Is it just me or did Alienware remove the Advanced View from the CPU on AWCC? I have an i9 9900K and BIOS 1.5 Do I now have to use Intel XTU to undervolt etc? What is this **** honestly?

It should still be there. I'm on the newest Bios and AWCC version and it's still there. the only thing they took away is the temp slider on the GPU, but you get that back if you replace the "Profiles.zip" folder with a version from last year.

The advanced view sitll there, you need "profile.zip" from older alienware command center to set gpu temperatures.

I have a crazy issue with my alienware, the machine turns itself off randomly, sometimes once a day, sometimes once a week sometimes twice a day.

Ive replaced thermal pads (which seem to help) and thermal paste is fine, the thermals are way below 60C. My laptop often turns off when im doingloading or leave it to work overnight.

Ive removed the battery and Im connecting both adapters.

    Please advise!

Hello folks, back with more questions. Currently on BIOS 1.3.2. Any reason to upgrade, and if so what's the new consensus on best version without throttling? Trying to get my AGA and 3080 to work more reliably.

I've been 1.5.0 for as long as I can remember and have had 0 issues as this was the last version that did not throttle. To be honest, can't remember what it gives over 1.3.2 so you are probably safe to stay where you are at.

1.3.2 is the version i am running still. I dont see a reason to update because anything past 1.5 throttles the GPU every few seconds while playing any games.

There's a fix for that now, but yeah 1.3.2 should be what people get on their 3k€+ machine.

What is the fix? Sorry I've not been around in a while and I'm on 1.7.3 and still have the 75c limit unless I uses the Asus GPU Tweak tool.

Honestly I just replace the zip in the directed folder with the one linked in the thread before the AWCC has a chance to start it's services and it unlocks for me.

The real fix for the 79°C limit is HWiNFO64 with EC support unchecked before opening. Then you gotta control your fan manually, this is going to bypass the "BIOS" temp limit.

Not that I've noticed. I have MSI afterburner and rivatuner running when I game so I can see things like temp and GPU mhz. There are times when my 2080 was pushing 80 without throttling. I run my fans on max when gaming.

Hi guys, sorry if my question sounds dumb, I couldnt quite understand dell warranty. Like if my unit covered if it gets a specific hardware failure like gpu failure or cpu/mobo; etc. I scanned through and I find it a bit vague.

It states if some "third party repair attempt" warrenty fails. I opened the case to repaste etc.

It means if you take it apart, or someone else that isn't authorized does, and they break something, then that won't be covered under warranty. You can repaste all you want, as long as you don't break anything then it won't void your warranty. Honestly in these cases, the best advice is to just not tell them anymore if you repasted. The sad part is that their tech support staff is not trained well and a lot of them will tell you not to repaste or it will void your warranty, which is absolutely does not do.

For example....if you take your laptop apart to repaste and break a cable while your in there then that isn't covered under warranty. If you repaste your laptop and then a memory module dies, that is covered as long as it wasn't a direct result of the repaste. The only reason I even mention it is because people HAVE shorted out their RAM when LM has wandered over the board.

No, the laptop started crashing lots and lots for weeks... until it finally crashed and didn't turn back on. I tried swapping the CPU but the thing is completely dead. 99% certain the motherboard is dead. I though it was a problem with AWCC or CPU overclock... Maybe bad windows... but no, the mobo just gave up.

You can probably sell the 2080, CPU, and the heat sink for a good amount of money. And the display with the hinge and everything.

There has to be people wanting to buy the “upgrade” from a 2060/2070 or a lower processor to the 9900K, or maybe wanting to go to the 144hz gsync display or replace a broken display.

Even though it’s in pieces, you can probably get a good chunk of cash out of it towards your next (non-AW!!!!!!) system

It was good having you around man!

Good luck with the next one! :) see you in the forums

So no lights or anything? Does the power adapter light turn off when you plug it in?
Have you tried removing the memory, SSD's, GPU, etc before powering on? Just to try and rule out one of them being the issue.

My intention is to sell the laptop entirely without the CPU and SSDs. Either someone can purchase it for spares or to repair (mobo swap is about 500 EUR if you purchase it on AliExpress).

The 9700k it had is a very special CPU because it could do 5.3GHz with ease, this will be sold separately.

I'm replacing this laptop with the ASUS G15 Advantage Edition. It's the only thing that has similar performance that I can currently afford.

Tried everything. Best I got was the power button fading 2 colors after pressing it for a while. But that's it. Really, nothing that can be done.

Also if going 2060 > 2080, they might need your chassis. The 2060 version doesn’t have the side vents cut out if I remember correctly!

