestly. I think maybe the versions past that reduced CPU performance due to Intel patches. Most people stick to 1.5.0.

Sad to see this thread slowing down. Guess folks have moved onto bigger and better things. On the bright side I picked up an AGA to use with my M1 once I find a 3080...

 

i still have mine running strong. i even picked up a valve index recently for it too. was trying to get an aga but cant find what i consider a reasonable priced one yet (had bought one for 130 but seller cancelled on me)

 

Do 30xx series work on the AGA now? That was my plan but then I read the 3080 wouldn't work in the AGA.

 

Yes they all work. Newer drivers fixed it.

 

Oh really? They really took a step backward on dropping support for the AGA.... but with it so hard to get video cards, I can see why the felt it might not make sense even for Dell.

 

Hey gents, is anyone seeing this with AWCC 5.3.2.0? My FX tab looks all silly with the laptop invisible (missing). This happened after the update I think, as if the graphics for the 51M are missing on the installation. I reinstalled and same thing…

Only thing I can see are the lighting “surfaces” (alien head, tron, touchpad, keyboard, but not the laptop image)

On my side, the installation of AWCC 5.3.2.0 fails every time I try, so there is no way for me to test it.
It says there are some missing files (.msi) for the installation (same with a downloaded .exe from Dell).

Try uninstalling completely and installing from the Windows Store? The windows app itself will download all the components itself, perhaps you’ll have better luck this way? Worth a shot.

But, don’t blame me if it nukes all your settings!

 

I also have that problem after updating , [but now everything runs terrible, it's like it is permanently set to battery mode, MSI says temps limit is reached even at 40C and I don't go above 900Megaherz clock and 5000 memory, can someone help?]

EDIT: fixed, it was a problem connected to another program but I still have the UI issue above

my area51 acting in a weird way, the laptop out of the blue turns it self off with no warning, i repasted and replaced thermal paste still the issue persists, the laptop turns even at ideling. Bear in my mind im always disconnecting my battery.

I never heard of anyone with a similar issue.

With the resources Dell can muster its just sad how they have made AWCC such garbage now. Now no AGA, Area 51m tricks twice, and now this new "X" crap move.....

 

Funnily enough, the change log mentions a fix for missing graphics in the FX tab for the m15 or m17 LOL

Good evening folks! I've got an AGA connected to my 51m R1 with a 3080 ti in it. I don't see any way to control the card from the AWCC and resizable BAR is disabled. Anyone have experience with this setup and have suggestions? BIOS is 1.5.3 if I remember correctly...

Pretty sure it requires 11th gen cpu..being R1 I'm assuming you are in a 9th generation cpu right?

2. So got an area 51m in 2019..... so 2 year warranty.....1yr Dell manufacture, 1 year store warranty
Now Dell stated it would be upgradeable with CPU/GPU.
I got top spec model and no upgrades available.....
So is that a Store Warranty issue for replacement to Dell Area 51m R2????

 

The reason Dell only offered the 2080 upgrade kit a couple of weeks before they took it down again was because they needed the cards themselves for in-house repairs (RMA).

And they are able to grab more spare parts from the Trade-in campaign

lowkey absolute laziness on my part, but what was ever determined to be the best/compatible memory upgrade for this laptop? Could we get higher speeds than the 2400?