My motherboard also died recently but I managed to find the faulty part. There were two exploded mosfets near the DC-in ports. If you look closely there you may find the same failure. There are two on one side and two on the other. I just ordered the parts from aliexpress, desoldered the exploded parts, soldered the new and now its back in fully working condition again.
If you dont have warranty you can also enable it again for around 250 euros for 1 year. No need to sell your laptop for parts.

Frank left for AMD and then we got the G14, high powered AMD laptops and the G15 Advantage Edition. Looks to me that the A51m was his pet project that got beaten by management and beancounters. So sad something this amazing was killed due to Dellness.

    Hey guys,

Since the last update of AWCC Application is out, I'm getting an unclosable prompt of the update when opening AWCC. The thing is I cannot update (and don't want) to this last version of AWCC Application (which is: R281M_WIN_5.3.2.0_A00). Whenever the installation process launches, it eventually displays a prompt which forces me to locate the "correct .msi file for the AWCC application". By default, it goes to this pattern C:\Users\Public\Documents\Downloaded Installations\{DF084855-4DEC-4D1E-BD57-CFEFE3A914F4} but then it says it cannot read the .msi file correctly...
It also happens when trying to install the latest AWCC application downloaded from the Dell website.

    Have a nice day,

    Vanya

Curious, anyone using the slim 240-watt power supplies with their A51m R1? Looking at part number
KJXPP 450-AHHE. The connector size is the same as the originals (7.4mm).

    Hello Gents,

Area-51M, 9900K + 2070 here. No previous problems to date.

Shut it down after emails, went out, came back and no post. AW logo flashing RED. Battery problem I searched that out as.

Went to open her up and reset bios battery, noticed the case was bulging already. Back off, sure enough the battery looked like it was ready to explode.

Removed offending battery, reset bios, she booted. Horray - as I am deployed for business just now.

Two days later, she stopped altogether during gaming. Never o/c GPU, and CPU at 5.0GHz only.

Took an hour to start again.

AW logo now flashing GREEN. Hmm PSU problem? It can run on either PSU, so I doubt that. Running 330W & 240W supplies. (What bulk to travel with).

Takes an hour to start up again. Whenever both supplies are removed (or system gracefully shut down), it takes much button pressing & disconnecting & reconnecting of PSUs to get her to start again... so I'm left with never being able to shut her down now, for fear of no immediate access to the machine.

Dell want T H R E E W E E K S to ship a new battery to me in Australia, so I told them this is my fourth and final Alienware. Not to metion we didn't get any upgradable hardware from them.

A total con job. Which leads me to my next question - what is my next laptop gents? A N Y T H I N G but Dell / Alienware recommendations please... cost is not a consideration.

It can't be less than 17".

    Thanks and regards,

    Me.

    A Clevo X170SM-G. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

It's desktop grade hardware just like the Area 51M and is actually upgradeable past the generation of hardware it was built with.

You could also opt for the Clevo X170KM-G, which has support for both Comet Lake and Rocket Lake CPUs, and comes with an Ampere GPU. This is the newer model of the X170SM-G.

I remember seeing old M17 boards with this issue. Basically Dell used 2x higher rated transistors than Clevo, but half as many chips. While this had the same power loss, the AW boards had half of much area to disperse heat to, and thus the chips were prone to blowing up. I see on the area 51m boards that the power switch transistors are right next to each other, dumping their heat to the same spot on the motherboard.

For those who got the vapor chamber heatsink, could you share what are your idle and gaming temps are before and after installation? I'm currently on the fence about getting it. My computer room is several degrees hotter, usually 3 - 5 degrees celsius, than every other room, mainly due to the amount of heat outputted from 51M and poor air circulation. It gets a little uncomfortable at times, and there's not really much I do about the poor air circulation so I was thinking of ways to reduce the heat coming out of the 51M.

Right now I get about 53 degrees celsius on both the CPU and GPU while web browsing, with undervolt and all. Do you think reducing those temps to 35 - 40 degrees celsius is realistic with the vapor chamber? If it's only something like a 5 degrees celsius reduction, then I probably won't bother. It's pretty pricey at almost $300 USD after shipping, and I could alternatively put that towards a new and (hopefully) cooler system.

Does anyone know if there's a possibility of an Alienware 51m r3 any time soon?

ain't gonna happen. They have a lawsuit going already on the R1 and their new thing is "thin". 51m series line ain't that. It would be an amazing machine if they did though! Imagine a 200w variant 3080 or 3080 super when that comes out plus desktop cpu.
